Opis:
The article describes the echoes of events from the outside world in an enclosed Norbertine convent in Imbramowice and is mainly based on records taken from The Chronicle of Sophia Grothówna from the years 1703-1741. Although the Norbertine monastery was (and still is) enclosed, it maintained communications with the outside world on a regular basis but unwillingly. This article discusses just such situations. Sisters had to contend with numerous military invasions, requesting ever larger contributions and looting the surroundings belonging to the nuns’ granges. During the wars of the seventeenth century a number of plague broke out, which reached the surrounding areas in Imbarmowice. The peasants contracted the plague from the army. In other events, there were the outbreak of fires, the largest broke out in 1704, and many sisters had to leave the monastery and move to other monasteries or return to their homes. The reconstruction of the monastery took almost 20 years. The article describes information about the floods, strong winds, hunger, cold and drought that ravaged the monastery and caused major damage in convent farms.

Opis:
The subject of the article is a seventeenth-century Chronicle by Stefan Ranatowicz CRL. The chronicler was born and spent most of his life in Kazimierz near Cracow. He was born in 1617 in a fairly wealthy for those times, a middle-class family whose origin is unknown. He died in 1694. The writing of priest Stefan Ranatowicz covers works of historiographical and hagiographical nature. One can find biographical works and collections of sermons as well as entries in the books of various kinds including civil records or “brackie” books or administrative-economic books, as well as in the book of general chapters. The author was in fact a chronicler of the Order of Canons Regular of the Lateran with particular emphasis on the congregation of Corpus Christi in Kazimierz near Cracow. Some interest in the Chronicle appeared only after the death of its author. Until now, however, this work has not been fully drawn up or released – it still remains in the form of a manuscript in the collections of the Jagiellonian Library. It is the story of the Congregation of Canons Regular of the Lateran of congregation of Cracow. It contains a presentation of achievements and short biographies of provosts; also described are the beginnings of Kazimierz near Cracow, which in times of the chronicler was actually a separate town. The work was intended by the author for the benefit of the monastery of canons regular. The Chronicle was written in two languages – Latin and Polish. Stefan Ranatowicz used both fluently and with great ease. The essential part of the Chronicle covers the history of successive provosts of the Kazimierz convent of Canons Regular of the Lateran presented in chronological order of governance. These events are shown on the background of the history of the parish of Corpus Christi and the towns of Kazimierz and Cracow. The author also places some notes on the events in Poland and in the world, although to those most important he devoted separate chapters later in the book. The work constitutes a valuable and reliable source for the study of history and culture.

The goal of this study is, on the one hand, to outline the circumstances leading to formation of the convent of Reformed Franciscans in Namysłów in 1675, and on the other hand, to show the way of conducting historiographical narrative in the chronicle sources of Reformed Franciscans. This issue is particularly interesting in the context of repossession activities, which have been conducted by the St. Wenceslaus’ Czech province of Reformed Franciscans since the beginning of the 17th century, aiming at the return of observance monasteries confiscated in the era of the Reformation and, in this way, rebuilding the struc-tures of the province. The goal of systematized vision of the past was, on the one hand, to consolidate the young province, on the other hand, to demonstrate historical rights of Czech Reformed Franciscans to particular monastic houses. An example of such narrative, coordinated by one of the provincials, Fr Bernard Sannig, is a chronicle of the convent of Reformed Franciscans in Namysłów, which was, with 9 other monasteries, a Silesian part of Czech province.
