Opis:
The article recalls a source from 1638 which has hitherto not been referred to in the subject-matter literature, concerning the history of two chapels at the cathedral in Vilnius: the chapel of St. Casimir founded by King Zygmunt III, and the chapel of the Immaculate Conception which was furnished as a burial chapel by Bishop Eustachy Wołłowicz (lit. Eustachijus Valavičius). The source is a diary from travels from Lublin to Vilnius (14 November–26 December 1638) written by Carmelite nuns when going to a new monastery founded by Stefan Pac (lit. Steponas Pacas) and his wife Anna Maria Ancilia née Rudomina–Dusiacka (lit. Ona Marija Ancilia Rudomina-Dusiackaitė). The memoirs were written by a nun, Mary Magdalene (Anna Żaboklicka) who described various aspects of their journeys as well as a visit to the Vilnius Cathedral organised by the Pac family. The nuns were particularly impressed by the chapel of St. Casimir. Thanks to the fact that the nun described the chapel in detail, it was possible to reconstruct the subjects of some paintings by Bartłomiej Strobel, and to additionally interpret several facts connected with the appearance of the altar with the reliquary of St. Casimir. Even though the description of the chapel of Bishop Eustachy Wołłowicz is not as detailed, it should be underlined that by inviting the nuns there, the Pac family wanted to emphasise their kinship with the monarch of Vilnius, who was commonly highly regarded.

Opis:
There is no doubt that a being who is conceived in the womb of a woman is a human being from the very beginning. It would be erroneous to say that an embryo or fetus are names of separate species. An embryo is always an embryo of something, so in the case of a human being, we talk about the human embryo, and in the subsequent stages of development about the embryo of man and the fetus of man. However, the other thing remains the moment of the spiritualization of a developing human being, with whom the abortion supporters closely link the possibility of spending the fetus. In determining the moment when fetal animation takes place, no scientific research will help, because this issue is purely spiritual. However, it should be remembered that speaking about a human being, we can not exclude at any stage of her development of her having a soul, and therefore the argument that there is no certainty that the soul has a soul can not be an argument in favor of abortion. The article presents the position of the Catholic Church in relation to fetal animation over the centuries, beginning with antiquity and ending with modern times. It is noteworthy that this position was extremely different in particular epochs, and irrespective of the position of the Church’s Magisterium, opinions of the doctrine were different. At present, the Church recognizes that it is impossible to determine the moment of spiritualization scientifically, but nevertheless, one should lean towards the assertion that man receives the soul at the moment of conception, and certainly rejects the view that abortions can be made at the initial stage of pregnancy

The papier is a study of Matthew 1,18b–25 focalized on the narrative form of expression of belief in Incarnation. The studied pericope is presented as a key element of the Matthew’s Infancy Gospel (Matthew 1–2). Analysis of the plot of narrative is completed with the study of the quotation of Is 7,9 used in Matthew 1,23 in the Greek version (LXX). Both, the narrative and the form of the quoted text chosen by the author of the gospel are focalized on the virginal conception of Jesus as a decisive argument for the divine origin of Jesus. Inner textual recipient of the message of Incarnation is St. Joseph, a model of believer.

Opis:
This article presents the concept of interpretation for an unusual symbolic language of Saint Hildegard von Bingen, who in her writing tried to express the unity of the entire creation and its dependence on the Creator. According to Hildegard, the whole world was planned and ordered by the Creator, and each thing is a kind of message, the word of the Creator, which is related to Him. The disaster, which was the original sin, disrupted the original harmony of the creation and introduced evil and falsehood to this creation. Relationships between earthly things, as well as between God and man were falsified. Thanks to her visions and their interpretations, Hildegard wants to show the real place of man in space. She wants to restore his ability to understand the world and read it as a message and the path to the Creator. Moreover, she intends to clean up the human language from the false. However, Saint Hildegard von Bingen knows quite well that the language without falsehood and lies, which reflects the harmony of man with cosmos and God, will be revealed to man at the end of time. For people, who have contact with Hildegard and for Hildegard, this language is the metaphysical truth, but not a historical reality (yet).

Opis:
Wyjaśnienie tej kwestii jestkonieczne, by zobaczyć, iż oryginalna myśl mariologiczna św. Bernarda z Clairvauxjest mocno osadzona w pewnym kluczu teologicznym, a jego wizja miała wpływna późniejszą mariologię.

Opis:
Antoni Messing (ca. 1821-1867) the owner of the stone workshop located in Warsaw on 6 Powązkowska Street (mtge. 27C) is currently most famous for one monument- the Statue of the Virgin Mary of Immaculate Conception which was placed in front of the Church of St Antony of Padua on Senatorska Street (1851). What made this monument different from other independently standing monuments was the use of lanterns which at evening time illuminated the statue of the Virgin (1853). The innovative idea spread not only around Warsaw, but also outside the city boundaries. References to the monument elevated by Messing were not limited to the way and form of illuminating the statue. The inventory research conducted on Warsaw cemeteries ena-ble the extraction of a group of tombstones imitating the shape and the decor of the plinth of the statue of the Virgin. The number of examples of this collection of tombstones numbers 19. Their execution dates back to the period 1853-1874 - with one exception only, all of them were elevated during the period of Antoni Messing’s ownership of the stone workshop. All of them represent the same commemoration in the form of a crucifix located on a plinth. Exam-ples can be separated into two groups. One, comprising 8 tombstones, the closest to the origi-nal, the other, comprising 11 examples preserves the architectural structure without the sculp-tural decor. The origin of the formal concept is to be traced in the project of Henryk Marconi’s garden vase designed for Wilanowski Park (ca. 1845-1851) as well as the finishing elements of the Stanisław and Antoni Potocki’s tombstones. Consequently, the contribution of Messing consists in the creation of the series of tombstones modeled on the statue of the Virgin Mary rather than the originality of the project.
