Opis:: The term quality of life is difficult to define accurately, because it combines many different aspects, including economic, sociological, psychological and even these belonging to political science. Reflections on the quality of life appeared somewhere half of the twentieth century and are associated with attempts to realize the idea of so-called welfare economics, calling for the achievement of such economic development of the country in which the welfare state might occur. And then came the idea that quality of life is determined by the Gross Domestic Product index. But when discussing this issue, it turned out that one must also consider the Human Development Index, indicating the perspectives of other disciplines on this issue. So, the quality of life combines among other satisfaction of life, which is determined by many other factors.

Opis:: An increase of obesity and overweight rates represents a major problems for individuals and social policies in developed countries. Obese individuals face stigmatization, health problems and discrimination, have lower chances for employment of higher positions and lower incomes. There are many reasons to believe that the quality of their life is relatively lower. In the study Body Mass Index was used as a measure of weight, and: happiness, life satisfaction and depression - as measures of quality of life. The study of adult Poles provides evidences overweight and obese individuals are not less happy or satisfied with their life than others.

Jest to potencjalny problem jakości życia w sytuacji niepełnego zdrowia i innych ograniczeń związanych z wiekiem osób, gdy będą żyć dłużej niż oczekiwana długość życia. Celem pracy jest wskazanie na najistotniejsze determinanty kształtujące ryzyko długowieczności.
A longevity risk is any potential risk attached to the increasing life expectancy of pensioners and policy holders, which can eventually translate in higher than expected pay-out-ratios for many pension funds and insurance companies. One important risk to individuals who are spending down savings, is that they will live longer than expected and thus exhaust their savings, dying in poverty or burdening relatives. The main aim of this paper is to point out the most important determinants which influent to longevity risk.

Opis:: Celem artykułu była identyfikacja i analiza zależności pomiędzy jakością pracy a jakością życia. Przedstawiono istotę i sens jakości pracy. Następnie zaprezentowano sposób ujmowania jakości życia. Dokonano analizy zależności występujących między jakością pracy a jakością życia. Stwierdzono, iż jakość pracy jest istotną determinantą jakości życia społeczeństwa. Ponadto zaprezentowano odczucia pracowników branży tartacznej co do jakości ich życia w odniesieniu do jakości pracy.
The aim of the article was to identify and analyze the correlation between the quality of work and quality of life. The essence and meaning of the quality of work was presented. Furthermore, the article presented how to recognize the quality of life. An analysis was based on correlation between the quality of work and the quality of life. It was stated that the quality of work is an important determinant of the quality of life of society. Moreover, the article presented sawmilling industry employees feeling about the quality of their lives in relation to the quality of work.

Pierwszy został określony w wyniku badań kwestionariuszowych przeprowadzonych na grupie osób niedosłyszących aktywnych zawodowo. Drugi poprzez identyfikację innowacji na podstawie wywiadu bezpośredniego wytypowanych firm oraz w oparciu o dane Urzędu Patentowego RP.
The aim of the study is to present technological solutions, which support for the hearing impaired, who want to participate in working life as well as their expectations for innovation, which could further strengthen them in this decision. The aim has been realized through the confrontation of potential and real market innovations introduced with the purpose for the hearing impaired. The first was determined by questionnaire research conducted on a group of professionally active hearing impaired. The second through the identification of innovations based on direct interviews of selected companies, and based on the data of the Polish Patent Office.

Opis:: Artykuł ma charakter badawczy, a jego celem jest charakterystyka wybranych subiektywnych i egocentrycznych wyznaczników jakości życia, analizowanej w kategoriach przestrzennych i czasowych. Artykuł przygotowano na podstawie wyników badań ankietowych. Odpowiedzi dotyczące subiektywnej jakości życia wskazują, że respondenci są w zdecydowanej większości zadowoleni z całokształtu swojego życia i to oni mają zasadniczy wpływ na jakość swojego życia. Przeprowadzona analiza skupień pozwoliła na wyodrębnienie trzech grup respondentów różniących się między sobą opinią na temat tego, kto powinien mieć porównywalną do badanych lub lepszą jakość życia (rodzina, znajomi, przyjaciele, wszyscy mieszkańcy). Kolejne analizy pozwoliły na stwierdzenie różnic w hierarchii wartości poszczególnych grup.
The article is of a research nature and its main purpose is to characterize selected subjective and egocentric determinants of quality of life analyzed both from the point of view of overall satisfaction of life as well as the various perception of quality of life in spatial and temporal terms. The article is based on the results of a survey. Responses concerning subjective quality of life indicate that the residents of the studied regions are in their vast majority satisfied with the whole of their lives. The respondents believe that they themselves have a major impact on the quality of their lives. The conducted cluster analysis allowed for distinguishing of three groups of respondents who differed in their opinion on who should have a quality of life comparable or better than that of the respondents (family, friends, friends, all residents). Subsequent analyzes allowed to identify differences in the hierarchy of values of particular groups.

Opis:: The creation of conditions for improvement of the quality of life in a local community is the goal of development policies at each level of local government. A special role will be played here by the gmina (commune) local government as it is vested with decision- making powers and provided with various instruments. Of crucial importance for shaping long-term development policies at the local level are planning instruments. Preliminary observations show that the improvement of life quality as an objective usually exists in the consciousness of local government authorities but actions are as a rule taken as a response to current stimuli and factors and they do not always correspond to the objectives and priorities adopted in the planning documents. In light of the foregoing, the goal of this study is to identify local policies concerning improvement of the quality of life in rural communes, based on the analysis of their local strategies and on interviews with representatives of local government authorities. Studies covered the rural communes of the Janów district in the Lubelskie province.

Celem artykułu jest analiza preferencji, do której wykorzystamy wielowymiarową analizę statystyczną w ocenie jakości życia w miastach przez starszych mieszkańców. Analiza zostanie przeprowadzona na podstawie danych uzyskanych z badania ankietowego przeprowadzonego wśród starszych ludzi zamieszkujących województwo śląskie. Ankietę stanowiło kilka bloków pytań, odpowiedzi respondenci udzielali na skali porządkowej.
Analysis of the preference of the quality of life of seniors in cities occurring demographic changes in the society are deciding about new areas of research. In particular preferences of the elderly were provided with examinations. Analysis of the preference for which we will use a multidimensional statistical analysis in the quality assessment of living in cities by older residents is a purpose of the article. Analysis will be conducted based on data obtained from the conducted questionnaire survey amongst an elderly men inhabiting the Silesian province. The questionnaire form was filed from a few blocks of questions, respondents answered on the ordinal scale.

Modern cities face numerous challenges: social and economic but also those constituted by spatial and environmental planning. Accumulating problems in the functioning of the city call for a different approach to its management. The goal of urban policy is to make the city attractive in a number of ways and ensure all its inhabitants a high quality of life. Because of the processes of depopulation and aging of urban society, it is now very important to make the city friendly to older people, so that specific needs of this age group will be attended to.

Opis:: Happy Planet Index (HPI) is an aggregated index that measures the extent to which each nation produces long and happy lives per unit of environmental input. The HPI uses global data on life expectancy, experienced well-being, and ecological footprint to rank countries. The last HPI report was published in 2012 and it contains data for 151 countries from all continents. The aim of the paper is to re-calculate the HPI using DEA models and other multiple criteria decision making techniques and compare the results obtained results. MCDM methods evaluate alternatives (countries) according to the set of criteria with respect to given preferences. Most of them allow ranking of alternatives according to aggregated indices defined by various methods. DEA models compare the countries with the best performers in the data set and measure the efficiency of transformation of multiple inputs into multiple outputs. Even though they are based on different principles than MCDM methods they allow ranking of evaluated units according to their efficiency or super-efficiency scores. The paper analyzes both methodological approaches and compares their results.

Opis:: Since 1948 Federal Republic of Germany functions in a system of social market economy. This system underwent various evolutions and now requires constant renewal and updates. This is due to the rapid changes that occur in the contemporary economy. The consequence of the dynamic development was negligent in the protection in the environment, which in turn influenced reduction of welfare and quality of life. Hence, the German parliament decided to appoint a Committee of Experts, which was to take care of the ways to overcome the negative effects of economic development. The aim of this paper is to present a method of creating a new alternative measure of well- being (indicator W3), as well as conclusions included in a Commission of Ex¬perts' final report and selected recommendations for economic politicians.

Opis:: Głównym celem badania było zrozumienie postrzegania jakości życia przez osoby starsze. Badanie miało charakter pilotażowy, zostało przeprowadzonych 8 indywidualnych wywiadów pogłębionych oraz zogniskowany wywiad grupowy. Badanie zostało podzielone na 4 bloki tematyczne: jakość życia, sieć kontaktów, zdrowie oraz wsparcie. Dla respondentów wspólne jest identyfikowanie stanu zdrowia oraz sytuacji materialnej jako głównych determinant jakości życia. Pomimo problemów materialnych i zdrowotnych, z jakimi borykają się osoby starsze, badani starają się być samowystarczalni. Mają pozytywne nastawienie do życia, dążą do tego, by aktywnie wpływać na jego jakość. Badając sieć kontaktów seniorów skupiono się na relacjach z rodziną oraz znajomymi. Badani wskazywali na odmienność tych dwóch typów kontaktów, jednakże traktowali je częściej jako komplementarne wobec siebie niż jako substytuty. W przeprowadzonych wywiadach pojawił się również problem samotności. Dotyczył on w szczególności starszych seniorów, których rówieśnicy umierali i w efekcie sieć kontaktów badanego ulegała skurczeniu. Niemal wszyscy badani podkreślali samodzielne funkcjonowanie i niezależność jako kluczowe elementy definicji zdrowia. Przebadani seniorzy zgodnie wskazywali na ruch oraz dietę jako dwa główne czynniki wpływające na zdrowie. Dodatkowo wymieniano uwarunkowania genetyczne, zaniedbania leczenia w przeszłości, a także dostęp do lekarza. Badane osoby najczęściej potrzebowały pomocy przy sprzątaniu i załatwianiu bieżących spraw, a wsparcie było udzielane zwykle przez rodzinę oraz rzadziej przez opiekunki i znajomych. Proszenie o pomoc było dla badanych trudne, dlatego starali się być samowystarczalni, a o pomoc prosili tylko wtedy, gdy było to niezbędne. Respondenci chętnie opiekowali się wnukami. Ponadto, w miarę możliwości wspierali finansowo swoje dzieci oraz udzielali pomocy sąsiedzkiej przy drobnych pracach.
The main goal of the research was to understand the perception of the quality of life by the elderly. The research followed a qualitative approach. There were 8 individual In-depth interviews and a Focus group interview conducted. The study was split into 4 thematic blocks: quality of life, social and family networks, health and support. The respondents identified health status and financial situation as the main quality of life determinants. Despite the financial and health problems that the older people are facing, the respondents are trying to be self-sufficient. They have positive attitude towards life and strive to actively exert influence on its quality. Almost all interviewed people underlined the unassisted living and independence as key elements of the health definition. They almost unanimously pointed at exercise and diet as two main factors affecting health. Additionally, genetic conditioning, past health treatment negligence as well as access to a doctor were mentioned as determinants of their current health status. What’s more, they observed that health deterioration is affecting their relations with family and friends and the way they spend free time. When examining the social and family networks the focus was put on two types of relations: friends and family. The respondents pointed at distinctness of these two types of relations, however they treated them more often as complementary rather than substitutable. In the conducted interviews the problem of loneliness also appeared. It particularly concerned older seniors whose peers had already been dying and, therefore, their network of contacts had been shrinking. The respondents most often required help with cleaning and getting small affairs in order, while the support came mostly from family. The support was also provided by professional caregivers and friends. Asking for help was difficult for the respondents. That is why they tried to be self-sufficient and asked for help only when it was indispensable. The respondents were eager to take care of their grandchildren, they support their children financially and give small neighbor-support.
