Opis:
In his chief work Person and act concerning the transcendent virtue of natural ethical norms, the author, Cardinal Karol Wojtyła, stresses the autonomous decision of the single person and thereby his own responsibility. This results in a deepened comprehension of what freedom of the human being really means. Only the conception of a balance between rights and duties of man will protect our own freedom and dignity. In Cardinal Wojtyła´s philosophy we can implicitly find the current answer to the problem of equality, which can´t be solved without the transcendent outlook. The article is limited to three parts: 1. Sources of Karol Wojtyła´s philosophy; 2. The role of conscience as legislator for the person; 3. Equality of rights and duties as moral imperative of human acts. We can describe Karol Wojtyła´s thinking as an emphasizing on the transcendent perspective as well as an equal estimation of responsibility compared to rights and liberties. Karol Wojtyła´s philosophy gives us a current answer to present challenges also concerning the problem of equality, which can´t be solved without transcendent outlook.

Opis:
It seems unusual even in some Catholic circles to speak of the philosophy of dialogue in the Catholic context. Nevertheless, the purpose of this article is to show that the dialogical way of thought not only has a Catholic originator – Ferdinand Ebner – but also a fixed place in the heart of Catholic thinking. We identify dialogical thinking here neither as an affiliation to a specific group of thinkers, nor as directly discussing the subject of dialogue/communication, but rather whether such thought conforms to the dialogical principle. We present this principle on the basis of the „fundamental thought” found in Ebner’s, The Word and the Spiritual Realities and we explain it further on the basis of his „word” concept. However, the rudiments of dialogical thinking can be found even before the „dialogical turn”. Plato and Augustine are the earliest, classical examples, and we present as its later forerunners Hamann, Baader, Humboldt, Feuerbach and Kierkegaard. As an illustration of the mysterious impact of the dialogical principle on Catholic thought we mention a few such authors who make direct reference to Ebner: Romano Guardini, Gabriel Marcel (together with Emmanuel Mounier), and the theologians Karl Rahner and Hans Urs von Balthasar. The main concern is not to look for Ebner’s impact on these thinkers, but to see the presence of the dialogical principle in their writings. Furthermore, we try to show the influence of the dialogical principle on the documents of Vatican II (especially Dei Verbum). This will demonstrate that indeed there is a significant correspondence between „Catholic” thinking and „dialogical” thinking.

With the „Rope of the Word” to the Understanding of the Human: Thinking with Ebner and Tischner

Opis:
The question of the human being remains as topical as ever in spite of or even because of actual developments. We try to tackle this problem with two philosophers who focus on the subject of the „human being”: Józef Tischner and Ferdinand Ebner. Without doubt, the strength of Tischner (the Polish „philosopher of Solidarity”) is his ability to identify the main questions of his time; while Ebner’s strength is his method of „holding onto the rope of the word”. So we take advantage of each one’s strengths: we apply Ebner’s method to Tischner’s themes, to better understand the dialogical concept of the human person, an intrinsic aspect in the thought of both. First we present what it means to „hold onto the rope of the word”. For Ebner, the primordial characteristic of the human is that „man has the word”, so the „holding onto the rope” of this word means to see the human always in a dialogical, existential, actual, true and loving way, and to remain open to the „transcendent” dimension. We analyse further three of Tischner’s most important themes: „the good”, „freedom” and „hope” while „holding onto the rope of the word”. This lets us see some facts with remarkable clarity: that „the good” (primal in the human being himself) appears to us only in word (in relation), so „I and Thou” can be good only in relation to one another, not in „«I»-aloneness”. Freedom and hope are likewise possible only in an interpersonal „I-Thou” context and they become real in the word. In order to speak about them in depth, we must employ the concept of the word; we must „hold on the rope of the word”.
