The article is an analysis of the cathegory of Presence in the context of religion. The scope is to show the phenominon of presence as a fundamental cathegory in the aspect of religious existence. Article mentions definitions of presense known in both classical and modern philosophy. Especially interesting for the work is the concept of God’s presence through: the word, the Providence, the world and the mystical experience. The matter of God’s presence is complemented by analisys of God’s secrecy often discussed in the religious literature, especially in the theologhy of spirituality. The text is featuring reciprocal correlation, dialectics of both terms and the consequences for the spiritual life. There are mentioned antropological conditions of the posibility for religious relationship, especailly relationship in which the essence is the presence – that are: capax Dei (man’s ability (and need) to relate to the Divine) and quaerere Deum (man’s ability (and need) to seak for Divine).

This paper deals with the problem of alleged conflict between the theological idea of the creation of man by God and the scientific theories that explain the origin of the human body referring to the process of evolution. It is argued that there is no contradiction between these two domains and that there is no real conflict between the idea of creation and the theory of evolution. At first, the conception of evolution is introduced. Afterwards, the evolutionary creationism is presented as the theological doctrine which claims that God created man, using for this purpose mechanisms of evolution. It is argued that the Biblical account of creation must not be understood literally and that during the lecture of this account one should respect the interpretative principle of St. Augustine concerning metaphorical sense of some Biblical texts. Finally, a “method” of explaining of the emergence of the human body by a direct action of God (“God of the gaps”) is criticized.

This article deals with the issue of the immutability of God in Himself. What is meant by “immutability” and why God should (or must) be immutable? Doesn’t He –  whom Christians preach –  contradict His immutability by showing interest in man? These questions, taken by a number of philosophers and theologians have appeared more or less frequently throughout history. The article is devoted to the immutability of God as one and the Holy Trinity on the grounds of Christianity. The article quotes the thoughts of representatives from the Church in the West and in the East – Tertullian and Origen. This thought formed in an era when Trinitarian heresy flourished and had a significant impact on the further development of theological reflection. Then the theological and philosophical position of Thomas Aquinas is taken into account as one who in his investigations on the nature of God used the components of ancient Greek philosophy.

And yet, man cannot exist in an ideological or religious vacuum. This article reflects on the anthropological roots of the negation and affirmation of God and religion. The truth about religion is inextricably linked to the truth about man, and the question of perceiving man as a religious being is one of the important issues of philosophical anthropology.

Istnieje w myśleniu religijnym punkt szczególnie krytyczny, gdy ktoś z jednej strony uważa, że świat może i powinien być analizowany wyłącznie środkami naturalistycznej nauki, a z drugiej strony dostrzega w nim obecność Boga, którego nie sposób nimi ująć. W jaki sposób można pogodzić determinizm naukowego obrazu świata oraz wiarę, że jest w nim obecny Bóg? W artykule analizuję stanowiska z dwu różnych dziedzin, które starają się stawić czoła temu problemowi. Tezy mistyczne z Traktatu logiczno-filozoficznego Ludwiga Wittgensteina zestawiam z rozważaniami niemieckiego teologa Karla Rahnera. Idea, jaką można odnaleźć u obu myślicieli, jest następująca: działalność Boga, sama w sobie nadprzyrodzona, w świecie dokonuje się zawsze środkami przyrodzonymi. W tekście wskazuję na możliwe konsekwencje powyższego stanowiska oraz perspektywy, jakie ono ze sobą niesie.
It is an especially critical moment in religious thinking when someone claims that the world can and should be analyzed solely in terms of naturalist science, and at the same time believes in the existence of God who cannot be expressed in such terms. How can the determinism of the scientific image of the world be reconciled with the religious belief in the presence of God in such a world? In my paper I present views from two different domains which try to face that problem. On the one hand, there is Ludwig Wittgenstein with his mystical theses in Tractatus logico-philosophicus and, on the other, there is the german theologian Karl Rahner. The idea that can be found in their writings is that God’s actions in the world, supernatural in themselves, are always carried out by natural means. I discuss what follows from this and what differences there are between the thinkers.

According to a Russian philosopher Siemion Frank, there is no such thing as “truth” in science without making a pre‑assumption about the existence of some kind absolute, and in Frank’s eyes “absolute” always equals “God”. That is why you cannot be an atheist and scientist at the same time. The article is an attempt to show that it is not a proper notion of what science is or should be because: 1) science does not need any idea of truth (maybe philosophy of science does), 2) a consistent notion of truth can be formulated without any notion of absolute, 3) “absolute” not always equals “God”, or even “transcendence”.

The evolution of his views on the world of nature led Miłosz to spiritual transformation, which connected awereness the pain of existence with largeness and beauty of the universe. Conscious, that behind the colour of nature curtain take place continuous performance of tortures and sufferings, he treated haiku of japanese poet as his own, which he was asked to translate: „we walk above hell, gazing at flowers”. One more antidote on coping with awareness of evil, which exists in nature was warning, that human measures should not be used in assessment of world of plants and animals. Present in Miłosz world view conviction about beautiful world and permeated with evil caused, that Nobel prize winner tried to strengthen life with all his works. The author of Orpheus and Eurydice in disguise of mythical god passed on implicite, certain characteristic feature of his own creative power. Namely, the poet always stays on the side of existence, tries to see the happiness of life in surrounding tastes, smells, pictures. Opportunity to polemics, which refer to evil, which exists in our world was meeting organized 29.09.1994 by foundation ,,Sign” in which took participation inter alia Czesław Miłosz. During one of this meetings, participants of discussion agreed, that philosophy is helpless in relation to the problem of evil. Touch of evil is or absurdity or secrecy. The secrecy, which bothered Miłosz through all his life, and in front of which he stood helpless.

Edith Stein was born in a traditional religious Jewish family. In her youth, she stopped praying and lost her faith in God. She was, however, very faithful in searching for the truth, which had become her life's passion. First, the article presents various definitions of truth. Then it deals with phenomenological methods of discovering the truth about man, which were characteristic of Edith Stein. Finally, it shows her discovery of the God of Love, who pulled her towards mystical union in the spirituality of Carmel. St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) died in the concentration camp at Auschwitz experiencing the mystery of the Cross of Christ and sacrificing herself for her nation.

As the fifth book of the Pentateuch, Deuteronomy depicts a panoramic synthesis of the entire history of Israel. Consequently, its message is very important for Old Testament theology. Deuteronomy had its origin as a book of God’s Law, communicated to the Israelites by Moses, giving them in a certain way the best guidance possible through the course of their history. The Book of Deuteronomy raises important issues in the life and faith of the Israelites just as they prepare to enter the land of promise. The most important of them is the relationship between God and Israel; that direct connection of Israel’s obedience to the divine law that should be treated as ‘rule of life’ in the Promised Land. Moses’ first address to Israel (Deut 1:1–4:43) allows us to capture generally the essential elements that influence both positively and negatively on forming the vital relationship with God: the only One who can provide for every person a happy life – lived to the full.

Caring for the person and the human family is one of the most important tasks for the State and the Church. In contrast to the activities of the civil society, the work of the Church in this area is called a specific work, because it requires the use of so-called poor means, i.e. peaceful means. From the very beginning, the teaching of the Church has stood and stands on the ground of Christian personalism. The Church looks at marriage and family in the same spirit. It views the family as the basic and irreplaceable community. It is the family that offers the most effective tools for the humanization and personalization of society. Any social and family policy should serve this end. The Church should follow a similar policy. However, the pastoral concern of the Church is not limited only to Christian families. It should manifest itself in relation to all families and especially those who face difficult or abnormal situations.

Nature was the central idea on which Michael Sendivogius based his alchemico-philosophical system. Therefore, the aim of this article is to show what the Polish alchemist understood as Nature and what was its function in the world according to him. Sendivogius believed that the material world originated from the will of the good God. However, the act of divine creation was reduced to the moment of its coming into being through the creation of the matter (ex nihilo) and general organization of its universum. Nature, on the other hand, is responsible for the present form of the material world. For Sendivogius, Nature is an element with which the world has been enriched by the will of God, and which is responsible for its permanent creation. According to our alchemist, the world is constantly being created and transformed, and Nature is its creative principle. This article explains how Nature creates this world and particular beings existing in it. Furthermore, it discusses the problem of the nature of Nature itself. Sendivogius considered Nature to be not only a creative principle but also a kind of law determining interactions of beings which ensured their unity and harmony. Nature is not everlasting but created in the same way as the world. Therefore, the article presents also what the Alchemist thought about the Nature’s relation to its Creator, that is to God.

Franz Kafka’s life and work have been the subject of many research papers. While the interpreters of his works knew that he was a Jew, they did not always fully realize the significance of this fact. Some would treat this issue as a marginal one, failing to see that it was the pivot of his existence and work. Kafka kept wandering about in search of his own identity. As a lost agnostic who “lapsed” from the hand of God, lived without Him in the darkness of atheism and tried to discern His light, Franz Kafka was not really dependent on any specific religious denomination. However, Judaism is so strongly related to the Mosaic revelation – like Christianity is related to Christ’s Revelation – that it cannot be here omitted or forgotten, as this would result in some misunderstandings. In a sense it is impossible to separate the fact of being Jewish from the religion. Kafka’s life, as well as his writing, resulted from his continual reference to the Absolute. There are two worlds far removed from each other: the world of spirit and the world of man. Kafka believed that there is a world of that which is spiritual, absolute, pure, true, unchanging and indestructible – the world devoid of sin, but full of perfection; therefore, there exists that which man tends to encapsulate in the concept of God.
