    In recent years, the situation of people with disabilities in Poland has been attracting ever-growing public attention. Changes in higher education influence university candidates and students with disabilities as well. While necessary infrastructure is operational and functioning, there is still much to be done by the academics and the administration. However, we notice gradually increasing awareness that disability does not have to be a restriction, and it should not definitely be an obstacle to students who want to study. Universities strive to ensure all students have equal opportunities for education and their possibility of participating fully in the life of the academic community, due to a disability, is not anyhow limited or diminished.
    Od kilku lat w Polsce zainteresowanie sytuacją osób niepełnosprawnych rośnie. Zmiany w szkolnictwie wyższym obejmują także kandydatów na studentów i studentów z niepełnosprawnością. O ile infrastruktura działa coraz lepiej, o tyle zarówno nauczyciele akademiccy, jak i administracja mają jeszcze wiele do zrobienia. Stopniowo zwiększa się jednak świadomość, że niepełnosprawność nie musi być ograniczeniem, także w dostępie do nauki na uczelni wyższej. Uniwersytety dążą do tego, aby studenci mieli jednakowe szanse na kształcenie i nie doświadczali ograniczeń w uczestniczeniu w życiu społeczności akademickiej np. z powodu niepełnosprawności.

    Born in Krakow, a journalist and a writer, Dorota Terakowska did not debut until she was over 40. Not until 50–60 years old, did she achieve her literary success. Ever since, Terakowska was awarded numerous prizes; her books enjoyed good readership and were released many times. She earned wide recognition for her focus on the themes of a human lost in the world, seeking for inalienable values; often disabled or facing the end of his or her life. Terakowska’s works constitute an attempt at systemic recognition of human condition in entirety of its psychological, sociological and cultural complexity, thus forming a generative script. Her prose and journalism provide an excellent example of how one can piece the individual and the human aspects of life with the social and cultural contexts. Depicting the lives of elderly people, in the ups and downs of the autumn of their days took a prominent place in the works of Krakow-born writer and journalist (e.g. Granny Brigid’s crazy trip round Krakow, Mr. Gryms’ Mirror, Where the Angels Fall, Chrysalis, It, To be a family…, Man is the good address, The Museum of Non-existent Things).

    In the memoirs of the wartime and the post‑war period (1939–1949) Antonina Żabińska, a wife of Jan Żabiński, the director of the Warsaw Zoological Garden in the years 1929–1950, shows the dramatic events that affected her family and friends, as well as animals from the Warsaw Zoo. Żabińska is a chronicler of the history of the occupation who employs two distinct perspectives: one of humans and another of animals. A significant part of the narrative focuses on the role of the piano and animal stalls, thanks to which many Jews were saved. In 1965, Żabińska and her husband received the title Righteous Among the Nations. In 1980, for rescuing Jews during the war, she was posthumously awarded with the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, Jan Żabiński was honored with the Commander’s Cross with Star.

    Opis:
    Audiodeskrypcja polega na podawaniu (bez interpretacji i komentarza) tego, co dzieje się na przykład w filmie lub spektaklu teatralnym między dialogami bohaterów, ale także na opisywaniu zabytków czy dzieł sztuki. Przekład treści obrazów na słowa, czyli inaczej werbalny opis warstwy wizualnej spektakli teatralnych, produkcji audiowizualnych, sztuk plastycznych oraz wydarzeń widowiskowych, sprawia, iż stają się one dostępne osobom niewidomym, ociemniałym i słabowidzącym. Audiodeskrypcja w Europie działa od lat 80. XX wieku. Od 2006 roku popularyzowana jest również w Polsce. W szkicu zostanie ukazana jej istota, zarysowana historia, zostaną omówione podstawowe założenia warsztatowe i rola w krzewieniu kultury.
    Audio description involves recounting (without interpretation and commentary) what is happening, for example, in a film or a theater play, in dialogues between characters, but it also attempts to describe the space, e.g.: monuments or works of art. Translation of visual content into words, or otherwise, verbal description of visible layers of plays, audiovisual productions, art and entertainment events makes them available to the blind and visually impaired as well as to those with poor eyesight. Audio description has been cultivated in Europe since the 1980s. Since 2006, it has been popularized in Poland too. In the sketch, we refer to the essence of audio description providing an overview of the history and discussing the basic workshop rules as well as its role culture promotion.

    Etykieta językowa stanowi ważną część etykiety ogólnej. Tworzy katalog przyjętych w danej kulturze i w określonym społeczeństwie wzorów językowych zachowań grzecznościowych, przyporządkowanych konkretnym sytuacjom pragmatycznym. Etykieta językowa, także wobec osób z niepełnosprawnością, to wycinek grzeczności językowej, która powinna obowiązywać i dotyczyć każdego użytkownika języka. Jako przestrzeń badań jest ważna i potrzebna dlatego, że może stać czynnikiem istotnie oddziałującym na międzyludzką komunikację.
    Label with a label in the general label section. Most often bought in a given culture and in a pragmatic society, assigned to specific situations. Linguistic label, also for people with disabilities, to a section of language courtesy that should apply to every language user. As important and needed, it can become a significant interpersonal communication.

    Confidence – security – development. Veronica Sherborne’s Developmental Movement. Movement is a natural means of communication, and people often express themselves through it. The contemporary theory of physical education and the Developmental Movement by Veronica Sherborne both stem from Laban’s observations and experiences. The Developmental Movement Method is a non-verbal interpersonal training; it utilizes touch, movement, physical correlation, emotional and social relationships; as it refers to the early childhood experiences of people. Movement makes one realize the importance of balance whence physical contact is a source of sensory impressions. The advocate and promoter of the aforementioned method is prof. Marta Bogdanowicz (born 1943), who educates people and encourages the implementation of polysensory approach in therapeutic work. Marta Bogdanowicz is a paediatric clinical psychologist, former director of the Institute of Psychology at the University of Gdańsk, the founder and a longtime chairman, currently the vice-president, of Polish Dyslexia Association (1990), the vice-president of the European Dyslexia Association and a member of a number of international scientific societies. She is the author of over 300 publications, including 40 books and a number of non-serials: Portraits of not only famous adults with dyslexia, Gdańsk 2008, Good Start Method, Warsaw 2005, Risk of dyslexia, Gdańsk 2005, What to play with children?, Gdańsk 2004, Cuddles, Gdańsk 2003.
