Opis:
Responsibility is a “core issue” in philosophy of law. “Responsibility” in a legal discourse refers primarily to formal sanctions or it expresses an idea of having to answer for something. I argue in the study that the legal responsibility can be attached to social roles (or even tasks), which are important to the functioning of the society. I try to elucidate the notions of a role (social role) and role-responsibility. This analysis leads to the conclusion that the role responsibility (the notion of the role-responsibility is derived from the Herbert Hart’s philosophical works) is largely constituted by inter-connected sets of rights, duties and responsibilities. Moreover, the role responsibility plays an important role in the law.

Opis:
Earning a living during the time of study is slowly becoming the norm in Polish reality. Economic activity is increasingly being added to student life and activity. There are many different motivations for earning a living. Most often it is the desire to improve one’s own economic situation. Increasingly, however, work is being undertaken by young people in order to gain professional experience that can be demonstrated in their efforts for better post-graduate work and CV placement. The main purpose of the article is to try to answer the question of whether and to what extent work during study influences the basic role and other social roles of a student. Empirical data achieved in course of research conducted among students of University of Zielona Góra in 2015.
Praca zarobkowa podczas studiów powoli staje się normą w polskiej rzeczywistości. W życie i aktywność studencką coraz częściej wpisana jest aktywność ekonomiczna. Różne są motywacje podejmowania pracy zarobkowej. Najczęściej jest to chęć poprawienia własnej sytuacji ekonomicznej. Coraz częściej jednak praca podejmowana jest przez młodych ludzi w celu uzyskania doświadczeń zawodowych, którymi można wykazać się w staraniach o lepszą pracę po studiach i umieścić je w CV. Głównym celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy i w jakim zakresie praca podczas studiów wpływa na podstawową rolę i inne role społeczne studenta. Dane empiryczne pochodzą z badań zrealizowanych wśród studentów Uniwersytetu Zielonogórskiego w 2015 roku.

The paper analyzes the role-making of an orchestral conductor. It is framed by the symbolic interactionist perspective and focuses on Ralph Turner’s role-making theory and the works of Alfred Schütz and Howard S. Becker and associates. The research project is based on grounded theory methodology. The applied techniques include semi-structured interviews, video-elicited interviews, observations of teaching conducting and opera rehearsals, video analysis, and secondary data analysis. The results reveal how the process of role-making is shaped during secondary socialization and indicate the social features of the role, such as high social prestige, awareness of the body, an exclusive social group, and teamwork. The role-making process is based on permanent interactions and negotiations with social actors: the composer and the musical score, the orchestra, soloists, ballet, and the audience. Additionally, it is influenced by cultural factors, such as the conductor’s gender, age, nationality and international experience, competencies, as well as the type of professional contract. At the same time, conductors need to actively maintain the image of determined and resolute individualists, as expected by the social actors they interact with.

Recent years in Poland have been characterized by the dynamic development of scientific activity among nurses. It might have been caused by several factors, namely: the rising needs and expectations of representatives of this professional group, the necessity of adjusting to EU standards, changes in the system of education, as well as the individual “research needs” of those representatives. However, is there a correlation between the increase in the quantity of scientific research and its quality? An attempt to answer that question led the author to formulate this paper’s goal, which had been formulated as follows: to analyse different sources of information concerning the reality of scientific research in nursing in Poland.

This paper asserts that the growing expansion of the micro realm of social activity calls for the exploration of everyday experience, seen as ranging from the most extraordinary to the most ordinary. The paper focuses on two constitutive features of the ordinary type of experience, namely, normality and boredom. It conceptualizes normality as an outcome of people’s potential to construct meaning of their ordinary experiences and boredom as a state signaling our inability to realize this desire. Both types of ordinary experience are in the core of everyday life and thus their consequences can be detrimental to the quality of social life. This paper’s discussion of normality and boredom includes both sociological and literary works where these two phenomena find their rich expression.

The aim of the article is to present widowhood as a way to attaining Christian perfection in Piotr Skarga’s Lives of the Saints. The work, addressed to all the representatives of the spheres of life in the 16th and 17th century Poland, includes selected role models of widows, e.g. St. Elizabeth of Hungary or St. Bridget of Sweden. The main components of the model under discussion are: intensive spiritual life, detachment from the world and its pleasures, avoiding further marriages, poverty and deeds of charity. In the construction of the perfect widow, Skarga follows the writings of St. Paul and the lives of the religious.

In-depth interviews with men teachers and other key personnel in early childhood education (ECE) revealed that the men are attempting to perform a type of subordinate masculinity that could challenge traditional gender relations. However, their attempts are thwarted by the gender regime embedded in the occupational structure, particularly the demand that they perform as “male role models” for the boys in their classes. This means that they are prescribed to perform in stereotypical ways and to purposely model traditional masculinity to boys, thereby inculcating hegemonic norms of masculinity.

The article is dedicated to studying communicative and pragmatic evidential constructions in newspaper political narrative. Based on the assumption that a communicative subject is represented as chain cooperation (“orderer” – editor – journalist – source – journalist), markers of evidentiality are matched with reference to the information about the events described on behalf of the source of relevant information. Correlation between an evidential discourse marker and an indication of the source of information in the narrative, as well as the possibility of indirect deictic reference to second-hand information with the help of modal verbs and lexical markers have been identified. Using evidential constructions in newspapers is determined pragmatically and connected with the narrator’s desire to distance him- or herself from unreliable or axiologically negative factors.

W funkcjonowaniu szkoły dostrzec można rodzajową polaryzację socjalizacji. Wyróżniliśmy trzy wymiary szkolnej socjalizacji: organizację i strukturę szkoły, wpływ nauczycieli oraz treści kształcenia. Wszystkie te czynniki, poczynając od organizacji szkolnej przestrzeni i struktury personelu, przez przekonania i oczekiwania nauczycieli, a kończąc na programie nauczania i zawartości podręczników, przekazują dzieciom hierarchiczną strukturę społeczeństwa, w którym mężczyźni zajmują wyższe i bardziej prestiżowe pozycje, w którym to, co „męskie” jest wyżej cenione niż to co „kobiece”, w którym obowiązują stereotypowe wizerunki kobiet i mężczyzn. Zadaniem powszechnego systemu edukacji jest stworzenie równych szans wszystkim dzieciom, postulat ten pozostaje jednak tylko życzeniem wobec licznych przyczyn nierówności dostępu do edukacji. Umacnianie przez szkołę stypizowanych płciowo postaw i wzorów zachowań przynosi w efekcie płciowo zróżnicowane edukacyjne szanse życiowe chłopców i dziewcząt. Propagowanie jedynego, „odpowiedniego” wzoru płci niesie negatywne konsekwencje tak dla dziewczynek, jak i dla chłopców. Dziewczynki tracą wiarę we własne możliwości i wybierają drogę życia „właściwą dla kobiet”, a nie odpowiadającą jej własnym aspiracjom. Natomiast dla chłopców, od których oczekuje się sukcesów, i którzy wzrastają w przekonaniu o nieograniczoności własnych możliwości, zderzenie z rzeczywistością: trudnościami w ukończeniu dobrej szkoły czy znalezieniu dobrze płatnej pracy (żywiciela rodziny) przynosi frustracje i zachowania dewiacyjne.

The object of the study was to explore a potential relationship between group roles (the dependent variable) and psychological gender and social competence (the independent variables). The research was made more specific by asking three cognitive questions (Does the prevalence of the researched with IPP and KKS qualities differentiate the questioned women in their group role preferences (t-student)? Are specific group roles dependent on psychological gender (ANOVA)? Is there the joint impact of individual personality variables on displaying group roles (analysis of regression). The research was carried out on year three psychology students of the University of Łódź. The study has resulted in discovering statistically significant differences between representatives of different types of psychological gender and their group role preferences. We have also discovered a different prevalence of variables defined as social competence depending on the adopted group role.

The article addresses the subject of text-based browser games belonging to the RPG genre. The characteristic feature of this game type is its social aspect and a greater level of immersion. Role-playing games have adapted to new technologies using the new media – the Internet and web browsers – as a gaming platform. Consequently, it has become possible to overcome the temporal and spatial barriers. The article examines a game session as the interactive negotiation of meaning, a phenomenon distinct from the fictional game time, and character creation as a form of creating public image.

Artykuł poświęcony jest problematyce kryzysu męskości widzianej oczami mężczyzn odbywających w przeszłości karę pozbawienia wolności. Specjaliści zwracają uwagę, że za kryzys męskości odpowiedzialny jest szereg nakładających się na siebie czynników, związanych z przemianami o charakterze społeczno-gospodarczym, które powodują, że pojęcie męskości – rozumianej w sposób tradycyjny – ulega stopniowemu zanikowi. W ich konsekwencji współczesny mężczyzna nie cieszy się już takim poczuciem bezpieczeństwa, np. na rynku pracy czy w rodzinie, jak dawniej. Zachwiana została bowiem jego pozycja jako głównego żywiciela i obrońcy interesów rodziny. Celem artykułu jest pokazanie, w jaki sposób owe tendencje kryzysowe odciskają się na postrzeganiu męskości przez mężczyzn odbywających w przeszłości karę pozbawienia wolności, kategorii osób z jednej strony szczególnie narażonych na problemy z realizacją podstawowych ról społecznych, w tym tradycyjnych ról męskich, z drugiej zaś pozostających pod wpływem silnie obecnego w podkulturze przestępczej kultu mężczyzny silnego, twardego i niezależnego. Podstawę analizy stanowią wywiady narracyjne z byłymi skazanymi przeprowadzone przez autora w 2011 r.

St. Dorothy of Caeserea Mazaca
Opis:
This article concerns the representation of two women: St. Dorothy, a martyr of Caeserea Mazaca, and Dorota Kątska, abbess of the Norbertines Order in the Zwierzyniec near Kraków, based on the sermon of the Bernadine Franciszek Sitański (ca. 1590–1643), entitled „The Bee in Amber” („Pszczółka w bursztynie”, Kraków 1627). The author shall prove that in the sermon given on the nameday of the Norbetine abbess, the preacher largely focused on St. Dorothy. The portraits of the „Christian women” present the virtues of the heroines to commemorate their deeds, as well as encourage the sermon’s recipients to follow the example of these virtues.

The analysis shows different ways of engaging the reader in the creation of a newspaper. Such engagement is the most pronounced in local press, where the bond between the newspaper and the target reader is naturally much stronger than in national media. The New Life of Pabianice has been in circulation for over 21 years and different forms of readers’ expression have been fostered on its pages. Among the traditional forms of readers’ verbalisation, there are: letters to the Editor, amateur poetic forms and pamphlets. As far as the new forms are concerned, the read-ers’ call-in columns are given prominence, together with the so-called citizen journalism. The new forms of readers’ expression, connected with the development of the Inter-net, exemplify the tendency among the readers to take over the role of a journalist. An opinion forming journalist is aided by the reader – a partner in discussion and the voice of the general public. Paradoxical as it may seem, it is indeed yet another symptom of the democratisation of the media and the society.
