As the Church follows the call of John Paul II for a New Evangelization, she must consider how the individual person actually comes to belief. Bl. John Henry Newman, soon to be canonized, addressed this question in An Essay in Aid of A Grammar of Assent. According to Newman, religious belief is not just a logical acceptance of intellectual propositions. It is a commitment of the whole person to God, according to the image of God formed in the person’s imagination. (The imagination is that faculty possessed by every human person, which coordinates real life experiences and allows the person to comprehend the real world around him).It is by intentionally employing the imagination, rather than demonstrative logic, that the human person arrives at a belief that is well-grounded, neither cold nor fanatical. Accordingly, our evangelical activity, while never neglecting the truth of the Gospel, should seek to engage the senses and feelings of the human person and not merely the intellect.

Postmodernism is, in many respects, a term that has lost most of its cultural and academic cachet. This does not, however, mean that the themes, context, and conditions to which it referred are no longer relevant. In this essay, I will briefly review the latest reports which show a decreasing interest in organized religion, and interpret these results as symptomatic of a larger change in the state of knowledge. To this end, I will examine Jean‑François Lyotard’s analysis of the loss of metanarratives as a way of understanding the implicit rules of the dialogue that occurs between the theist and the atheist or agnostic. Next, I will note the unique capacity of beauty to transcend the diverse language games played by both sides of the conversation. I will conclude by contending that this characteristic of beauty offers a kind of common ground which can be built upon, fostering further dialogue as well as an opportunity for evangelization.

Dla Franciszka ewangelizacja jest kluczem do reformy Kościoła. Wierni świeccy zaś są ważnym i niemożliwym do zastąpienia  podmiotem tego dzieła. Niniejsze opracowanie ukazuje wybrane inspiracje papieża odnoszące się do udziału laikatu we współczesnej ewangelizacji. W pierwszej części artykułu wskazano na eklezjologię papieża, która stoi u podstaw jego myśli dotyczącej misyjnego posłannictwa wiernych świeckich. Przedstawiono tu także konkretne przestrzenie ewangelizacji, w których Franciszek postrzega świeckich jako aktywne podmioty. Następnie omówiono dwa najbardziej oryginalne dla Franciszka wezwania, jak przestroga przed klerykalizmem oraz zachęta do realizacji synodalności Kościoła. W końcu ukazano nauczanie Franciszka w perspektywie realizacji prorockiej funkcji Kościoła. Skoncentrowano się tu na teologicznym i pastoralnym odczytaniu ustanowionej przez papieża posługi  katechisty. Przeprowadzone analizy pozwoliły stwierdzić, że nauczanie Franciszka, dotyczące udziału świeckich w ewangelizacji, posiada wiele nowych akcentów. W pojmowaniu ewangelizacji obecny papież zachowuje jednak hermeneutykę ciągłości z nauką Soboru Watykańskiego II. Wezwania Franciszka mogą zdynamizować współczesną ewangelizację i przyczynić się do odnowy  Kościoła.
For Francis, evangelization is the key to reforming the Church. The lay faithful, on the other hand, are an important and irreplaceable subject of this work. This study presents the Pope’s selected inspirations regarding the participation of the laity in contemporary evangelization. The first part, of the article points to the Pope’s ecclesiology, which underpins his thoughts concerning the  missionary assignment of the lay faithful. It also presents specific areas of evangelization in which Francis sees the laity as active  subjects. Next, two of Francis’ original exhortations are discussed, namely, his warning against clericalism and an encouragement to implement the synodality of the Church. Finally, the teachings of Francis are presented in the perspective of fulfilling the Church’s prophetic function. The focus here is on the theological and pastoral reading of the catechist’s ministry established by the Pope. The analyzes showed that Francis’ teaching on the participation of the laity in evangelization has many new accents. However, when understanding evangelization, the present pope maintains a hermeneutic continuity with the teachings of the Vatican Council. Francis’ invocations can stimulate contemporary evangelization and contribute to the Church’s renewal.

Nowa ewangelizacja jest narzędziem potrzebnym do głoszenia Ewangelii Jezusa Chrystusa, tej samej, lecz nowej w zapale, metodzie oraz środkach. Idee Szkoły Ewangelizacji Świętego Andrzeja, które zostały ukazane, są praktyczną odpowiedzią na to wezwanie. Na treść artykułu składa się szczegółowa analiza całej wizji, metodologii oraz strategii Programu pastoralnego Szkoły Ewangelizacji. Uwzględniono jego rolę i troskę o podejmowanie wyzwań nowej ewangelizacji. Ukazano syntezę myśli metod, a także dokładny opis programu formacji. Nie bez podstaw wydaje się być nadzieja, że podjęte badania przyczynią się do pogłębienia dotychczasowej wiedzy, co mogłoby przyczynić się do wykorzystania powyżej przedstawionego programu do formacji nowych ewangelizatorów dla nowej ewangelizacji.
The new evangelization is an instrument needed to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the same but new in zeal, method and means. The ideas of the School of St. Andrew’s Evangelization, which have been presented, are a practical response to this call. The article consists of a detailed analysis of the whole vision, methodology and strategy of the pastoral program of the School of Evangelization. It is role and concern for taking up the challenges of the new evangelization has been taken into account. A synthesis of the thoughts of the methods was presented, as well as a detailed description of the formation program. The hope that the research undertaken will contribute to a deepening of the existing knowledge, which could contribute to the use of the above mentioned program, to the formation of new evangelizers for the new evangelization, is not without foundation.

Tekst dotyczy inspiracji papieża Franciszka dla posługi słowa. Metodą jakościowej analizy tekstów jego dokumentów i wywiadów z nim zostały wydobyte następujące inspiracje: prymat przepowiadania w kluczu misyjnym; przepowiadanie zrodzone z doświadczenia i przeżywania wiary; przepowiadanie zrodzone z towarzyszenia ludziom; głoszenie z radością; potwierdzenie znaczenia homilii; dowartościowanie przygotowania homilii i kazań. Wymienione inspiracje Franciszka dla posługi słowa nie są nowe, stanowią raczej rozwinięcie nauczania Soboru Watykańskiego II i posoborowych papieży, a zwłaszcza Pawła VI. Mają one znaczenie dla Kościoła działającego na początku XXI wieku w środowisku zsekularyzowanym.
This paper deals with Pope Francis’ inspirations for the ministry of the word. Through a qualitative analysis of the texts of his documents and interviews with him, the following inspirations were extracted: the primacy of preaching in a missionary key; preaching born of the experience; preaching born of accompanying people; preaching with joy; reaffirmation of the importance of homilies; the appreciation of the preparation of homilies and sermons. These inspirations of Francis for the ministry of the word are not new, but rather an extension of the teaching of Vatican II and the post-conciliar popes, especially Paul VI. They are relevant for a Church operating in the early 21st century in a secularized environment.

The roots that raised Elvis Presley to become the man that he is in history, are not found in rock’n’roll but they go much deeper. They are found in the Gospel, in what Joe Moscheo defined as “the Gospel side of Elvis”. This paper highlights the gospel music of Elvis Presley and its vast impact on American society and religion. One of the aims of this article is to underline the impact that sacred music had over Presley’s artistical work and how Elvis and his Southern spirituality influenced the history of Christian music. One more important aspect of this paper argues the worldwide role Presley had as an evangelist of the Gospel, and how he influenced Christian identity and its values among Americans. This paper tried to answer to Mark Duffet’s question: “If star musicians are positioned as centers of attention, what happens when they use their privileged position in the spotlight to offer a ‘spiritual’ message?”. As a result, this paper offers original contents of Elvis Presley’s faith and spirituality and is intended as a starting point for future studies. Surprisingly, few researchers have evaluated the effect the singer had on evangelization and gospel music development. Previous studies have mostly paid attention to the role that Elvis played on the Rock’n’Roll scene and the iconic legend created around him. They forget that the Gospel is a key part of Presley’s life and music.

W Kościele istnieje ciągła potrzeba głoszenia Ewangelii młodym. Kościół pragnie dobrze rozeznać i zidentyfikować najbardziej skuteczne sposoby głoszenia Dobrej Nowiny kolejnym pokoleniom. Lekcja religii może stać się miejscem głoszenia Dobrej Nowiny. Środowisko szkolne ewangelizatorzy mogą ożywić przez takie treści, takie środki, taką dynamikę, które natchnione są Duchem Bożym. Od starożytności w Kościele są obecne różne modele ewangelizacji. Ewangelizacja ta zawsze czerpała ze słowa Bożego. Współczesny ewangelizator powinien najpierw rozeznać sytuację, w której przychodzi mu zwiastować słowo Boże i posłużyć się najbardziej odpowiednią strategią ewangelizacji. Te strategie są możliwe do wykorzystania w katechezie. Dziś katecheza korzysta z wielu metod ewangelizacji. Często spotyka się w niej metody wypracowane w Szkole Nowej Ewangelizacji. To staje się szansą dotarcia z orędziem Ewangelii do nowych pokoleń i rozbudzenia w nich radości wiary.
There is a constant need to preach the Gospel to young people in the Church. The Church wants to realize and identify the most effective ways to proclaim the Good News to the next generations. The lesson of religious education can become a place to preach the Good News. Evangelizers can revitalize the school environment through such content, such methods and such dynamics that are inspired by the Spirit of God. Various models of evangelization have been present in the Church since ancient times. This evangelization has always derived from the Word of God. The contemporary evangelist should first realize the situation in which he announces the Word of God and later should use the most appropriate strategy of evangelization. These strategies may be used during catechesis / religious education. Nowadays, it uses many methods of evangelization. One may often encounter the methods developed at the School of New Evangelization. This becomes an opportunity to deliver the message of the Gospel to the new generations and to awaken the joy of faith in them.

This article discusses the document Meeting Jesus, presented by the Italian Episcopal Commission. In seeking to give guide-lines for the proclamation and catechesis of the faith in Italy it becomes one of the most important documents in recent years that deal with the new evangelization that assists the whole Church in the announcing of the Gospel and the journey of faith.The document highlights certain homogeneity in reading the cultural, social, ecclesial and pastoral situation in which the pro-cesses of formation and education are realized. This helps the development of the “catechetical needs” and the specific paths of di-ocesan and national guidelines. It also reveals the possibility of a comparison at the inter-diocesan level between formators and a mutual support in the evaluation of projects and activity. To realize the training of formators and of members of the diocesan teams “in the wise work of coordinating and leading” it is important to work on the same lines proposed by the Guidelines.

This article discusses the current situation of the Church resulting from the epidemic threat of the coronavirus. It indicates how we can teach religious education online, using particular platforms and educational websites, as well as instant messengers and other internet services, to make them tools of catechesis and evangelization. The author emphasizes the spiritual contact of the faithful who, through the media, can participate in Holy Masses and receive the Spiritual Communion. She underlines the role of the proper use of mass media in the work of catechesis and evangelization. The author encourages people responsible for catechesis to be creative in the remote proclamation of the redemptive message, and to use all the available didactic resources and methods.

Ze względu na wieloaspektowość personalistycznej koncepcji Stefana Wyszyńskiego niniejszy artykuł jest skoncentrowany na chrześcijańskiej wizji kultury. W tym kontekście zwrócono uwagę na to, w jakim zakresie personalizm może stanowić podstawę do kształtowania kultury, zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do współczesnej rzeczywistości postmodernistycznej. Przeprowadzona analiza wizji kultury usytułowuje ją w odniesieniu do realiów życia chrześcijańskiego. W tym sensie, twórczą aktywność na rzecz kultury należy widzieć w kontekście realizacji pełni osobowości człowieka nie tylko w wymiarze doczesnym, ale także nadprzyrodzonym. Umożliwia to włączenie się osoby ludzkiej w nurt zachodzących przemian cywilizacyjno-kulturowych, ale równeż pozwala człowiekowi odkryć właściwe miejsce w dynamicznie zmieniających się realiach współczesnego świata.
Due to the multi-faceted nature of Stefan Wyszyński’s personalistic concept, this article focuses on the Christian vision of culture. In this context, attention was drawn to how personalism can constitute the basis for shaping culture, especially to contemporary (post-) modern reality. The conducted analysis of the vision of culture places it to the facts of the Christian life. In this sense, creative activity for culture should be seen in the context of realizing the fullness of the human personality not only in the temporal dimension but also in the supernatural. It allows the human person to join the current of civilization and cultural changes and enable a person to discover the right place in the dynamically changing realities of the modern world.

Artykuł, odwołując się do badań socjologicznych z ostatnich kilku lat, charakteryzuje polską młodzież pod względem przyjmowanych wartości społecznych, etycznych i religijnych, by ukazać ważne konsekwencje dla nauczania religii w Polsce. 25 lat od momentu, kiedy lekcje religii na nowo pojawiły się w polskich szkołach, zachęca do różnych podsumowań, wyciągania wniosków i kreślenia perspektyw. Tekst podkreśla stojącą przed Kościołem szansę, jaką w udzielaniu młodym wsparcia w podejmowanym wysiłku wzrostu duchowego daje szkolna katecheza. W sytuacji globalnych przemian, które mają wpływ na myślenie i sposób postępowania młodzieży, dużą wagę należy przypisać działaniom wychowawczym, które będą wyzwalać osobiste doświadczanie miłości Boga. Kluczowe dla przyszłości polskiego Kościoła wydają się działania ewangelizacyjne, prowadzone w ramach szkolnej i pozaszkolnej pracy z dziećmi i młodzieżą w celu podtrzymywania i kultywowania przekonań religijnych i zwyczajów oraz umożliwiania dojrzewania wiary młodego pokolenia.
It is 25 years since when religious education was reestablished in Polish public and private schools. This anniversary encourages for various summaries, drawing conclusions and drafting perspectives. Referring to sociological research of the past few years, the article depicts Polish youth in terms of acquired social, ethical and religious values in order to show important implications for the transmission of religiosity in Poland. The text emphasizes the opportunities the Church is offered by school religious instruction (becoming also catechesis) in providing the youth support for spiritual growth. In case of global changes affecting the youth style of living, greater importance should be attributed to educational activities that will trigger personal experience of God’s love. The evangelization activities carried out within the framework of school education and extracurricular work with children and young people seem to be key factor for the future of the Polish Church as a community that is able to sustain and cultivate religious beliefs and customs allowing thus the maturation of the young generation faith.

Ewangelizacja była znana na przestrzeni wieków. Pierwsze posyłanie uczniów ma  znamiona głoszenia dobrej nowiny. Liczne dokumenty Kościoła usiłowały zdefiniować dzieło ewangelizacji i  nadać mu  nowe znaczenie. Pierwszym dokumentem jest dekret o  działalności misyjnej Kościoła ad  gentes Soboru Watykańskiego II, w którym czytamy, że Chrystus został posłany, „aby ukazywać miłość Bożą i zaszczepiać ją wszystkim ludziom i narodom”81. Misja ad gentes ma na uwadze tych, którzy nie słyszeli o Chrystusie. Posoborowe nauczanie Kościoła coraz częściej wskazuje, że każdy ochrzczony jest wezwany do głoszenia dobrej nowiny. Nowa ewangelizacja to głoszenie orędzia zbawienia na nowe sposoby, to wychodzenie ku  współczesnym z  nowymi formami i  środkami. Jednak najskuteczniejsze jest osobiste świadectwo. Niniejszy artykuł ukazuje zarys, pojęcia i próbę zdefiniowania nowej ewangelizacji na tle dostępnych opracowań, zwrócenie uwagi na dokumenty Kościoła, w których temat nowej ewangelizacji poruszany jest w  sposób wieloaspektowy. Następnie wzięci są pod uwagę adresaci Dobrej Nowiny.
Evangelization was known over centuries and well know in  the history. First sending off the apostles, has characteristics of the proclamation of the Good News. Several Church’s documents tried to  define the process of  evangelization and to give it a new meaning. The first document is the Decree ad gentes on the mission activity of the Church of the Second Vatican Council, in which we read, that Christ was sent “to reveal and to communicate the love of God to all men and nations”82. The mission ad gentes is concerned about those who never heard about Christ. Postsynodal Magisterium of the Church more often indicates that every baptised person is called to proclaim the Good News. The new evangelization means proclamation of the salvation in new way, it means to go out to modern man with modern forms and means of communication. Yet the most effective is one’s personal experience. This article shows an outline, concepts and attempts to define new evangelization in the light of  the available materials, with particular attention to  the Church’s documents which treat new evangelization in different perspectives. Then taken into account are the recipients of the Good News.

Opis:
The article discusses the missionary option as indicated by Pope Francis in his first apostolic exhortation. This challenging option can be lived fully only through a total commitment of all church structures. That is why it is interesting to reflect how one of the parish structures, namely the pastoral council, can contribute – according to its competences – to put into practice what has been enunciated in Evangelii gaudium.A particular contribution of the parish pastoral council consists primarily in the development of an adequate parish pastoral plan, which would have as its main goal to educate the parish as a missionary community, responsible for the transmission of the Christian faith in today’s world. The article also features some directions from the Papal document which must be taken into account and some practical suggestions which aid in reaching the delineated goals. A commitment of the parish pastoral council to fulfil this missionary choice enables this structure to see its role as oriented “to promote conformity of the life and actions of the People of God with the Gospel”.

This article explores the vital role and practice of hospitality and welcoming in parish ministry within a missionary setting. Despite its importance, hospitality is often poorly executed, particularly towards newcomers to the church. Visitors who enter a parish church may be ignored, no one speaks to them and their presence may even go completely unnoticed. This article examines the biblical and traditional understanding of hospitality as well as strategies employed by mission-minded and thriving churches to effectively practice it. Through theological reflection, we uncover overlooked and essential aspects of this ministry. Parish leaders and volunteers will find many practical and innovative ways to implement welcoming and hospitality in their parishes in an evangelical and missionary way.
Artykuł ten bada istotną rolę i praktykę przyjmowania ludzi i gościnności w duszpasterstwie parafialnym w środowisku misyjnym. Pomimo swojego znaczenia, gościnność jest często źle realizowana, szczególnie w stosunku do nowoprzybyłych do kościoła. Osoby wchodzące do kościoła parafialnego mogą zostać zignorowane, nikt z nimi nie rozmawia, a ich obecność może nawet pozostać niezauważona. W tym artykule analizujemy biblijne i tradycyjne rozumienie gościnności, a także strategie stosowane przez prosperujące wspólnoty kościelne nastawione na misję. W refleksji teologicznej odkrywa się przeoczone i istotne aspekty tej posługi. Liderzy parafii i wolontariusze znajdą wiele praktycznych i innowacyjnych sposobów wdrażania powitania ludzi i gościnności w swoich parafiach w duchu misyjnym.
