Opis:: Silesia is a region where many environmental problems are focused. In this context, it is important to keeping the water management and sewage disposal systems based on the principles of sustainable development. This approach guarantees a creation of social, environment and economy friendly systems. The main purpose of this article is to identify the features of sustainable water management and sewage disposal systems and fundamental problems and activities of the Silesian region in this regard.

Opis:: Podstawowym celem artykułu jest ocena zachowań konsumenckich i stanu gospodarki odpadami komunalnymi z perspektywy gospodarstw domowych województwa śląskiego. Metodami badawczymi zastosowanymi w artykule są: analiza dostępnych danych i dokumentów w zakresie gospodarki odpadami komunalnymi w województwie śląskim oraz wyników własnych badań ankietowych. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań można zauważyć zmiany dotyczące wzorców postępowania z odpadami komunalnymi, np. wzrost liczby osób selekcjonujących, zmiany dotyczące sposobów postępowania z poszczególnymi grupami odpadów, takimi jak: opakowania z tworzyw sztucznych, pewne grupy odpadów niebezpiecznych. Stwierdzono jednak, że postęp ten nie dotyczy w takim samym stopniu wszystkich grup odpadów (np. bioodpady, niektóre odpady niebezpieczne, sprzęt elektroniczny i AGD), dlatego też konieczne jest zintensyfikowanie działań edukacyjnych w tym zakresie. Na podstawie badań stwierdzono także rosnące obciążenie gospodarstw domowych kosztami utylizacji odpadów.
The main aim of this article is to assess consumer behaviour and the state of municipal waste management from the perspective of households in Silesian Voivodeship. Research methods applied in the article is the analysis of the available data and documents in the field of municipal waste management in the province of Silesia and the results of Author’s surveys. Based on the survey we can notice changes in the ways of treatment of municipal waste such: increase in the number of people who select wastes, changes to the treatment of different groups of waste such as plastic packaging, some groups of hazardous waste. It was found, however, that progress does not apply in the same way in all waste groups (eg. bio wastes, some hazardous waste, electronic equipment and household appliances), therefore it is necessary to intensify the educational activities in this field. Based on the research also found growing burden of household waste disposal costs.

Opis:: Education for sustainable development consists of the related environmental, economical and social issues. Unfortunately, we can often observe the false tendency in separate treating of economic, social and environmental aspects of the sustainable development what results the lack of appropriate curricula in this area. The main shortcoming of education for sustainable development at the high education level is the lack of a primary course which presenting the basis of sustainable development. Similar conclusions refers to the University of Economics in Katowice. Education in this area haven't systemic character covering all kinds of study. A positive aspect of the educational offer proposed by the University of Economics is more and more to address issues related to sustainable development in the different courses, and thus the knowledge of the term sustainable development among students.
