    Opis:
    The paper presents the main trends in the development of seaside resorts worldwide and in Poland. Particular attention is called to the spatial aspects of this development. Based on their morphological differentiation, two forms of seaside resort in Poland can be distinguished: locations with a clearly heterogeneous spatial-functional structure, in which areas used for tourism are adjacent to others; and locations with a heterogeneous spatial-functional structure in which the tourism function is, to a certain extent, spatially isolated.

    The purpose of this article is to fill in the gap in knowledge about early academic work on tourism which had developed first of all in Europe. The author has tried to achieve this aim by conducting a retrospective analysis of chronological and institutional-methodological aspects of the evolution of tourism studies. As a result, he has distinguished two aspects (each divided into two): 1) chronological: a period of precursors and a formal academic period; 2) methodological: research within one discipline and interdisciplinary research. The results enabled the author to formulate general conclusions for critical discussion. It primarily concerns the domination of the English language and the Anglo-American tradition in the literature which is the reason why the global picture of achievements in tourism studies is incomplete and thus imperfect. The accomplishments of smaller, yet well-established, “national schools” are often ignored and remain almost unknown internationally. The author hopes that the article will be an encouragement to undertake research on early tourism studies in individual countries and to publish its results internationally as this will broaden knowledge of the origins of academic work in tourism.

    The article concerns theoretical positions on the influence of tourism on regional and local development. The adaptation possibilities of chosen regional development theories for the research needs of the tourism influence on regional development are presented. Four groups were analysed: 1) endogenous development theories 2) network development theories 3) economic base theories 4) polarisation theories. Using works based on these there has been an attempt to indicate the theoretical basis of tourism growth as a factor of regional development.

    Opis:
    Tourism has its functions and dysfunctions for the reception region. The purpose of the study is to state which of Polish regions can be characterized as the areas of sustainable tourism reception. To achieve the aim of the study the following hypothesis was put forward: voivodships of northern and southern Poland were the areas of sustainable tourism reception in 2015. The examination of the sustainable tourism should take into consideration both positive and negative influence of tourism on the environment and society; that is why the taxonomic measure of development was employed. The study included variables concerning tourism directly as well as those connected indirectly with its development in the given area. Regarding the substantive criteria of variables’ selection the author considered the state of the art in tourism and economic sciences. The conducted research indicated that some of regions in Poland can be recognized as the sustainable tourism reception regions.
    Celem artykułu jest określenie, na terenie których polskich województw turystyka najlepiej spełnia kryteria zrównoważonego rozwoju. Aby zrealizować cel badawczy, postawiono hipotezę, która brzmi: „Obszarami recepcji turystyki zrównoważonej w 2015 roku były województwa położone na północy i południu Polski”. Badanie turystyki zrównoważonej musi brać pod uwagę zarówno pozytywny, jak i negatywny wpływ tej gałęzi gospodarki na środowisko i społeczeństwo, dlatego aby zweryfikować hipotezę badawczą, zastosowano taksonomiczny miernik rozwoju. W badaniu uwzględniono zmienne stricte dotyczące turystyki oraz te związane pośrednio z jej rozwojem na danym terenie. W kwestii kryteriów merytorycznych doboru zmiennych brano pod uwagę stan wiedzy w obszarze nauk o turystyce i nauk ekonomicznych. Przeprowadzona analiza wykazała, że część polskich województw może zostać uznana za obszary recepcji turystyki zrównoważonej.

    Opis:
    Artykuł podejmuje problematykę przestrzeni turystycznej zarówno w ujęciu subiektywnym (indywidualnym, percepcyjnym), jak i obiektywnym (z punktu widzenia miejsca obszaru jej występowania). Omówiono także typy przestrzeni turystycznej ze względu na zajmowane terytorium oraz w układzie dynamicznym, traktując je jako możliwe fazy rozwoju ogólnej przestrzeni turystycznej. Efektem jest zaproponowany cykl rozwoju przestrzeni turystycznej. Ponadto scharakteryzowano rolę różnych grup „aktorów” przestrzeni turystycznej oraz determinanty jej organizacji i funkcjonowania. Zaproponowano również model postępowania badawczego zmierzającego do pełnej charakterystyki przestrzeni turystycznej.
    The author discusses the issue of tourism space both from a subjective (individual and perceptive) and an objective point of view (the place or area of occurrence). He also discusses types of tourism space as regards the territory they occupy as well as dynamically, as potential development phases for tourism space. As a result, he proposes a tourism space development cycle. In addition, the roles of different groups of tourism space 'actors' and the factors determining organizaUon and functioning of tourism space are described. The author further proposes a model research procedure aiming at a full description of tourism space.
