Opis:
Cremated skeletal remains from two cemeteries (sites 3 and 7) located within the settlement complex in the area of the village of Ulów (Tomaszów Lubelski commune, Tomaszów Lubelski district, Lublin province) underwent anthropological analysis. Eighty-one features discovered at site 3 included remains of eighty individuals, while fifty-seven features found at site 7 included remains of fifty-seven individuals. The determination of the sex of individuals buried in funeral pits was possible only in isolated instances: at site 3 in three cases (3.7%), and at site 7 in one case (1.8%). The ages of those buried at the cemeteries of the Ulów complex are similar: biologically immature individuals make 33.7% - 38.6% of all those buried, while adults account for 32.5% - 26.3%. The features, at both cemeteries, most often included heavily or severely cremated skeletal remains: at site 3 there were seventy-four features (91.3%), and at site 7 there were forty features (70.2%). The average weight of bone remains found in the features at site 3 equals 34.1 grams, and 47.2 grams at site 7. Apart from human bones, some graves at the Ulów cemeteries contained fragments of animal bones.

Opis:
The article concerns the discovery of the new Przeworsk culture burial ground, which is only the second known burial site from the Upper San River basin, beside of necropolis located in Prusiek site 25. The site 33 in Pakoszówka was excavated completely during field works carried out between 2015 - 2018. During the excavations, a number of richly furnished burials were discovered, including extraordinary double warrior grave. Beside of graves where metal parts of weaponry were found, a few graves without rich inventory were discovered. The site is dated to the end of the Early Roman Period and the late Phase C1 of the Younger Roman Period. The burial ground in Pakoszówka corresponds well with the recent funeral finds from Rankovce located in Eastern Slovakia (Košice Region). Together with finds from the Upper Tisa River basin, it indicates migration of the Przeworsk culture population to the areas bordering the Roman Empire in this turbulent time and the special role it played in the events of the end of the second century A.D.

Opis:
In the Late Iron Age biritual cemetery from Fântânele-Dealul Iuşului / La Gâţa the remains of 43 individuals from 41 graves have been excavated to this day. The analysis of inhumation and cremation burials allowed for a paleodemographic study of this community settled on the fringes of the Celtic world. In addition to data on the sex and age or intravital body height of the deceased, pathological changes and epigenetic traits were also observed in some cases. Furthermore, analyses of the cremated human remains also brought to light different characteristics of burial habits, such as burning temperature or the rate of collection of the remains from the pyre.

Opis:
During the 1st-3rd centuries AD, waves of migrations repeatedly swept through the area of present-day western Ukraine. As evidenced by archaeological materials, migrations of Dacian and Przeworsk populations at the beginning of the 1st century AD and during the 2nd century led to the formation of the Lipitsa culture in this region, a cultural unit combining ethnic traits of both communities. Turbulent times of the Marcomannic Wars (166–180 AD) and a new wave of Przeworsk culture migration pushed the Lipitsa population out to Dacia. The distribution of archaeological sites from the late 2nd-3rd cent. AD shows that the Danube region was not the only direction of the Przeworsk tribes’ movement, as they also resettled and colonised new territories in the Volhynia, Podolia, and Polesia regions. Thus, the Przeworsk populations migrating to the western Ukraine in the first two centuries AD blended with the Dacian milieu, contributing to the creation of the Lipitsa culture. The Przeworsk populations of the second wave, which moved to the territory of Ukraine towards the end of the 2nd century and in the first half of the 3rd century AD, became the basis and a major component of a new cultural unit: the Chernyakhov culture of the Late Roman Period.

Opis:
Juliusz Świecianowski (1834-1900) was a member of the Academia di San Luca, Academia di Belle Arti in Bologna and the Congregazione dei Virtuosi al Pantheon in Rome (today Pontificia Insigne Accademia di Belle Arti e Lettere). He was an architect by education but, above all, a theoretician and inventor. He published his universalistic aesthetic theories alluding to occultism and Kabbalah in many languages. At the same time, he described and patented practical technical devices - faecal dryers, crematoria, and disinfection furnaces - whose task was to free the world from harmful miasms. He was remembered as an eccentric and visionary, believing that the essence of the world’s beauty lies in harmony resulting from the combining of all aspects of nature and human creation and that the salvation for this beauty is the development of the art of hygiene, which will free the world from the harmful fumes of civilization.
