    Praca dotyczy aktualnych trendów i problemów badawczych z zakresu konkurencyjności międzynarodowej gospodarki. Przeprowadzona dyskusja uwzględniła różne stanowiska i koncepcje definicyjne tej kategorii tematycznej, w tym zarówno wyniki badań polskich ekonomistów, jak i naukowców z całego świata, oraz głosy krytyczne. Uzupełnieniem tych wielowymiarowych rozważań są zaprezentowane rozwiązania stosowane przez organizacje międzynarodowe, które od lat specjalizują się w badaniu tychże zjawisk.
    The article attempts to analyze current trends and research issues in the field of the international competitiveness of the economy. Conducted a discussion took into account the various positions and concepts definition of this category, including both the results of national surveys of economists and scientists of world fame, and critical voices. Supplement these considerations was the presentation of the solutions used by international organizations such as the World Economic Forum, International Institute for Management Development, the National Competitiveness Council, which for years specialized in the study of international competitiveness.

    Kwestia międzynarodowej konkurencyjności gospodarki jest jednym z priorytetów w ramach współczesnej polityki gospodarczej. Dyskusje naukowców na temat konkurencyjności gospodarek oraz czynników, które przyczyniają się do budowania lub osłabienia ich międzynarodowej pozycji, doprowadziły do powstania rankingów konkurencyjności publikowanych przez instytuty naukowe. Wspomniane rankingi nie tylko wskazują pozycję konkurencyjną krajów w skali globalnej, ale pozwalają również określić czynniki wspierające konkurencyjność danego kraju, jak też jej destymulanty. Celem artykułu jest prezentacja wyników analizy porównawczej zmian międzynarodowej konkurencyjności krajów bałtyckich w okresie ostatnich 10 lat. W tym celu zostanie wykorzystany schemat analityczny stosowany w raportach World Economic Forum.
    The issue of international competitiveness of the economy is one of the priorities in the context of contemporary economic policy. Scientific discussions on the subject of competitiveness of economies and the factors that contribute to strengthening or weakening their international position led to the emergence of competitiveness rankings published by the scientific institutes. Not only do these rankings indicate the competitive position of countries on a global scale, but they also allow of determining the factors supporting the competitiveness of the country, as well as its depressants. The purpose of this article is to conduct a comparative analysis of the changes in the international competitiveness of the Baltic Countries during the last 10 years. In order to achieve the purpose analytical scheme used in the reports of the World Economic Forum will be used.

    Labor market activity may have an effect on global economy competitiveness. This issue has been described as “labor market efficiency” (LME), which is a constituent of The Global Competitiveness Index published by The World Economic Forum (WEF). The article’s purpose is to clarify the phenomenon of LME and explain the mechanisms which help the constituents affect economy competitiveness. The structure of LME points at the meaning of labor market regime, especially after considering the fact that European Union countries operate within vari ous models of regime. The analysis of the LME diversity may help determine what type of labor market regimes are most efficient in enhancing economy competitiveness.

    Kryteria konwergencji, po raz pierwszy umieszczone w traktacie z Maastricht, stanowią zbiór wymogów, które powinna spełnić gospodarka państwa członkowskiego przed przystąpieniem do strefy euro. W wyniku problemów spowodowanych kryzysem 2008+ w wielu państwach członkowskich pojawiły się liczne kontrowersje związane z kryteriami konwergencji. Polska zobowiązała się do przyjęcia euro w momencie akcesji. Kryteria fiskalne bezpośrednio wpływają na kształt budżetu, a przez to - pośrednio - na gospodarkę, w tym konkurencyjność. Analiza wskaźników używanych w najpopularniejszych rankingach konkurencyjności pozwala zauważyć sfery bezpośrednio oraz pośrednio zależne od stopnia realizacji fiskalnych kryteriów konwergencji. Artykuł stanowi próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie o zależność pomiędzy wypełnieniem fiskalnych kryteriów konwergencji a poziomem konkurencyjności, z uwzględnieniem hamującej roli restrykcji budżetowych w sytuacji spowolnienia gospodarczego.
    The convergence criteria, which were for the first time introduced in the Maastricht Treaty, constitute a set of requirements that should be met by the economy of a Member State before its accession to the euro zone. As a result of the problems caused by the crisis 2008+ in various member-states, some controversy associated with the convergence criteria has arisen. Joining the European Union, Poland pledged to eventually adopt the euro. The fiscal criteria directly affect the shape of the national budget, and thus - indirectly - whole economy, including competitiveness. Analysis of the indicators used in the most popular rankings of competitiveness, allows to identify fields that depend, directly or indirectly, on the realization of fiscal convergence criteria. This article attempts to identify the relationship between fulfillment of fiscal convergence criteria and the level of competitiveness, taking into account inhibitory role of budgetary restrictions during economic slowdown.

    The paper presents the concept of network systems competitiveness evaluations. The aim of the paper is to draw the attention on the necessity of deepening analysis of new factors which are dedicated to assess competitiveness of modern business systems. The paper presents the concept of the synthetic measure for global business networks – creation of value added in coopetition networks. It is the project of multidimensional assessment of network systems with international multilevel competitiveness structures. In the paper is presented the own concept of indicator – to take into account the qualitative dimension of building international competitiveness based on available quantitative data.

    This article is dedicated to the economic mechanism of the dynamic sea port logistic (transport) cluster in the economy of the Odessa region. The need to transition to the new cluster structures and their implementation into the Ukrainian economy is caused by the high degree of efficiency, as well as the influence, which the ports and logistics businesses have on the economy of the country. In this paper, models of influence of transport and logistics companies in the form of cluster on the effectiveness of foreign economic activity of the Odessa region are associated with the State Enterprise "The Odessa Sea Commercial Port". The results can be used at sea ports, transport and logistics, and other industrial enterprises, as well as to create sea port dynamic clusters. Defined and described in the paper models and mechanisms are universal, so they can be used for the calculations to improve the efficiency of foreign economic activity in different regions.

    The competitive position of the economy is an important aspect of her perception from the perspective of investors. At the same time an increasing importance is being paid to the implementation of sustainable development (SD) as a response to the ongoing process of imbalance observed in the modern world economy. The analysis proves the lack of contradiction between the achievement of the goals of SD, understood as the attainment of desired levels of SD indicators and the competitive position of EU economies. It can also be concluded about the positive effects of the implementation of the SD on the achievement of a high competitive position, which in the long run should help reducing the scale of threats to the SD of the world economy.

    Problematyka stanowiąca główny obszar poruszanych zagadnień dotyka dwóch kwestii: tajemniczych mistrzów polskiej gospodarki oraz kryzysu finansowego ostatnich lat. Głównym celem niniejszego tekstu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, jak na kryzys reagują tajemniczy mistrzowie i czy podejmują podobne działania, jak inne „typowe” przedsiębiorstwa? Jego realizację oparto na wynikach badań empirycznych przeprowadzonych w 2010 r. w ramach projektu badawczego Ministerstwa Nauki i Szkolnictwa Wyższego nr N N115 008237 pt. „Niematerialne wartości źródłem ukrytej przewagi konkurencyjnej tajemniczych mistrzów polskiej gospodarki”, realizowanego w Wydziale Nauk Ekonomicznych i Zarządzania Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu.
    The problems discussed in the paper refer to two main issues: the hidden champions of the Polish economy and the financial crisis of recent years. The main objective of this paper is an attempt to find the answer on the question: how hidden champions react to the crisis and whether they take similar actions as the other “typicalˮ enterprises? Its realization was based on the empirical research conducted in 2010 as part of a research project of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education No. N N115 008237 Fri. “Intangible values as a source of the hidden competitive advantage of the Polish hidden championsˮ implemented in the Faculty of Economics and Management, Nicolas Copernicus University in Torun.

    Competitive neutrality is an important factor of the efficiency of mixed markets. Despite the general consent of the governments of OECD countries on the necessity to ensure a level playing field between private and public copanies on mixed markets, in practice, only a few of them take the operation of a complex. Moreover, across countries there are important differences in terms of scope and nature of the instruments used to ensure competitive neutrality. These differences have a negative impact on competition in global markets in terms of internationalization of public enterprises, and when these markets include public companies from countries that are not signatories of good practices on competitive neutrality.
