The purpose of this article is to present the impact of elaborated the theoretical concept of companies’ groups and the related concepts of consolidating financial statements adopted by the international accounting regulations (IFRS) for the items and the value of the capital, reported in the financial statements. This effect was analyzed on example of selected Polish public companies listed on Warsaw Stock Exchange. Consolidated reporting concepts, developed at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries implemented in accounting regulations differently affect the level of equity of capital groups, presented in the consolidated financial statements. Their example shows a clear trend in the transition from the proprietary concept to the entity concept, which corresponds to the general orientation of financial reporting from the perspective of the owners to the perspective of the stakeholders. The extended concept of the parent company used in the regulations of IFRS to the end of 2009, but mixed with the entity concept has shown, that the equity of capital groups include themselves both equity, attributed to the shareholders of the parent companies, but also assigned to the other shareholders of the subsidiaries (minorities). Only from 2010 there is a possibility of alternative uses of the pure entity concept, which contributes, in principle, to be even higher amounts of capital in the same operating conditions. In the present situation of possible parallel application of both concepts, the managements of the companies may recruit them at its own discretion, which may contribute to some manipulation on reported equity of capital groups, what examples already can be observed in practice of Polish companies. Analysis of financial data of certain Polish groups did not allow to formulate certain general conclusions, regarding the impact of an extended parent company concept on the level of equities of the Polish groups. In many cases, the impact of the controlled entities positively affected the reserves of the group, but many situations can also be observed in which the activities of subsidiaries was weakening the group's reserves. In such situations separate financial statements of the parent are more favourable to the data presented in the consolidated. However, this may confirm the supremacy of the consolidated reporting on the separate reporting, which is characterized by a greater sensitivity to operational and financial operations of the parent in relation to their subsidiaries. In the case of consolidated reporting, the manipulation of transactions with controlled entities is largely neutralized by what more relevantly and objectively (neutrally) contributes to the evaluation of the effectiveness of the boards of the parent companies.

The article surveys the concepts of ‘freedom’ (“svoboda”) in contemporary Russian poetry and points out that there is no single understanding of it but a whole complex of approaches. While the concept of “svoboda” seems to have been absorbed by the bigger and therefore less concrete one, “volya”, a certain evolution of the former notion can be observed as well. At the beginning of the 20th century ‘freedom’ was associated with a heroic attitude, during the Thaw it became a term for a collective domestic separation, after perestroika and glasnost the poets started to look for freedom as individuals, having nothing or very little in common with the society. Over the last years a new kind of inner emigration has been evolving, combined with a tendency towards ostentatious indifference to ‘traditional’ values.

Following Niklas Luhmann, the author assumes that communication creates social systems. The system therefore influences the nature of communication. The impact of rhetoric on media discourse can be understood as a result of the strategy adopted by the system. What follows from the above assumption is a discussion of the notion of truth which is fundamental to media philosophy. Systems, in their adopted strategies, affect the media and use persuasion in a way that is remote from the treatment of the truth as an idea or as a condition of an ethical nature.

The phenomenon of death since the beginning of time has brought about fear as well as curiosity. The article presents the cultural aspects of the perception of the phenomenon of death. They refer to the old superstitions, customs, traditions. As linguistic data confirm, many of them are reflected in the language. The concept of death in Russian phraseology refers to the Christian concept of the binary nature of a human being (consisting of the soul and the body), to pagan legends and beliefs. It is mostly characterized by the themes such as the end, road, dream.

The originality of the subject is the usage of the category of a concept as a conceptual metaphor which is an attempt to approach the reality and a part of the author’s vision of the world. In the article the author actualizes semantic gradations of concept being in the lyrics of Alexander Kushner. The analysis shows that this concept is realized in different images and motifs, becoming the dominant of Kushner’s poetics. The semantic field of the concept includes such meanings as things/objects of the surrounding world, the artifacts of culture, (everyday) life.

The current generation paving the path for new research marks a milestone to attain the ancient goal of improving our cognition. To date, increased prevalence of cognitive enhancers by healthy people has raised the scientific community’s attention as well as media coverage. In particular, nootropics such as piracetam promise to offer modest improvements in cognitive performance. The long-lasting impetus of this “holistic enhancer” convinced scientists as well as ethicists to discuss its potential ethical implications and future directions. Moreover, there are discrepancies in the concept of a true nootropic between pharmacology and contemporary public culture. Here, I review the ethical aspects of nootropics raised by its potential use in cognition enhancement and substantiate the epistemological commentary on the concept of nootropic.

This paper uses communicative-pragmatic analysis and a corpus-based method to investigate multidimensional axiological interpretation of Europäische Identität notion as a unifying political concept. The study focuses on European identity discourse as presented in German mass media. The study shows strategic relevance of the concept and its unifying potential both within the EU framework, and in wider European domain. The analysis reveals that primary and secondary collocators actualized with the notion convey both the topicality and inconsistency of the concept. Moreover, the results show that identity and personal / collective self-determination discourse is characterized by polemic nature and various evaluations that predominantly feature the tactics of doubt and mistrust to the unifying potential of European identity concept.

The article refers to the Good Friday sermon („Raj niebieski na ziemi, potopem złości i okrucieństwa żydowskiego zniesiony […]”, 1655) of baroque preacher, Mikołaj Szomowski. The paper shows the methods of the descriptions the Passion. Two crucial issues are a „conceptus” and an „amplificatio”. The idea is taken from principal biblical metaphor — flood. It dominates the whole sermon. Amplification (mainly „congeries” oraz „incrementum”) takes place on the two planes —„res” and „verba”.

Объектом анализа в статье является концептуализация учителя в творчестве Ивана Вазова. В произведениях, воскрешающих эпоху Возрождения ХІХ века и национально-освободительной борьбы против османского рабства, открываем идею высокой миссии учителя как просветителя народа, знаковое превращение учителя в революционера, но и примеры зависимой позиции учителя в социуме. Особое внимание уделяется образу учителя в романе „Казаларская царица”, в котором идея позитивизма (народничества) о скромном, упорном труде учителя для культурного развития общества сочетается с элементами утопического дискурса. На основе наблюдений над интерпретацией темы учителя в творчестве Вазова приходим к выводам о роли писателя в конструировании концепта учитель в болгарской культуре.
The subject of the present analysis is the conceptualisation of the figure of the teacher in Ivan Vazov’s works. Evoking the epoch of Bulgarian National Revival and the 19th-century struggle against the Ottoman yoke, his books convey the idea of the teacher’s high mission as people’s enlightener, show the transformation of the teacher into a revolutionary, but also give examples of injustice suffered by the teacher from public authorities. In the paper, particular attention is paid to the image of the teacher in Vazov’s novel “Kazalarskaya tsaritsa” (“The Empress of Kazalar”), where the utilitarian idea of modest, persistent teaching work for the cultural development of the people blends with elements of utopian discourse. On the basis of these observations a conclusion is formulated about Vazov’s role in constructing the concept of the teacher in Bulgarian culture.

The purpose of this article is an attempt to characterize the category of corporeality in the poetry by Vera Pavlova and to identify its sources. The analysis shows that this category is realized in different images and motifs, becoming the dominant poetics. In her works, the carnality is not limited to describing the man but it turns out to be an important, universal code that allows you to see the world in terms of unity and organicity. In this respect, Pavlova’s aesthetic exploration resembles the acmeist and – more distant – an ancient tradition.

St. Dorothy of Caeserea Mazaca
Opis:
This article concerns the representation of two women: St. Dorothy, a martyr of Caeserea Mazaca, and Dorota Kątska, abbess of the Norbertines Order in the Zwierzyniec near Kraków, based on the sermon of the Bernadine Franciszek Sitański (ca. 1590–1643), entitled „The Bee in Amber” („Pszczółka w bursztynie”, Kraków 1627). The author shall prove that in the sermon given on the nameday of the Norbetine abbess, the preacher largely focused on St. Dorothy. The portraits of the „Christian women” present the virtues of the heroines to commemorate their deeds, as well as encourage the sermon’s recipients to follow the example of these virtues.

Both teacher and student agency have been discussed and researched for quite some time in different learning contexts. Here, I will present a general framework for pedagogical practices that enhance translator education by promoting student agency defined as the process through which learners become capable of strategic actions which form the basis for autonomy and confidence in their own proficiency and effectiveness. I will suggest how student agency and collaborative and situated learning can interact to provide students with professional and relational skills that set the basis for the development of autonomous strategic learning. This combined approach involves the acceptance and use of planned and spontaneous learning opportunities embedded in contextualised activities, tasks, and projects. Some practical examples will illustrate the main points.
