Opis:
The problem of papal primacy is one the most fragile issues between Catholics and Protestants. The author of the article discusses the possibility of a separation of the primacy of jurisdiction from the primacy of teaching. The method of reasoning follows the one of St. Thomas: first the arguments pro are given, and later the arguments contra. The arguments are from Catholic theology, Lutheran theology and philosophy. The answer is given from Ecumenical Perspective.

Opis:
This article includes a deepened presentation and a commentary on some elements of the procedure of the election of the Pope, which underline the unity of the believers’ community. It is a unity in the sense of a participation of the whole Church in the election process, and secondly in that a special strengthening of the Pope to fulfill the ministry of unity of the Christ’s Church is accomplished by his election. The elements in question are as follows: entrusting of the election of the Bishop of the Church of Rome to the Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church, a majority of votes necessary for a valid election of the bishop of Rome, and a spiritual dimension of a conclave, as well as a calling directed to all the Faithful to participate in this special act.

Pope John Paul II in his oral and written teaching emphasised that Jesus Christ is the Redeemer of every human being and the same time underlined the value and dignity of every person, as well as his/her calling. In the 21st century, it is still worth recollecting the depth of teaching of John Paul II, especially the truth about the human being and his/her vocation through the mystery of the Redeemer. Therefore, this article will present some points from the documents written by Pope John Paul II, which refer to the Christian vocation of a lay man.

Resignation of the Pope Benedict XVI announced on 11ht Feb. 2013 was for many a huge astonishment, because in the history of the Church one can find not so many decisions like this one, and from the last one passed more than 600 years. For canonists the act is a novelty only de facto but not de iure, because the article about resignation of the pope from his office has existed in the canonical legal order since 1299. The paper includes the interpretation of can. 332 § 2 of the Code of Canon Law 1983 that regulates resignation of the Roman Pontiff from His Office. There are presented and analyzed historical circumstances of such norm, causes of such step, conditions required for validity of resignation (freedom of decision and proper announcement), constitutive character of such resignation and its irrevocability and the status of pope-emeritus in the Church.

During his many journeys and speeches in his teaching, John Paul II proved that spiritual ecumenism is a sine qua non for all ecumenical activity. He is the „soul” of all ecumenism. Spiritual ecumenism, thanks to conversion of the heart, holiness of life, individual and community prayer for unity, becomes a clear criterion for the existence of a genuinely Christian ecumenical attitude.

Moving along scholastic methodology, the paper progress along three  stages, exploring a negative  statement (videtur quod non),  justifying a positive assertion (sed contra), to formulate a conclusion (ergo). Through this methodology the paper argues that Pope John Paul II was the defender of Christianity. This methodology allows thorough study of the highlights of the pontificate of this Great Pope and on the basis of counter-points to bring out a more clear answer to the research question.

The Twentieth Century provided the religious and irreligious alike with tremendous challenges in regards to belief. Evil and carnage were pervasive and the Church was in decline. In that cultural moment rose an interpreter of that challenge who theodicy was clear and efficient in answering the complex challenge of evil in the modern world. John Paul II, more than almost any other figure of the age, addressed the vexing issue of evil in the modern world. In the corpus of his writing mankind comes to know evil through an act of memory, remembering from where evil sprang, and what evil has done in man to separate him from his creator. And mankind comes to terms with identity of evil as seen and experienced through the act of suffering. Through processing memory, and examining identity, mankind can discover how Jesus Christ’s work on Calvary places us at the threshold of victory.

Opis:
Papież Franciszek niejednokrotnie kieruje do katolików wezwanie do nawrócenia. Dokonuje on jednak amplifikacji samego pojęcia „nawrócenie”, wyznaczając nowe perspektywy badawcze, do których należy m.in. problem „nawrócenia ekologicznego” oraz podejście do kwestii nawrócenia konfesyjnego. Papież dokonuje również amplifikacji modelu nawrócenia, modyfikując go i nadając mu jednowektorowy kierunek. Warto zatem dokonać namysłu, przed jakimi wyzwaniami — wobec papieskiego wołania o nawrócenie — staje współczesna refleksja teologiczna oraz pastoralna działalność Kościoła.
Pope Francis repeatedly calls Catholics to conversion. However, he amplifies the very concept of “conversion” outlines new research perspectives, which include, among others, the problem of “ecological conversion” and the approach to the question of confessional conversion. The Pope also amplifies the model of conversion, modifying it and giving it a single-vector direction. It is therefore worth reflecting on the challenges that contemporary theological reflection and the Church’s pastoral activity are facing in the face of the papal call for conversion.

“Particular Churches, in which and from which, the one and only Catholic Church exists, are principally dioceses. Unless the contrary is clear, the following are equivalent to a diocese: a territorial prelature, a territorial abbacy, a vicariate apostolic, a prefecture apostolic and a permanently established apostolic administration” (canon 368 of the Code of Canon Law). In December 2016, the Bishop of Tarnów convened the 5th Synod of the Diocese of Tarnów. The main purpose of a Synod – in the opinion of the Bishop of Tarnów – was to demonstrate the spiritual, pastoral and material heritage of the Christ’s Church in the Diocese of Tarnów; to revive faith, hope and love in the personal and community relationship with Christ in the Church; and to indicate new pastoral ways in the changeability of the world towards the unchangeability of Christ. Taking this into consideration the article analyzes the following issues: the definition of a synod; the purpose of a synod; convocation of and presiding over a diocesan synod; the preparation of a synod; Pope Francis about synodality, and finally “The Church is our neighbour” – a synod as an expression of love for the Church.

Pope John Pauls II is the most famous person in Polish history. He has been acclaimed as one of the most infl uential leaders of the 20th century. It is widely accepted that he was important in ending communism in Poland and eventually all of Europe. He also helped Poland to enter European Union. After his death the Church in Poland feels like an orphan, but sees chances in the heritage, which John Paul II left for the Church in his own Homeland.

The aim of this article is to present the reactions of the Polish and German press to the death of Pope John Paul II, compare and analyze them. This approach allows to understand the differences between Polish and German perception of religion, particularly Christianity and the Catholic Church. Poland and Germany have different religious traditions, a different relationship to the church and to church dogma, rituals and piety. This may be observed as the different ways of looking at the death of Pope John Paul II in Polish and German newspapers.Probably these perceptual differences ensued from the paternal figure of the John Paul II and special emotional Polish attitude to the deceased Polish Pope.
