In recent decades, sociologists have too often ignored the group level-the meso-level of analysis-in their emphasis on either the individual or the institution. This unfortunate absence misses much of what is central to a sociological analysis of community based on “action.” I draw upon Erving Goffman’s (1983) concept of the interaction order as I argue that a rigorous political sociology requires a focus on group cultures and tiny publics. Group dynamics, idiocultures, and interaction routines are central in creating social order. This approach to civic life draws from the pragmatism of John Dewey, as well as the broad tradition of symbolic interactionist theorists. Ultimately, I argue that a commitment to local action constitutes a commitment to a more extended social system.

Na wszystkich poziomach planowania przestrzennego, zagospodarowanie zmierza do osiągnięcia ładu przestrzennego. Oznacza on przede wszystkim uporządkowanie i harmonię pomiędzy różnymi składnikami i funkcjami przestrzeni. Łatwe do obserwacji zjawisko to jest bardzo trudne do zbadania. Celem artykułu jest wypracowanie metody pomiaru ładu przestrzennego w skali morfologicznej i fizjonomicznej oraz jej przetestowanie na przykładzie Piotrkowska Trybunalskiego. Wypracowana metoda nie tylko pozwala na badanie ładu w różnych skalach, ale pozwala porównywać wyniki dla różnych badanych przestrzeni. Jest to gotowe do stosowania narzędzie, które nie wymaga skomplikowanych procedur czy trudnych do pozyskania danych.
At all levels of spatial planning, development leads to achieve spatial order. First of all, it means ordering and harmony between various components and functions of space. An easily observable phenomenon is very difficult to study. The purpose of this article is to develop a method for measuring spatial order on a morphological and physiognomic scale. Other aim is test this method on the example of Piotrków Trybunalski. Except for examine spatial order in various scales, the prepared method allows to compare results for different examined spaces. It is a tool that does not require complicated procedures or difficult to obtain data.

Three variants of Kurt Gödel's ontological argument, proposed by Dana Scott, C. Anthony Anderson and Melvin Fitting, are encoded and rigorously assessed on the computer. In contrast to Scott's version of Gödel's argument the two variants contributed by Anderson and Fitting avoid modal collapse. Although they appear quite different on a cursory reading they are in fact closely related. This has been revealed in the computer-supported formal analysis presented in this article. Key to our formal analysis is the utilization of suitably adapted notions of (modal) ultrafilters, and a careful distinction between extensions and intensions of positive properties.

The relation between tourism and the spatial environment is characterized by mutual interaction. The proliferation of tourism and massive tourism development intensifies its impact on the spatial environment, yet the focus is usually placed on environmental degradation and the resulting distortion of spatial order. Concurrently, the significance of the spatial environment, and spatial order in particular, as one of the determinants of tourism development is understated. On a theoretical plane the relation seems obvious, yet once the practical dimension is considered, it becomes at least debatable.

The article refers to some aspects of the history of today’s Bulgarian and Romanian territories, going back to the end of the 12th and the beginning of the 13th century. First, the author emphasizes the impact of the Teutonic Order in Burzenland on Bulgarian-Cuman relations in the period under question. The article provides a different alternative viewpoint on the events of the second decade of the 13th century. Contrary to researchers who focus on the South and the Bulgarian-Latin conflict, the author seeks a solution to the problem by analyzing events in the North, reaching the lands of Burzenland region in Eastern Transylvania. He analyses the Teutonic-Cuman conflict of 1211–1222 and the success of the Teutons in Cumania after 1215. The author concludes that the dramatic change in the Bulgarian-Cuman relations could be explained by a new source of military and political influence that emerged in the second decade of the 13th century – the Teutonic Order. Next, the paper is aimed at the highly discussed and controversial issue of Bulgarian-Vlach relations during the rule of the Assenid dynasty. Based on the written sources, the author explains the mass presence of Vlachs in the actions of the first Assenids with specific social, economic and political factors in the last two decades of the 12th and the beginning of the 13th century.

The Constitution of the Czech Republic was approved on 16th december 1992. The regulation of the constitutional relations in the Czech Republic is includedin more constitutional laws, which are called in the Constitution in Article 112 „constitutional order“. Since 1993 the Constitution was changed 9, besides there were presented many other proposals of the constitutional laws for changes of the Constitution, which failed to approve.
Zmiany Konstytucji Republiki Czeskiej. Konstytucja Republiki Czeskiej została uchwalona 16 grudnia 1992 r. Regulacja stosunków konstytucyjnych w Republice Czeskiej jest również uregulowana w ustawach konstytucyjnych, które w art. 112 Konstytucji określane są jako część „porządku konstytucyjnego”. Od 1993 roku konstytucję nowelizowano dziewięciokrotnie, zgłoszono również wiele innych projektów ustaw konstytucyjnych dotyczących zmian w konstytucji, które jednak nie zostały uchwalone.

In this article, we extend Benedict Anderson’s notion of imagined communities to examine the idea of an “imagined engagement” between or among people and groups that have not met. These imagined engagements include a blurring of temporal lines, as one group “interacts” with another’s past, present, or future. Imagined engagements are a form of failed interaction, and, as such, have their place in Goffman’s interaction order. We argue that musical language can comprise a meeting point of these engagements. We then demonstrate how two composers-one historic and one contemporary-have used the musical cultures of an Othered people, with a focus on Indigenous America, in an attempt to create a sense of community and common ties between the West and these Others-a sense of community in which the Othered have no part.

While commercial images of “backpacking” emphasise adventure, youth and sightseeing, recent ethnographies of backpackers identify other motivations and rationales that accentuate travel experiences as formative of the self and identity. This raises the question of the basis of this apparently common orientation. This paper investigates, through analysis of postings on an electronic backpacker notice board, “backpacker” as a collaboratively constructed category. We propose that the shared understandings of “backpacker” enabled by these notice boards are consistent with cultural orientations captured in notions of cosmopolitanism (Beck 2000) involving a shift to new forms of sociality across borders: a solidarity with strangers.

The main purpose of the paper is to describe, diagnose and interpret mutual rela-tions between the idea of economic freedom and the sense of responsibility for the common good in modern societies functioning in the system of a free market economy. The starting point for the analysis is a reference to predominating scientific discourses and their appearance in the public sphere. These discourses also take up the problem of mutual relations between freedom and responsibility, including responsibility for the common good. One specific case of the relation between units and the widely understood common good, including units engaged in economic activity, is their relation to more operational public goods. Therefore, starting from conclusions based on a probing research concerning Polish society’s attitude towards public goods (which is an index of public morality), we will try to prove that an oversimpli-fied and highly ideological understanding of economic freedom can lead to a) perception of market activities’ results in strictly economic categories, b) atrophy of priority values for each society such as the sense of responsi-bility and common good. Therefore the main thesis of the paper can be seen as the following state-ment: for each economic organization to perform correctly, it must be socially embedded in a defined axio-normative order. Economic order is a part of social order while freedom, as the leading objective idea, cannot be treated either in purely scientific or ideological categories.

Financial inclusion refers to a state in which all working age adults have effective access to credit, savings, payments, and insurance from formal service providers. The aim of this paper is to introduce several indicators that show the level of financial inclusion in Poland. The indicators are calculated on the base of the data collected and compiled by the payment system statistics of the National Bank of Poland. We will also compare the value of the indicators for Poland to those of the other countries in database.
Integracja finansowa to stan, w którym wszyscy dorośli w wieku produkcyjnym mają dostęp do szerokiego zestawu usług sektora finansowego, takich jak: kredyty, oszczędności, opłaty oraz ubezpieczenia za pomocą pośredników świadczących usługi na tym rynku. Artykuł został poświęcony omówieniu dostępnych wskaźników integracji finansowej dla Polski. I to zarówno wskaźników indywidualnych, jak i syntetycznych. Dane do ich wyznaczenia są pobierane z systemów statystycznych banku centralnego; systemu płatniczego oraz bilansu płatniczego. Wartości wskaźnika służą do międzynarodowych porównań Polski pod względem dostępu do infrastruktury finansowej.

In the last three decades, mainstream economics has been influenced by authors associated with new institutional economics and new behavioral economics. The dispute over rationality as an assumption of economic theories is becoming particularly evident and is taking new forms. The aim of this article is to examine the connections between the institutional and behavioral approaches as well as between researchers’ ideas as to what rationality is and their beliefs regarding an optimal economic system. It will demonstrate that so-called behavioral and institutional economists have more in common than not. Institutions play a key role in the arguments of behavioural economists, whereas the argument of institutional economists is almost always based on the issue of human cognitive abilities and emotions. What directly links the two trends is the attention given to the rationality of actions that an individual takes as a premise of economic choices and as an assumption of economic theories. Differences in views relate to the understanding of rationality and exist within the framework of behavioral economics itself. At the core of the dispute is the distinction between two concepts of rationality: constructivist and ecological. This distinction serves as a starting point for the second matter discussed in the article. The author argues that the concept of constructivist rationality is related to the vision of the top-down creation of social order, while the proponents of the ecological approach to rationality stress the importance of market institutions. Interestingly, from the perspective of cognitive psychology and the heuristics of Daniel Kahneman, it can be presumed that the convictions of a scholar about the “ideal system” can influence his or her arguments on the essence of human rationality.

In the study the thesis is formulated concerning historical geography about the need of a turn into applicable issues. Potential research task of this discipline could be the spatial order shaping. The text discusses selected theoretical and methodological topics of historical geography, among others its essence, source and subject. Also the differences between geographical and historical traditions are indicated. The concept of spatial order, its problems and relation to the landscape idea are described in the context of historical geography. Conclusions refer to the possibility of applying the results of historical geography research in the process of spatial order shaping.
W opracowaniu sformułowano tezę o potrzebie zwrotu geografii historycznej ku zagadnieniom aplikacyjnym i wskazano ład przestrzenny jako potencjalne zadanie badawcze tej dyscypliny naukowej. W tekście omówione zostały wybrane zagadnienia teoretyczno-metodologiczne geografii historycznej, m.in. jej istota, źródła i przedmiot oraz różnice między tradycjami geograficzną a historyczną. W kontekście geografii historycznej omówiono pojęcie ładu przestrzennego, jego źródła i problemy, a także jego związek z ideą krajobrazu. Na zakończenie sformułowano wnioski dotyczące możliwości stosowania wyników badań geografii historycznej w procesie kształtowania ładu przestrzennego.

The analysis presented in this paper is part of the on-going discussion concerning the role and forms of teaching Polish word order to foreigners. Our remarks stem from the problems and difficulties we encountered while preparing a textbook designed for teaching word order during PFL lessons. The first part of the article concerns selected methodological and practical issues, such as the relationship between written/spoken language and the linear order of utterances, the meta-language used for describing word order rules, as well as the difficulties connected with interpreting a given linear order as (un)acceptable, neuter or stylistically marked. We have also stressed the impact of linguistic interference on creating certain word order patterns. The second part of the paper provides practical teaching solutions, referring to each of the problems presented above.
Artykuł stanowi głos w dyskusji nad rolą i kształtem procesu nauczania szyku w glottodydaktyce polonistycznej. Zawarte w nim uwagi inspirowane są pracą nad przygotowywanym podręcznikiem do nauczania szyku polszczyzny skierowanym do obcokrajowców. Część pierwsza przedstawia wybrane problemy metodologiczne i praktyczne dotyczące m.in. powiązania porządku linearnego z mówioną i pisaną odmianą języka, metajęzyka używanego w nauczaniu szyku, a także trudności z interpretowaniem poszczególnych układów linearnych jako poprawnych lub nieakceptowalnych, neutralnych lub stylistycznie nacechowanych. Podkreślono też rolę interferencji w procesie powstawania i interpretacji błędów szyku popełnianych przez obcokrajowców. Część druga odnosi się w sposób systematyczny do kwestii wymienionych wcześniej i przedstawia proponowane przez nas praktyczne rozwiązania poszczególnych problemów, możliwe do zastosowania w procesie dydaktycznym.
