Modern industry confronts engineers completely new challenges. Technical skills in the light of the ongoing changes are no longer the only criterion for the effective work of engineers. On the other hand, engineers clearly show the need for development and taking new challenges. The need for a comprehensive acquisition of competences in both technical and psychosocial areas is increasingly expressed. Paper presents a model of employee competences essential for the future of enterprises operating in the Industry 4.0, which was created with using the Value Engineering methodology.

Opis:
The introduction of solutions conventionally called Industry 4.0 to the industry resulted in the need to make many changes in the traditional procedures of industrial data analysis based on the DOE (Design of Experiments) methodology. The increase in the number of controlled and observed factors considered, the intensity of the data stream and the size of the analyzed datasets revealed the shortcomings of the existing procedures. Modifying procedures by adapting Big Data solutions and data-driven methods is becoming an increasingly pressing need. The article presents the current methods of DOE, considers the existing problems caused by the introduction of mass automation and data integration under Industry 4.0, and indicates the most promising areas in which to look for possible problem solutions.

The emerging era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution brings significant changes mainly in the sphere of development and widespread utilization of new technologies. The application of mentioned technological innovations can be found in all economy spheres, however the effectiveness of their implementation is the key to ensuring the businesses competitiveness. The authors analyse the current but also expected state of key managerial competencies as well as their application needed to maintain competitiveness in the emerging era of Industrial Revolution in businesses operating in Slovakia. The research was conducted by the questionnaire method in 1,077 companies, during the year 2020. The results of the survey show an above-average use of almost all assessed competencies as well as positive prognosis for the future, as the perception of their need of future application is even at a higher level than the present state shows.

Opis:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) supports project management in industry projects increasingly more often. The article documents research results regarding the use of AI in Industry 4.0 projects. The aim of the article is to define the range of AI use in Industry 4.0 projects throughout their entire life cycle and to indentify the main stages of AI development in project management. Additionally, the article indicates the main barriers to AI use in project management identified in the studied projects. In order to identify and systemise the range of AI use, the Conceptual Framework of Using AI in Project Management presented in literature is applied. Research results indicate that we are in the early stages of AI use in projects. The studied projects use AI mainly in project administration, i.e. to complete the following tasks: simple automation of routine activities, support, and, to a very limited extent, in the area of project management, i.e. in identifying anomalies and predicting the phenomena where the anomalies will occur. The research uses the case study method, where four projects were studied: an ERP system upgrade, an implementation of an IT system supporting high-bay warehouse management, an implementation of an IoT as a data-collection sensor platform and an E-learning platform implementation. The study was conducted between 2019 and 2021, and covered the entire project life cycle, including its three stages, i.e. preparation, implementation and operation.

Opis:
Building a strong economy depends on numerous factors: technological, political, geographical but also and above all social ones. Currently, the ongoing fourth industrial revolution is primarily based on digitization of all processes in the conducted activities. The acquisition and processing of vast amount of data generates information which is very complex and not always unambiguous. Industry 4.0 also assumes that employees will understand both technical needs and those not related to the production process. This means that the present education system (definitely the one related to technical science) should also be changed so that engineers acquire more managerial skills. The article presents the educational assumptions in the face of challenges posed by Industry 4.0 in the context of the current opportunities of the labor market and education in Poland and in Europe.

Opis:
Industry 4.0 is an era in which the manufacturing industry has adopted digital technologies and the Internet to enable smart manufacturing system, machines used in the production now can communicate with each other and exchange information between each other, and the machinery used in the manufacturing process is more modern and precise. Therefore, educational institutions should develop the curriculum to produce qualified graduates with the knowledge required for the Industry 4.0 era, especially Industrial Engineering graduates who are directly related to the industry sector. The purpose of this research is to collect the data for the Master of Industrial Engineering (MSIE) curriculum development. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique is used to rank the indicators of knowledge that is important to the employment of graduates with a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, and study the gap between the expectations of employers and the ability of the current MSIE students of Khon Kaen University. The results of the study reveal that the first indicators that are most important to the employment of MSIE graduates is the knowledge of Industry 4.0 strategy and the knowledge that the students should have developed are the collaboration of humans and robots, big data analytics, real time data usage and databased decision making.

Industry 4.0, in the context of revolution, relates to changes in the industry but actually it does not begin or end with it. The most important in the whole process of digitization and intelligent solutions is the human factor. In fact, everything begins with it: design, creation, service and everything ends: implementation, interpretation of results, improvement through previous experiences. Therefore, what should the employee that will meet the challenges of the industrial revolution 4.0 be like? The objective of the paper is to create the profile of the employee 4.0 who, in the education process, uses learning methods and teaching concepts so that they could satisfy the requirements set by the revolutionized economy. The reference point will be the use of the research conducted by the consortium members under the project of MSIE-CBHE, which is Erasmus+Curriculum Development of Master’s Degree Program in Industrial Engineering for Thailand Sustainable Smart Industry (MSIE4.0) funded by the European Commission the authors of the publication also belong to.

Ongoing progress in the introduction of new technologies, rapid social adaptation to the fourth industrial revolution, implementation of new solutions related to information and communication become incentives to conduct interdisciplinary scientific analyses. The following paper is a review article and the presented analysis to a large extent is based on theoretical considerations referring to studies of other authors. Presenting the sources of this notion in the context of industry 4.0 and sustainable development is a foundation for possible further experimental research. However, the primary aim of this article is to demonstrate the sources of scientific interest in artificial intelligence, directions of research on this notion and potential sociological research areas related to AI. Another goal of this article is to indicate the implications that can be used in planned research projects. The scope of the analysis is largely based on the study of literature.
