    This paper aims to demystify the way in which the mechanics of the Kafka Trial reproduces the Freudian topography of id, ego and superego, within which shame acts as a warning signal, as well as to highlight the hostile representation of psychoanalysis in The Trial. Thus, in an allegorical form, justice, through its representatives, would personify the inquisitive gaze of the analyst, whose theory resembles a law he himself enacted. It is also a question of how this criticism of psychoanalysis could emerge from the study of Talmudic writings undertaken by Kafka around 1911, impregnating in the author a conception of the law and its transgression incompatible with the Freudian doctrine.

    Die Arbeit stellt einen Versuch dar, das fotografische Bild und die Körpermetapher in der Prosa Franz Kafkas als simulative und mimetische Darstellungsregister auszuweisen, die vom Leser zweierlei Empfangsarten verlangen: den Nach-Vollzug des darin inszenierten Phantomisierungs- und Verkörperungsvorgangs. Die Werke Kafkas, so die These der Arbeit, exemplifizieren damit auf eminente Weise die Vieldeutigkeit und Komplexität von Mimesis und Simulation, die auch den poetologischen Theorien von Erich Auerbach und Wolfgang Iser zugrunde liegt. Bei unterschiedlichen Voraussetzungen weisen die Positionen Auerbachs und Isers einen gemeinsamen Wesenspunkt auf, der ihrem dynamischen und prozessualen Charakter entspricht: den kreativen „Blick des Lesenden“. So treffen die poetologische Reflexion und die dichterische Darstellung bei Kafka zusammen.
    This paper is an attempt at presenting the photographic image and the metaphor of the body in Franz Kafka’s prose as two registers of presentation: a simulative and a mimetic one, which require a twofold manner of reception from the reader: co-performance as the phantomization and embodiment. The works by Kafka in a splendid way constitute a poetic presentation of the concepts of simulation and mimesis, the ambiguity and complexity of which are shown in the theories of Erich Auerbach and Wolfgang Iser. Despite discordant premises, these theories contain one common point, which matches their processual and dynamic character: the “reader’s creative sight”. Poetological reflection thus meets Kafka’s poetic presentation.

    Kafkas hybride Tierfiguren stehen in einer höchst vielschichtigen Gemengelage von zeitgenössischen Debatten und Diskursen. Sie werden jeweils mittels spezifisch literarischer Darstellungsformen verarbeitet. In der dekonstruktiven Verunsicherung der Mensch-Tier-Grenze und der Schaffung von Schwellenräumen machen Kafkas Texte Anleihen bei der Romantik. Der Beitrag fokussiert insbesondere Kafkas kreative Umschriften phantastischen Erzählens und romantischer Ironie.
    Kafka’s hybrid animal figures are situated in a complex set of contemporary debates and discourses always modified through specific literary presentation forms. In the deconstructive questioning of the human-animal frontier and the creation of threshold spaces, Kafka’s texts refer to the Romantic tradition. In particular, the article focuses on Kafka’s creative transcriptions of fantastic narration and romantic irony.

    In Träume eines Geistersehers, erläutert durch Träume der Metaphysik parallelisiert Kant nicht nur die Leibniz- Wolffsche-Philosophie mit der spiritistischen Theosophie Swedenborgs, sondern versucht vor allem die rationalistische Philosophie vor einer Geisterseherei zu bewahren. Dass damit für den „Bürger zweier Welten“ die Vermischung von durchdringlichen und undurchdringlichen Substanzen nicht gebannt ist, sondern vielmehr zum unheimlichen Doppelgängertum mutiert, lässt sich durch die Werke des Kant- und Swedenborg-Lesers Hoffmann aufweisen. Wie es darüber hinaus Kafka vermag, die „Doppelbürgerschaft“ als semantische wie performative Kampfbewegung zu realisieren, wird ein weiterer Untersuchungsgegenstand sein.
    In Dreams of a Spirit-Seer, illustrated by Dreams of Metaphysics, Immanuel Kant relates the philosophies of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and Christian Wolff to the spiritistic theosophy of Emanuel Swedenborg to prevent rationalism from changing into ghost-seeing. As human beings are “citizens of two worlds”, the danger of confounding permeable and impermeable substances is not averted. The consequence is rather that eerie lookalikes emerge, which I will show using the example of E. T. A. Hoffmann, who read both Kant and Swedenborg. My paper also examines Franz Kafka’s successful realizing of the “double citizenship” as a semantic and performative combat move.
