Consumer approach of people caused that the high use of many natural resources exceeded the possibilities of reconstruction of our planet. These resources are first used in manufacturing companies to produce goods and services, which will later be sold to customers to meet their requirements. That is why the ecological education of people in this regard is so important. The purpose of this article was to define the ecological footprint and to show the size of this index in the world and Europe. Examples of actions that every company can make in its operation, to influence the improvement of this index, were also presented.

Opis:
The present age is marked by an unsustainable trends not only in the field of production but also in consumption, and concerns all levels of the community. At enterprise level, there is an effort to eliminate these negative trends by the application of several concepts in which environment and security are the essential parts. The paper focuses on environmental management as a significant part of the corporate sustainability concept and reports using of specific environmental tools to promote corporate sustainability. Apart from the tools, the paper also deals with motives that lead enterprises to focus on the environmental protection. The data were obtained through a questionnaire survey among Slovak manufacture enterprises. The focus of the research is transformed into several hypotheses. Several methods of inferential statistics (Interval estimate, Chi-square test, Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA, and Wilcoxon signed-rank test) were used to verify our hypotheses. In hypothesis testing we used .05 level of significance. Based on the descriptive statistics it is evident that 50% of the total number of enterprises (N = 336) use at least one of the environmental management tools. Their using depends on the origin of capital. The results also indicate the individual benefits of focusing on environmental management and underline their importance to the business world.

The increasing worldwide energy consumption, especially in the industry range, forces the companies to search for the solutions, which - being written into sustainable development philosophy - would allow for reducing the level of the energy consumption of the realised processes and lowering the costs of their functioning. Those activities can be undertaken in the systemic way, very often based on the implementation of the energy management system, they can also have the character of technical or technological modernisation. Fundament of the decision concerning the manner of the minimisation of energy consumption should always be the energy risk management covering: its identification, evaluation and acceptability assessment. The studies proposed the principles for defining the significant energy aspects by the full identification of all the present aspects and next the development of unified methodology of their assessment, allowing for appointing the key aspects. The starting point constitutes the energy risk ratio, which takes into consideration the following criteria: probability of the occurrence, significance of the occurrence, ability to monitor, incompatibility with legal requirements, and the interest and attention of the stakeholders. Flexibility of the applied method enables complex application in every organisation - independently of its size and sort of the realised processes - which wants to manage the risky energy aspects.

Organizations are becoming more aware of the importance of integrated management systems (IMS). Interest in this subject indicates that IMS are seen as "management systems of the future“. The problem is that the methodology of integration of management systems does not exist. There are specification for example PAS 66 that tell only about requirements standards. standards Both ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 standards were revised in 2015. Based on this, the aim of this article is to characterize the possibility of creation of IMS through the identification of common elements and specific requirements in accordance with professional references ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.

Opis:
The underlying objective of the paper is to indicate pro-environmental awareness level in micro and small enterprises and its influence on this sector’s activity in the context of environmental management. The author has introduced a taxonomy of pro-environmental awareness and also pro-environmental security, pro-environmental culture and pro-environmental ethics. Heterogeneous pro-environmental attitudes of units/entities (including business entities) have been aggregated in the paper, in the context of their transformation from a passive towards active attitude. The elaborated levels of pro-environmental awareness growth have been summarised in a chronological grasp, which constituted the subject of the research with reference to the subject matter of the paper defined in its title. The author has also justified the selection of the research subject - micro and small enterprises, which are a source of surface contamination (local one), but not always perceived as beneficiaries of the natural environment. With reference to the adopted subject of the research the author has made an attempt to evaluate the pro-environmental awareness of the purposefully selected population of micro and small enterprises. Maturity level of their pro-environmental awareness has also been evaluated according to the adopted scale described and explained in the theoretical part of the paper, which is a narrow part of the conducted research and an attempt to answer the question: What is the maturity level of pro-environmental awareness in micro and small enterprises and is it reflected in their green activity in the conducted business activity?.

Eco-efficiency is a new concept of environmental analysis seeking to improve products, processes and manufacturing materials. The eco-efficiency analysis gives the opportunity to find the most effective solution with the lowest environmental burden in the bottle forming process. For this purpose, the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) technique of environmental management was used to evaluate selected stages of the bottle forming process. The analysis was carried out using the Eco Indicator 99 method using the SimaPro software.

Increasing awareness and the number of activities for environmental protection has influenced the development of environmental management systems. Currently, there is a wide range of environmental management systems that can be implemented thus organizations can choose which system suits their activities best. Among small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises, the most popular is a system based on the ISO 14001 standard. Therefore, it seems advisable to promote the skillful implementation of this system. The study was devoted to this issue. It pointed out that the participation of an external consultant, the size of the enterprise as well as the nature of the activity in small and medium manufacturing enterprises has a small importance at the time of its implementation. To implement such a system skillfully, preparation work period for designing and implementing should last about 9 - 12 months.

Power engineering is one of the key areas of sustainable development. Many countries create new concepts of environmental safety management and modify their energy systems to be in line with the goals of sustainable development in the EU. Sustainable development indicators can be a tool for monitoring the set goals of environmental safety management. The aim of the article is to assess the environmental safety management of the energy sector in Poland in relation to EU as well as presenting the concept of sustainable energy development and indicators used to assess the development of energy in the following dimensions: social, economic and ecological. The indicators used to assess the sustainable development of energy in the following dimensions were compared: sustainable consumption and production, marking the production and consumption of energy; organizations and sites with eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS); registration climate change, marking GHG emissions and the share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption; sustainable transport, marking the energy consumption of transport relative to GDP. The article will test the hypothesis that the structure of obtaining energy in Poland and the tempo of change in this respect differ from the EU average.

Environmental safety management contributes to sustainable development. Sustainable development is a consequence of global ecological and social threats. The natural potential of the Earth is running out, which is confirmed by worsening indicators of Living Planet Index and Ecological Footprint. Acceleration of sustainable development is particularly important to production enterprises. Production enterprises use the majority of the world’s non-renewable resources and they are largely responsible for environmental pollution. The negative influence of the enterprises on the environment can be stopped by transforming them into sustainable enterprises. Sustainable top managers should play a key role in this process. Sustainable top managers constitute a new currently emerging category of leaders. They possess knowledge and experience in both management as well as sustainability. Their features include social and ecological sensitivity, innovation and the ability to convince and motivate employees within the scope of sustainable development as well. Their objective is to create an organization whose mission, strategy and operational action programmes include ecological and social initiatives. Due to this, sustainable development is becoming an important and permanent element of enterprise functioning. Sustainable leadership constitutes a key challenge for top managers which they should accept for the benefit of future generations. The support of environmental safety management by sustainable top managers promotes its implementation in enterprises thanks to their knowledge and ecological sensitivity as well as engaging in sustainable development.

A multi-floor manufacturing in residential districts of huge city promotes decongestion of urban traffic and satisfy the population’s demand for essential goods. City manufacturing and its supply chain entail several challenges related to the sustainable development of a large agglomeration. Environmental problems impose significant constraints on such manufacturing activities and production waste in the urban environment poses a real problem that needs to be addressed by special research. This paper discusses integrated sustainable production waste management for a city multi-floor manufacturing cluster, consisting of a group of production buildings and a supporting logistics node. In line with the theory of integrated sustainable waste management, three key components are addressed: waste management stakeholders, components of the waste management system, and the technical, environmental and legal aspects of a city multi-floor manufacturing cluster. The goal of the paper is to develop a concept for a model of environmental sustainable waste management in a city multi-floor manufacturing cluster, aimed at ensuring the system safety: human - technical facility - environment. This model can serve as a basis for the development of appropriate logistics chains for production waste management considering their hazardousness indicator. The versatility of the model will allow it to be widely used, and when its stages and working principles are embedded in the practice of city multi-floor manufacturing, proper control over the waste management process can be achieved. The application of the proposed model of integrated sustainable production waste management in the practice of the city multi-floor manufacturing clusters will contribute to the environmental sustainability of its operation.

The need of ensure the safety in the realised industrial processes results directly from their negative influence both on environment and workers’ health, and, as a result - the associated material losses. Safety management must be based on the risk management, results of which are the basis of risk acceptability assessment and taking action of the systemic character directed on risk minimisation. Those actions should guarantee technical condition of the used technological installations and monitoring and control equipment as well as organisational solutions, which in the effective manner are going to minimise the probability of occurrence of environmental and occupational accidents, and - in the case of their occurrence - minimise the influences. Therefore research on the practical solutions of process safety assurance, both in the regular conditions of work and in the time of the emergency are of the crucial meaning. That is why the value of the paper is being constituted by the authorial model of operational control, which aim is to guarantee the process safety from the perspective of the both: technical and occupational safety. The worked out model is the systemic tool giving the guidelines of operational management and allowing for the homogeneous management in the range of environmental safety and occupational safety and on the basis of - being the fundamental element of the model - risk management. The worked out model can be implemented in case of any organisation which wants to assure the safety of the realised processes by risk and system management.
