    Celem opracowania jest analiza poziomu rozwoju zrównoważonego podregionów pięciu województw Polski Wschodniej w latach 2013 i 2015 oraz wskazanie czynników kluczowych determinujących pozycję podregionów w rankingach. Analiza została przeprowadzona z wykorzystaniem metody Hellwiga. W pracy dokonano porównania rankingu podregionów z roku 2013 z nowym rankingiem opracowanym dla roku 2015. Dla sporządzenia tychże rankingów zostały wykorzystane wskaźniki zrównoważonego rozwoju opracowane przez Urząd Statystyczny w Katowicach w roku 2011. Następnie przedstawiono zmiany, jakie zaszły w rankingu podregionów w uwzględnionym okresie oraz przeanalizowano przyczyny tychże zmian.
    The aim of the paper is to analyse the level of sustainable development in the subregions of the five voivodships of Eastern Poland in years 2013 and 2015 and indicate crucial determinants influencing the position of subregions in rankings. Analysis was conducted using the Hellwig method. In the paper, authors compared the ranking of subregions from 2013 with the new ranking for 2015. For preparing these rankings indicators of the sustainable development drawn up by Statistical Office in Katowice in 2011 were used. Next point was to describe changes which occurred in the ranking of subregions in the analysed period, as well as shown reasons of changes.

    Opis:
    W artykule podjęto zagadnienie wielokryterialnego rangowania i oceny spółek giełdowych w sytuacji niepełnej informacji liniowej, dotyczącej wag kryteriów (wagi nie są wyrażone jako konkretne wartości liczbowe, ale znane są pewne liniowe zależności między nimi). Wykorzystywaną metodą wielokryterialną jest metoda AHP, natomiast jako kryteria uwzględnione zostały wskaźniki fundamentalne, określające kondycję ekonomiczno-finansową spółek oraz mierniki klasyczne – stopa zwrotu oraz jej odchylenie standardowe.
    The article presents an application of the AHP method (one of multi-criteria decision making method) in creating rankings of selected quoted companies under conditions of linear partial information. The problem of building rankings can be treated as a multi-criteria problem, where as criteria can be used some diagnostic features, that characterize financial and economic condition of companies, as well as standard classic measures like return rate and standard deviation of return rate. In the proposed approach the AHP method was used, when the criteria weights were not known precisely, only some linear constraints on them were known – in such situation we talk about linear partial information.

    Aim/purpose – Saudi Arabia is rapidly urbanizing, where the number of urban residents, currently exceeds 80% of the population. Many cities in the country face challenges of sustainability, livability, resilience, and thus global reputation. Therefore, measuring city performance is crucial in assessing urban complexity in order to improve development potential. As stated in Vision 2030 of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, attempts at improving the global competitiveness and reputation of cities are of prime importance. This attempt aims at developing a culturally sensitive city ranking methodology, testing the method with relevant statistics, and presenting the preliminary results for further discussions, deliberations, and extensions. Design/methodology/approach – In this context, an index named Saudi Arabia’s City-Ranking Index (SACRI) was developed, which proposes a three-dimensional assessment, incorporating livability, competitiveness, and environmental sustainability with 58 indicators (widely used or culturally specific). This exercise is carried out in 17 future cities, considering the feasibility criterion. Findings – Riyadh emerged as the most preferred city with the first rank, followed by Jeddah, Dammam, Madina, and Al Baha in order. Najran ranks 17, the last, preceded by Jazan, Al Qatif, Arar, and Al Taif. Research implications/limitations – This ranking of Saudi Arabia’s cities seeks importance in planning, improving, and promoting livability, competitiveness, and environmental sustainability to grab prominent places on a global scale. Originality/value/contribution – This exercise is unique for Saudi Arabia, with specific cultural dimensions that could be replicated in the neighboring Arab countries.

    When a ranking is obtained for a set of projects, the introduction of a new project, worse than the others, may sometimes perturb the ranking. This is called rank reversal, and happens in most Multi Criteria Decision Making models. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that a new method, based on Linear Programming, is immune to rank reversal, which is proved by analyzing the algorithm used to solve the problem. The paper also examines a situation that produces rank reversal when two or more projects have close or identical values.

    W opracowaniu zawarto wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w wybranym przedsiębiorstwie branży spożywczej. Zaprezentowano dualne podejście do oceny poziomu jakości logistycznej obsługi klienta. Do analizy wewnętrznej zastosowano metodę rankingową opartą na ankiecie przeprowadzonej wśród pracowników przedsiębiorstwa, natomiast analizę zewnętrzną przeprowadzono na podstawie Servqual.
    The paper contains the results of research carried out in a food company. There are presented dual approach to the assessment of the logistics customer service quality level. For the internal analysis there was applied ranking method based on a survey conducted among employees, while the external analysis was based on Servqual method.

    The paper studied potential impact of the expected globalization trends of the Czech Industry 4.0. The specifics of the Czech Republic economy – as of a typical open export-oriented small European country – are characterized and analyzed in the international context of the EU and the world economy. Indexes of globalization and digitalization are used to highlight the current state of the 4th industrial revolution and its development in future. The paper demonstrated the necessity of a holistic approach to the research of globalization and of the Industry 4.0 research (based on interdisciplinary research in country case studies). It is expected that the speed of digitalization in the Czech Republic will be higher than the speed of the overall transition to Industry 4.0.
    W artykule rozpatrzono potencjalny wpływ oczekiwanych trendów globalizacyjnych na czeski Przemysł 4.0. Specyfika gospodarki Republiki Czeskiej – jako typowego, otwartego na eksport małego kraju europejskiego – została scharakteryzowana oraz przeanalizowana w międzynarodowym kontekście gospodarki UE i światowej. Indeksy globalizacji i cyfryzacji posłużyły podkreśleniu obecnego stanu czwartej rewolucji przemysłowej oraz jej potencjalnego rozwoju w przyszłości. W artykule wskazano na konieczność holistycznego podejścia do badań nad globalizacją i Przemysłem 4.0 (przy wykorzystaniu interdyscyplinarnych badań studiów przypadków krajowych). Oczekuje się, że tempo cyfryzacji w Czechach będzie wyższe niż tempo ogólnej transformacji do Przemysłu 4.0.

    When comparing performance (of products, services, entities, etc.), multiple attributes are involved. This paper deals with a way of weighting these attributes when one is seeking an overall score. It presents an objective approach to generating the weights in a scoring formula which avoids personal judgement. The first step is to find the maximum possible score for each assessed entity. These upper bound scores are found using Data Envelopment Analysis. In the second step the weights in the scoring formula are found by regressing the unique DEA scores on the attribute data. Reasons for using least squares and avoiding other distance measures are given. The method is tested on data where the true scores and weights are known. The method enables the construction of an objective scoring formula which has been generated from the data arising from all assessed entities and is, in that sense, democratic.

    W porównywaniu akcji notowanych na giełdzie stosuje się najczęściej kryteria wykorzystujące wybrane parametry rozkładu, wyznaczane na podstawie danych historycznych przy założeniu dyskretnego rozkładu losowych stóp zwrotu. Miarą uwzględniającą pełną informację o rozkładzie jest wskaźnik omega. W artykule przedstawiono przykład zastosowania wskaźnika omega do oceny akcji przy założeniu ciągłego rozkładu stóp zwrotu. Celem pracy jest empiryczna weryfikacja zależności uporządkowania (względem wskaźnika omega) losowych wariantów decyzyjnych od przyjętego rozkładu.
    When comparing shares quoted on the stock exchange, investors the most often use the criteria which are based on selected parameters of the probability distribution. In such approach historical date are being used and a discrete probability distribution of random returns is assumed. The omega ratio is a measure which takes into account all the information about the probability distribution. In this paper we present the example of applying the omega ratio to the evaluation of shares assuming a continuous distribution of returns. The aim of this paper is to empirically verify the relationship between the order (according to the omega ratio) of random decision alternatives and the assumed probability distribution.

    The competitive position of the economy is an important aspect of her perception from the perspective of investors. At the same time an increasing importance is being paid to the implementation of sustainable development (SD) as a response to the ongoing process of imbalance observed in the modern world economy. The analysis proves the lack of contradiction between the achievement of the goals of SD, understood as the attainment of desired levels of SD indicators and the competitive position of EU economies. It can also be concluded about the positive effects of the implementation of the SD on the achievement of a high competitive position, which in the long run should help reducing the scale of threats to the SD of the world economy.

    Celem niniejszego artykułu jest wskazanie drogi, którą należy podążać w celu prawidłowej interpretacji rozwoju na płaszczyźnie gospodarczej jednostek samorządu terytorialnego. Przyjęto założenie, iż kluczowym czynnikiem, który należy przyjąć przy przeprowadzaniu badania, jest uwzględnienie wskaźnika zadłużenia oprocentowanego ogółem per capita. Jako przedmiot badania przyjęto miasta na prawach powiatu, gminy miejskie, gminy miejsko-wiejskie oraz gminy wiejskie. Podjęto próbę zbadania, czy wysokość poziomu zadłużenia oprocentowanego per capita będzie zmienną oddziałującą na zajmowane miejsce w rankingu. Przeprowadzone badania wykazują taką zmianę w zakresie gmin miejskich oraz wiejskich.
    The purpose of this article is to point out the way that should be followed to properly interpret the economic development of local government units. An assumption has been adopted that the key ratio in the analysis is the interest-bearing debt per capita. The research has covered county-cities, urban municipalities, urban-rural municipalities and rural municipalities. An attempt has been made to diagnose whether or not the level of the interest-bearing debt per capita will be a factor influencing the municipality’s position in the ranking. The research that has been carried out indicates the presence of such a factor in the case of urban and rural municipalities

    Taking into account international innovation rankings, Poland is characterised by low innovative potential when compared not only to EU-27 countries but also to other world economies. The reasons for this situation are inter alia: low level of infrastructure development, including the information-communication one, not satisfying results of innovative activity, low level of connections between actors participating in innovation creation and diffusion, low innovative activity of small and medium-sized enterprises. Due to the economic crisis it is necessary to take intensive action in order to reinforce innovative potential of our country to rival the competition which is becoming more intensive, and at the same time it is necessary to review innovative policy performed so far.

    The paper is an attempt to perform a comparative analysis of the situation on labour market of districts of Slaskie voivodeship in 2006 and in 2010 through providing its statistical image. In the first stage of the study a synthetic variable (Hellwig measurement) was constructed. It allowed for linear ordering of the districts from "the best" to "the worst" with respect to the situation on labour market and for the assessment of the change of image of labour market in Slaskie voivodeship in 2010 in comparison with 2006. In this way the thesis that measurement of condition of the labour market with the use of synthetic variable provides more reliable results than the measurement with the use of only the unemployment rate was to be verified.
