    Celem artykułu jest ocena potencjału rozwojowego województwa podkarpackiego na tle innych regionów w kraju ze wskazaniem głównych determinant i barier rozwojowych oraz identyfikacja kluczowych branż gospodarczych regionu. Podstawowe pytanie badawcze brzmi: „Które sektory gospodarki Podkarpacia mogą przyczyniać się do jego przewagi konkurencyjnej nad innymi regionami w kraju?”. W artykule wykorzystano wyniki projektu pt. „Badanie potencjałów i specjalizacji województwa podkarpackiego”, który był realizowany przez autorów artykułu w 2013 roku na zlecenie Urzędu Marszałkowskiego Województwa Podkarpackiego. W badaniach zastosowano szeroki wachlarz metod społecznych (w tym wywiady pogłębione i zogniskowane wywiady grupowe z właścicielami firm, przedstawicielami samorządu i organizacji pozarządowych) oraz statystycznych, które pozwoliły zgromadzić bogaty zbiór materiałów empirycznych. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych analiz stwierdzono, że kluczową rolę w regionie odgrywa potencjał gospodarczy i społeczno-demograficzny.
    The purpose of this article is to assess the development potential of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship in relation to other regions of the country (divided into five categories of potential: demographic and social, natural and cultural, economic, spatial and institutional) indicating the main determinants and barriers of development and the identification of the key sectors of the economy of the region. The basic research question is: Which sectors of the economy in Subcarpathian Region may contribute to its competitive advantage over other regions in the country? During the study a broad range of social (including in-depth interviews and focus group interviews with entrepreneurships, representatives of local government and non-governmental organizations) and statistical methods were used, which allowed to accumulate a vast collection of empirical materials. Based on the research, it was found that the economic and socio-demographic potential plays the key role in the region.

    This research deals with the presence and potential of the manufacturing industry in the urban settlements of Łódzkie Voivodeship. Its cognitive goal is to recognise the present share of industry in the economic and functional base of those settlements that, as a result of the system transformation, underwent restructuring and deindustrialisation, and the shrinking of its economic base. The re-development of this base and functions, appropriate to the role of towns and cities in the settlement system, requires new paths and indicating them is the application objective of the research. The work is based on the theory of the economic base of settlements, using statistical and cartographic methods including ‘heat maps’ as well as ‘employment surplus’ and the Amemiya indicator. Studies have shown that both economic and industrial potential are concentrated in the urban settlements of the Łódź agglomeration but decrease especially towards the south and south-east, and that traditional sectors still dominate. Despite intensive deindustrialisation, industry still plays a significant role in the economic base and functions of most small and medium towns of the voivodeship, as well as parts of some large urban settlements. Further economic development, and the role in it of small and medium towns depends on their further industrialisation or re-industrialisation, while of large and medium urban centres – on knowledge-based services.

    W rozwój gospodarki wiedzy silnie wpisują się ośrodki innowacji, które pełnią rolę katalizatora przepływu wiedzy. Celem artykułu jest określenie ich roli w budowie potencjału innowacyjnego województwa pomorskiego. Analizą objęto parki technologiczne, inkubatory technologiczne, centra transferu technologii i pozostałe ośrodki świadczące usługi proinnowacyjne. Opracowanie bazuje na literaturze przedmiotu, informacjach uzyskanych w wywiadach bezpośrednich, raportach PARP i Stowarzyszenia Organizatorów ośrodków Innowacji i Przedsiębiorczości w Polsce, danych Eurostatu i Banku Danych Lokalnych oraz stronach internetowych ośrodków. Metody badawcze wykorzystane w artykule to analiza danych statystycznych i analiza studiów przypadków. Rezultaty badania potwierdziły, że poziom innowacyjności regionu nie jest satysfakcjonujący. System ośrodków innowacji jest stosunkowo dobrze rozwinięty. Świadczą one szerokie spektrum usług proinnowacyjnych, bardzo często w oparciu o współpracę z innymi (IOB). Wśród barier w transferze technologii ośrodki często wymieniają brak zaufania klientów, uwidaczniający się w procesach negocjacyjnych, oraz niską skłonność do podejmowania ryzyka. Poprawa potencjału innowacyjnego regionu wymaga m.in. usieciowienia usług świadczonych przez różne instytucje i systemowego wsparcia ze strony władz regionalnych.
    Innovation centres are involved in the development of knowledge-based economy acting as a catalyst of knowledge transfer. The aim of the article is to assess their role in building innovative potential of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. The analysis includes technology parks, technology incubators, technology transfer centres and other centres providing pro-innovative services. The paper is based on the literature, information submitted in direct interviews, reports of the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development and the Association of Organizers of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centres in Poland, the Eurostat data and the CSO Local Data Bank data and websites of the centres. The research methods used in the paper are analysis of statistical data and case studies analysis. The results confirmed that the level of innovation of the region is not satisfactory. The system of innovation centres is relatively well developed. Said centres provide a wide range of pro-innovative services, very often on the basis of co-operation with other business support institutions. As far as technology transfer barriers are concerned, the centres often point to the lack of trust observable in negotiating processes and low risk taking. Improvement of innovation capacity of the Pomeranian Voivodeship requires, among others, networking of services provided by different institutions and systemic support by regional and local authorities.

    The main aim of the author was to determine the influence range of towns in the light of their economic linkages. The text is part of the author’s larger research project which focuses on the problem of identification and delimitation of functional areas of small and medium-sized towns. An important element of the analyses, apart from their cognitive aspect, is a proposal of an independent tool to measure the phenomenon of economic linkages with the use of data included in the REGON (National Register of Business Entities) database. All the analyses have been conducted on the basis of 38 small and medium-sized towns in the Lodz voivodeship.

    Głównym celem pracy jest analiza wpływu bezpośrednich inwestycji zagranicznych (BIZ) nazagospodarowanie terenów poprzemysłowych w miastach województwa małopolskiego. W artykule wykorzystanoinformacje o bezpośrednich inwestycjach zagranicznych z bazy danych, która powstała jako efektbadań realizowanych w Zakładzie Rozwoju Regionalnego Instytutu Geografii i Gospodarki PrzestrzennejUniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, wykonanych na zlecenie Urzędu Marszałkowskiego WojewództwaMałopolskiego. Dane o obszarach poprzemysłowych pochodzą z badań własnych autora. W artykule wykazano,że bezpośrednie inwestycje zagraniczne (bez przejęć) wyniosły ponad 1,3 mld dol. i przyczyniły siędo zagospodarowania około 140 ha terenów poprzemysłowych. Największe nakłady inwestycyjne poniesionow Krakowskim Obszarze Metropolitalnym oraz w zachodniej części województwa małopolskiego.Inwestorzy zagraniczni w Krakowie realizowali głównie przedsięwzięcia związane z projektami handlowymii usługowymi. W większości pozostałych miast inwestycje zagraniczne koncentrowały się na działalnościprzemysłowej. Wśród głównych czynników przyciągających inwestycje na tereny poprzemysłowe wskazanoduży rynek zbytu oraz atrakcyjny rynek pracy w Krakowskim Obszarze Metropolitalnym i w zachodniejczęści województwa, a także dobrą dostępność transportową i politykę proinwestycyjną. Zagospodarowanieterenów poprzemysłowych przyczynia się przede wszystkim do: powstania nowych miejsc pracy, wzrostudochodów z podatków, poprawy stanu środowiska przyrodniczego i zmiany wizerunku miast.
    The main goal of the paper is to analyse the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the redevelopment of post-industrial areas in the cities of Małopolska Voivodeship. This article uses information about foreign direct investment from the database, which is a result of research conducted at the Department of Regional Development in the Institute of Geography and Spatial Management of the Jagiellonian University, commissioned by the Marshal Office of the Małopolska Voivodeship. The data on the post-industrial areas come from the author’s own research. This article shows that the foreign direct investment (excluding acquisitions) amounted to more than 1.3 billion USD and has contributed to the development of about 140 hectares of post-industrial areas. The biggest investments occurred in the Cracow Metropolitan Area and the western part of the Małopolska Voivodeship. Foreign investors engaged in retail trade and services mainly in Cracow. In most other cities, foreign investments focused on industrial activities. Among the main factors contributing to investments in post-industrial areas has identified large market size and attractive labor market in Cracow Metropolitan Area and in the western part of the region, and good transport accessibility and pro-investment policy. Redevelopment of post-industrial areas is the primary contributor to the creation of new work places, increased tax revenues, improvement in the environment and change in the image of cities.
