This paper concerns the problem of young people on the labor market in Poland. People under 25 years, in accordance with the Act on employment promotion and labor market institutions dated. 20 April 2004, are one of the groups of people in a specific situation on the labor market. Therefore, this issue should be studied in theory and in practice. Intent of this article is describe the situation in the surveyed area. Because of that author presented statistics from the Central Statistical Office and the reports of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy. Author used many of literature, f. e., edited by Małgorzata Szylko-Skoczny pt. "Sytuacja młodzieży na rynku pracy w wybranych krajach Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej: raport z badań dla MOP". The article suggests that there is a problem with finding work for young people. This is mainly due to lack of experience, and to adapt to the conditions in the local labor market.

In the article there are presented findings of detailed analyses of dynamics one of basic parameters which characterize labour market, that is unemployment rate and long-term unemployment rate for the group new EU members. Analysis includes construction of trend function of aforesaid parameters and prognoses of their values for forthcoming years which are assigned by a several independent methods. Separate part of elaboration is estimation of influence parameters describing the labour market on basic economic and social processes.

In the labour market theory, the natural rate of unemployment is associated with the unemployment level, for which the market for purchasing power maintains a state of equilibrium. Full employment has become a crucial issue in contemporary debate, whilst the unemployment is considered a social problem. The following article will introduce a model for calculating the natural rate of unemployment in Poland, as well as its comparison with the real observed rate of unemployment, or the unemployment computed according to the BAEL method in context of the NAIRU theory (Non-Accelerating Inflation Rate of Unemployment). The article presents the results of an unemployment estimation based upon the main macroeconomic indicators for the Polish economy.

One of the biggest challenges in 21st century is the issue of unemployment which affects not only the national economy, but also has a huge impact on people themself and their families. Economy recession which occurred globally, led to decrease in the relative supply and demand for work. The most affected group is youth, who despite of their education, cannot find their right place in labour market. Solutions provided by European Union are meant to prevent in development of the "lost generation", explore and develop the capability buried in youth unemployment, encourage to mobility when it comes to work. The main goal of UE member states (including Poland) is to implement these strategies to all administrative regions across the country. Decrease of unemployment in youth group will be a flashpoint in growth of these countries (including Poland).

Labour markets in the Eurozone have not yet recovered from the global crisis that hit the world economy in late 2008. Across the Eurozone, the reduction of long-lasting unemployment is a priority for citizens and policymakers alike. The persistence of a large number of long-term unemployed persons over long periods of time generates huge social as well as economic costs in the Eurozone. We discuss about long-term unemployment in Euro countries over the period from 1995 to 2012. One of the characteristics of the recent recession (2008-2012) was the unprecedented rise in long-term unemployment in PIIGS countries in the Eurozone. The trend in long-term unemployment varied between "core" countries and PIIGS countries.

The article aims to discuss the relationship between economic growth and unemployment as well as related determinant factors based on literature review. The traditional approach presents this relationship through the prism of the effects of creation, capitalization, pool of savings and creative destruction. Nowadays, an increasing number of researchers attach more importance to the impact of institutional factors, such as minimum and efficiency wages or the flexibility of the labor market. Both theoretical and empirical research reveal both the evolution of the relevant views and the lack of consistency between the concepts explaining the relationship between economic growth and unemployment in different regions of the world and in different groups of countries.

Regions and other administrative division units have various labour market condition. In Poland, due to e.g. historical legacies, past investments, the structure of production, availability of resources, diversified productivity, peripheral location, the worst situation on a labour market is observed in regions of Eastern Poland. The aim of this article is to identify the impact of demand and supply unemployment rate fluctuactions in this particular area. Therefore, the changes in unemployment rates in years 2006-2012 were decomposed into two categories: (1) demand contribution and (2) supply contribution. The decomposition of changes in unemployment rate, carried out with the equation developed by Elsby, Hibijn and Sahin has led to the conclusion that dominant impact on changes of unemployment in regions of Eastern Poland and the economy as a whole had demand fluctuactions, which were subsequently (apart from supply factors) analysed in detail.

Aim/purpose – This study investigates the links between unemployment, poverty and economic growth in Nigeria between the periods, 1985-2015. Design/methodology/approach – The paper employed the Augment Dickey Fuller test for unit root test, Johansen cointegration for cointegration, Ganger causality for causality test and Error Correction Model to establish the short-run links between the variables. Findings – The unit root test result revealed that the variables trend with time indicating their failure of integration at level. However, they were found to be stationary at first difference. The causality result revealed that there is no causal relationship between unemployment, poverty and growth in Nigeria. Similarly, the cointegration results showed that there is no long-run relationship between unemployment, poverty and economic growth in Nigeria. The short-run parameter estimates indicated that unemployment has a negative and significant relationship with growth. However, the coefficient of the interaction between unemployment and poverty is positive and significant at the conventional level. Research implication/limitations – This study suggest that the output growth in the country will occur even if there are poor people as defined in absolute terms. The economy will still expand even if the number of poor people increases. This is also the case in the short run, revealing that the economy has grown even though over the years, the numbers of poor people have increased. Thus, there is a need for stable macroeconomic policies that would ensure equal distribution of income so that the poor also benefits from the country’s growth. Originality/value/contribution – This study empirically examines the contribution of output growth towards employment generation and poverty reduction using data sets from the Central Bank of Nigeria, National Bureau of Statistics and World Bank.

The aim of the paper is to analyse the scale and structure of long-term unemploy-ment in Poland in 2004-2013. The paper also attempts to answer the question which gro¬ups of people were most at risk of long-term unemployment. The conducted analyses have led to the following conclusions. In the analysed period, the number of long-term unemployed, the long-term unem-ployment rate and the percentage of long-term unemployed changed in the same direc-tion as the number of unemployed and the total unemployment rate. The following groups of people had the smallest share in the long-term unemploy¬ed pool in the analysed period: under 25 years old as well as 55 years old and older, with post-secondary education, secondary education and university education. The following groups had the greatest share in the long-term unemployed pool: aged 25-34 and from 45 to 55 years old, with vocational education. The econometric analyses show that unmarried people aged 55 or more with a low level of education were at the greatest risk of suffering long-term unemployment in the analysed period. Young people with higher education and secondary education were the least likely to be long-term unemployed.

Celem artykułu jest określenie poziomu i tendencji zmian sezonowości bezrobotnych na wielkomiejskich rynkach pracy w Polsce. Podstawą analizy były dane dotyczące liczby zarejestrowanych bezrobotnych w miastach powyżej 300 000 mieszkańców za okres od stycznia 2002 do grudnia 2013 r. Sezonowe składniki bezrobocia wyodrębniono algorytmem Census X-12 ARIMA. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują, że sezonowość bezrobocia w dużych miastach w Polsce jest niska, najniższą sezonowością charakteryzowała się Warszawa, a najwyższą aglomeracja trójmiejska. W latach 2002-2013 we wszystkich miastach nastąpił wzrost sezonowości bezrobocia. Poszczególne miasta charakteryzowały się bardzo podobnym rozkładem wahań sezonowych bezrobocia w trakcie roku. Przeprowadzone analizy wskazują, że wrażliwość zmiany liczby sezonowych bezrobotnych na zmiany całkowitej liczby bezrobotnych była większa w okresie spadku liczby bezrobotnych w latach 2002-2008. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują także na procykliczny charakter sezonowości bezrobocia.
The aim of this article was to determine the level and the tendency of the seasonal character of the unemployed in the urban labour markets in Poland. The analysis was based on the data concerning the number of the registered unemployed in cities with more than 300 000 inhabitants, between 2002 and 2013. Seasonal factors were distinguished by using Census X-12 ARIMA. The results indicate that the seasonal character of the unemployment in big Polish cities is low, the lowest one turned out to be for Warsaw, the highest for Tricity. The increase in the seasonal character of unemployment was noticed in all cities between 2002 -2013. These cities were characterized by a similar range of fluctuation concerning the seasonal character of unemployment during the year. The analysis indicates that the susceptibility of the change in the number of the seasonal unemployed to the change in the total number of the unemployed was higher in the period of the unemployment decline between 2002 and 2008. The results also prove the procyclical nature of the seasonal character of the unemployment.

Celem artykułu jest empiryczne badanie zależności między bezrobociem i ubóstwem a przestępczością w Polsce na poziomie województw. Wykorzystane zostały dane przekrojowe, szeregi czasowe oraz dane panelowe za lata 2002-2012. Uzyskane wyniki sugerują, że wzrost stopy bezrobocia, a także ubóstwa może prowadzić do wzrostu natężenia przestępstw (szczególnie przeciwko mieniu) na danym terenie. W badaniach zależności między przestępczością a bezrobociem uwzględniono pewne szczególne rodzaje bezrobocia mogące mieć kryminogenny charakter, jak bezrobocie długoterminowe czy bezrobocie wśród osób młodych posiadających niskie wykształcenie.
There is empirically verified impact of unemployment and poverty on crime in the voivodships of Poland. There is presented spatial variation of poverty and crime in the regions of Poland. It is noticed that voivodships with highest poverty rate are characterized by lowest property crime rate. Then there were used time series and panel data sets. Panel data analysis suggests that increasing unemployment or poverty rate may lead to increase of crime rate and victimization risk.

W artykule analizowane jest zagadnienie bezrobocia w Polsce, w ujęciu regionalnym – wojewódzkim i powiatowym, przy użyciu statystyk przestrzennych, które pozwalają na ocenę i porównanie zjawiska z uwzględnieniem przestrzennych powiązań. W rozważaniach wykorzystano globalne miary autokorelacji przestrzennej, jakimi są statystyka globalna I Morana i statystyka C Geary’ego. Umożliwiają one badanie podobieństwa i zróżnicowania obiektów położonych względem siebie w określonej odległości. Ponadto, zastosowano miarę lokalnej autokorelacji przestrzennej – statystykę Morana Ii, na podstawie której można wyodrębnić skupiska o niskich lub wysokich wartościach zmiennej.
The main purpose of the paper is to study the unemployment phenomenon using spatial approach. Many researchers are interested in analyzing the phenomenon which is settled on spatial localization. One of them is unemployment which can be considered on national scale, as well as on smaller one (voivodeships or counties). In these analyses very useful can be tools of spatial statistics and econometrics. The most popular tools are spatial autocorrelation statistics which show the dependencies of variables in respect of spatial localization. In the paper global I Moran, global C Geary and local Ii Moran statistics were used.

An unemployment is a key social-economic problem and its causes have a various character. A very important determinant of unemployment phenomenon on regional and local labour market seems to be a progressive process of economy globalisation that causes structural changes of an international trade. This situation has an unprofitable influence on regional and local economy in countries where is observed a fast rise of importation, decrease of labour participation in a trade or transferring a business activity abroad. The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EFG) was set up in 2006 as an instrument of a financial supporting to trade and regional labour markets in the EU member countries that were particularly offended by effects of global economy changes. Projects that are financed from this fund aim also a remission of negative influence of worldwide crisis 2008-2009 on labour market functioning. The polish regions such as Podkarpacie or Wielkopolska benefited from the EFGG funds. It is noticed that a procedure of financial supporting gain from EFG is very complicated and its simplification would contribute to rise of effectiveness of this instrument in regional labour markets activation.
