The paper dwells on the various aspects of lie as one of the «faces» of ingenuine speech behavior. It further attempts to conceive the basic structural modifications of lie on the basis of the linguistic markers typical to this phenomenon in Russian and Bulgarian linguoculture. The classification of the linguistic exponents of the phenomenon forms the communicative behavior of the sender with respect to the realization of his/her communicative intention. The paper also discusses its variants such as slander, appraisal, compliment, disorientation, mystification and others. Specific national stereotypes in the interpretation of the phenomenon are also presented in the article.

This article considers the extent that new forms of communication technologies developed in the last half century have contributed to new forms of sexual and romantic relationships flourishing among early adults in the United States. This project pays particular attention to the implications of that during the 2020 pandemic lockdowns and the increased dependency on technology that followed. This empirical work uses the theoretical framework provided by the scholarship of George Ritzer (2004), which focuses on the social narratives that drive labor into increasingly rational and functionalist operations, which he terms McDonaldization. This project uses interview data collected from college students to explore attitudes and social forms related to casual sex and the development of serious romantic relationships among participants. In an analysis of the data, three key trends have emerged that can be understood within Ritzer’s theoretical frame. Research participants utilize and value technologies within their intimate relationships as information filters that provide efficiency in creating relationships. They also demonstrate the use of technological, organizational, and connective tools as means to control relationships. Finally, technological tools and symbols signal a kind of semi-standardized symbol of commitment to the relationship, though the meaning of these signs is still contested.

While gender-based differences in consumer behavior have been previously investigated within the context of gender-neutral or unisex retailers, men’s behavior in women’s retailers remains largely unexplored. Furthermore, most studies frame the retail environment as a passive platform through which essential gender differences yield setting-specific bifurcated behavior, and do not address the role the commercial establishment and men’s shopping habits play in gender identity formation and maintenance. To address this gap, we analyzed men’s behavior in women’s retailers using interactionist and social constructionist theories of sex/gender. Data were collected through non-participatory observation at a series of large, enclosed shopping malls in South-Western Ontario, Canada and analyzed thematically. We found that men tend to actively avoid women’s retailers or commercial spaces that connote femininity, while those who enter said spaces display passivity, aloofness, or reticence. We suggest the dominant cultural milieu that constitute hegemonic masculinity- disaffiliation with femininity, an accentuation of heterosexuality, and a prioritization of homosocial engagement-nform the dialectical relationship between individual and institutional gender practice that manifests through consumption.

Companies, especially life insurers, operating under competitive conditions need loyal clients. A very important techniques used for building loyalty is appropriate communication between the insured and insurer. The article presents different kinds of communication between the insurance contract parties and some factors influencing that. The main aim of conducted analysis was to answer the question how important is the exchange of information between insurer and insured/policy holder to continue the insurance contract, building loyalty with insurers’ clients.

The purpose of the article. This paper attempts to reveal the effect of the study by visually presenting the analysis of the studies on the concept of "financial literacy". Methodology. Bibliometric analysis of the studies published in the Web of Science (WOS) database between 1991 and 2023 was analyzed with the VOSviewer (Version 1.6.9) package program. Since the title, content, and keyword of the concept of "financial literacy" were intended to be scanned in all languages and all publication types, 2,889 works were accessed and analyzed. The limitations of the study are that only the studies in WOS are analyzed. No data from Scopus and PubMed databases has been included. For future studies, research from the Scopus and PubMed databases should be added. Results of the research. When the most frequently included keywords in the publications related to the concept of "financial literacy" have a relationship between them at least twice in the study, the keywords "financial literacy" with 825 repetitions in terms of 1841 total connection strength, "financial education" with 111 repetitions in terms of 315 total connection strength, "financial behavior" with 65 repetitions in terms of 217 total connection strength and "financial knowledge" with 71 repetitions in terms of 213 total connection power are seen. As a result of the analysis performed, it was determined that there were 2265 connection powers and 4069 total connection powers for a total of 36 clusters. When we look at the year-by-year distribution, the most works were published in 2022 with a maximum of 426 works. At least one work was published in 2004, 2003, 1998, 1994 and 1991. Among the published studies, journal article 2,515, proceedings paper 280, early access 135, book chapters 101, review article 68, editorial material 29, correction 6, book 5, book review 3 were determined as works. When we look at the languages in which the published works are published, they are in English with a maximum of 2,814 works. At least two works are in French and Chinese. In order to determine the year-based stratification status of the published studies for country-based citations, it was noted that a country should have at least 1 study published and at least 1 citation obtained. As a result of the analysis, analysis was carried out on 78 observation units that were found to have a relationship between them, and it was determined that there were 14 clusters, 1065 connection power and 9417 total connection power. The countries with the most citations are the USA (11981 citations), the Netherlands (2445 citations) and England (1685 citations). In terms of the number of works, the ranking is the USA (197 publications), China (77 publications), India (73 publications), and Australia (70 publications). When the stratification status of the citation ties of the countries on a yearly basis is examined, it is seen that they are limited between 2017 and 2021.

As is well known, ignoring spatial heterogeneity leads to biased parameter estimates, while omitting the spatial lag of a dependent variable results in biasness and inconsistency (Anselin, 1988). However, the common approach to analysing households’ expenditures is to ignore the potential spatial effects and social dependence. In light of this, the aim of this paper is to examine the consequences of omitting the spatial effects as well as social dependence in households’ expenditures. We use the Household Budget Survey microdata for the year 2011 from which we took households’ expenditures for fruits and vegetables. The effect of ignoring spatial effects and/or social dependence is analysed using four different models obtained by imposing restrictions on the core parameters of the hierarchical spatial autoregressive model (HSAR). Finally, we estimate the HSAR model to demonstrate the existence of spatial effects and social dependence. We find the omitted elements of the external environment affect negatively the estimates for other spatial (social) effect parameters. Especially, we notice the overestimation of the random effect variance when the social dependence is omitted and the overestimation of the social interaction effect when the spatial heterogeneity is ignored.

Drawing on in-depth interviews with recreational gamblers (N=67), the paper focuses on superstitious beliefs and practices used by players of various games to influence or control outcomes. The study was conducted in the spirit of the interpretative approach formed by folklorist Alain Dundes (1961). Results suggested that superstition, in a variety of forms – signs, magic, conversion – was clearly an accepted part of gambling for most respondents. Although more pronounced in games of chance, superstition appeared to be more significant in the experience of interviewees who played skill games, creating “illusion of control.” Future research on the link between superstition and religion, and on the role of social networks in fostering and developing superstition-related knowledge is warranted.

We find ourselves in times where national leaders engage in fraudulent and deceptive behaviors for personal and political gains, and multinational corporations use unethical practices to maximize their profits. Where dangerously defective products are released onto the market endangering the health and lives of consumers, and where news channels become opinion channels. Where the motto of the free market is reduced to a simple‘grab all you can, any way you can.’ In times such as these, it is difficult to teach and promote ethical behavior. A cursory look at the advertising messages and the spins put on issues by public relations people leaves one wondering if business ethics is anything more than an oxymoron – a self‑contradicting claim. In times such as ours (in 2017), it is crucial that institutions of higher learning continue to teach and foster ethical behavior and ethical responsibility. No doubt, it is an uphill struggle for educators to convince students to think and act in ethically appropriate terms when surrounded by corruption, deceit, and fraud. While no one will deny the need for ethical practices, teaching these values in a convincing manner remains a challenge. Using meta‑analysis of various University courses in ethics, the present paper attempts three goals. First, it builds a rationale for the importance of ethical behavior, the need for teaching it, and the criticisms of those who think it unnecessary to teach ethics. Second, it discusses various strategies used by universities and several educators in teaching and reinforcing ethical behavior. This section also offers a criticism of approaches and methodologies of teaching ethics. Third, it offers an outline for a syllabus for an introductory course in Ethics.

Cognitive behavior theories are among the youngest paradigms in clinical psychology. They are subjected to constant modifi cations, which raises a lot of misunderstandings and misinterpretations. Some authors argue that this concept is inconsistent and personality traits recede into the background. They claim that cognitive theory is more the psychology of behavior, cognitive processes and structures than the psychology of human being (Sęk, 2005). The history of cognitive ideas development allows us to understand their assumptions, their current place in psychopathology, and the current state of knowledge. The division into the so-called three “waves” of the cognitive behavior theories renders it possible to separate stereotypes about this theory from its proper image. The article describes the current state of the cognitive behavior theories, with account given to the latest generation, which includes: Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as well as Schema Focused Therapy (SFT).
Teorie poznawczo-behawioralne są jednymi z najmłodszych koncepcji w psychologii klinicznej. Ulegają one ciągłym przemianom, co rodzi wiele nieporozumień i błędnych interpretacji. Niektórzy autorzy uważają, że jest to koncepcja „mało spójna”, a kwestie osobowości schodzą na dalszy plan, „gdyż jest to bardziej psychologia zachowań, procesów i struktur poznawczych niż psychologia człowieka” (Sęk, 2005, s. 106). Historia rozwoju koncepcji poznawczych pozwala zrozumieć jej założenia, aktualne miejsce w psychopatologii oraz obecny stan wiedzy. Podział na tzw. trzy generacje koncepcji poznawczo-behawioralnych pozwala oddzielić stereotypy dotyczące tej koncepcji od jej właściwego obrazu. W artykule opisano aktualny stan teorii poznawczych z uwzględnieniem najnowszej generacji koncepcji poznawczo-behawioralnych, obejmujących: terapię poznawczą opartą na uważności (MBCT), terapię akceptacji i zaangażowania (ACT), jak również terapię schematów (SFT).

Decisions made by predators during predatory encounters are often based on multiple factors that may influence the outcome of the encounters. For stalking predators their visibility to the prey and the ability of their prey to escape may be important factors influencing predatory success. Hence they are likely to adapt their predatory behavior when approaching prey on backgrounds with different camouflaging properties, but only if the prey is able to escape. To test whether jumping spiders flexibly adapt their predatory behavior to camouflaging properties of the background and prey type, the behavior of Yllenus arenarius (Araneae, Salticide), a cryptically colored jumping spider hunting leafhoppers (high escape potential) and caterpillars (low escape potential) on two types of background: matching and non-matching for the spiders was analyzed. Background color had a significant effect on the spiders’ jumping distance and their predatory success, but only if the prey had a high escape potential. No differences occurred between backgrounds if the prey could not escape. On camouflaging background the spiders attacked leafhoppers from a shorter distance and had a higher success than on non-camouflaging background.

Helping behavior can be triggered by complex motivators, a number of them self-related. Investigation of this issue can foster a better understanding of such current social phenomena as volunteerism within the context of intensive migration in Europe. The research presented here focuses on individuals who applied for volunteer positions in the Registration and Reception Centers for Refugees in Bulgaria. Document analysis was conducted concerning 128 applications for participation in an ongoing volunteer project during the period 2013-2016. The explicit motivations of candidates indicate that groups of motives related to self-enhancement are among the key triggers for volunteers. These include a desire to foster social change and the effort to develop a positive self-image, both of which are associated with the role of volunteer.

The popularisation of drawing up codes that are addressed to various social groups is one of the features of the modern world. However, researchers of the phenomenon have not yet reached a consensus about the moral validity and utility of this activity. The article thoroughly reviews the Polish literature on the subject with regard to the reasons for taking a moderate stance on the codification of ethical standards. The essay describes the main concepts of ethical codes as well as arguments for their approval and rejection. Attention is drawn to the ways of improving the effectiveness of codes and to the ethical decision-making procedure that reconciles the positions of the supporters and opponents of codification.

The purpose of the article/hypothesis: The aim of this work is to delve into the significance of trust in the phenomenon of tax compliance. Specifically, the relationship between taxpayers’ trust in the Government, administrations and institutions and their reported disposition towards tax compliance is explored based on the case of Spain and at regional level (NUTS2). Methodology: Using 2017 data collected by the European Values Study (EVS) and the Quality of Government Institute at the University of Gothenburg (QoG), a multilevel linear model is proposed where we assess the impact of citizen support for the Government and institutions on the disposition towards tax compliance. This model allows to simultaneously capture the relationships at taxpayer level and the effects of regional factors in the same equation. Results of the research: The results of the multilevel estimation allow the authors to reject the null hypothesis and accept, at least provisionally, the existence of a direct effect of trust in the institutions on tax compliance at regional level. Additionally, the low significance observed in the regional level variables suggests that citizens have non-decentralized perception of tax obligations. Furthermore, given that the effects are measured in terms of the quality of the institutions and government, the implications for regional policy and the actions of regional governments are of significant interest for the study of tax behavior and compliance.

Konsumenci chcąc ustrzec się przed stratami wynikającymi z nieprzewidzianych zdarzeń losowych, decydują się na zakup ubezpieczenia. Uznaje się, że podejmowane przez nich decyzje często noszą znamiona irracjonalnych. Celem badania było określenie znaczenia przypisywanego przez konsumentów najważniejszym kryteriom decydującym o wyborze ubezpieczenia. Badanie przeprowadzono metodą sondażu diagnostycznego z wykorzystaniem techniki CAWI w styczniu 2020 roku na grupie 150 osób. Wyniki wykazały, że najważniejszymi czynnikami jakimi przy wyborze ubezpieczenia kierują się konsumenci są: cena, atrakcyjność oferty oraz warunki umowy.
Consumers wanting to guard against losses resulting from unforeseen random events, decide to buy insurance. It is recognized that their decisions are often irrational. The aim of the study was to determine the importance attributed by consumers to the most important criteria when choosing insurance. The study was conducted by means of a diagnostic survey using the CAWI technique in January 2020 on a group of 150 people. The results showed that the most important factors which consumers are guided by when choosing their insurance are: price, attractiveness of the offer and terms of the contract.
