Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the tests was to analyze the microstructure and mechanical properties of a section of the hardening furnace conveyor belt serviced at the temperature of 880-920°C in the carburizing atmosphere, in the context of determining the probable causes of its failure. Design/methodology/approach: The scope of performed tests included: chemical composition analysis of the steel and particles, microstructure investigated using optical and scanning electron microscopy, X-ray phase analysis. Findings: The analysis of the chemical composition showed that the examined material was austenitic steel X15CrNiSi25-21 (S310). Performed metallurgical tests showed that after the service the examined steel was characterized by austenitic structure with numerous precipitates of diverse morphology. In the structure the sigma phase particles and probably the M23C6 carbides precipitates were observed. The continuous grid of precipitates on the boundaries of grains (mainly the sigma phase) and the influence of the cyclic changing heat loads (or thermo-mechanical loads) were the main causes of failure of the analysed detail. Research limitations/implications: The aim of the work was to determine the probable causes of damage of the material used for a conveyor belt of a hardening furnace. Practical implications: The results of investigation and analysis of the metallographic of het-resisting austenitic steel X15CrNiSi25-21 (S310) after service at the temperature of 880-920°C are presented. Originality/value: The paper presents the results of research on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the section of hardening furnace conveyor belt made of creepresisting austenitic steel. The aim of the performed tests was to determine the probable causes of damage of the analysed detail.

Purpose: Purpose of this work is to analyse the process of synthesis of oxide ceramic coatings in plasma electrolytes on 2024 aluminium alloy and to form an electrolyte which allows to reduce energy consumption for the coating formation. Design/methodology/approach: The oxide ceramic coatings were synthesized on 2024 aluminium alloy. The coatings were formed by the alternate application of anode and cathode pulses to the sample. X-ray diffraction analysis of coatings was performed on a DRON-3.0 X-ray diffractometer using CuKa radiation. The thickness of the coatings was determined using a CHY TG-05 thickness gauge. The porosity of the coatings was investigated by analysing the micrographs of the plasma electrolyte oxidation (PEO) coatings obtained on a scanning electron microscope at x500 magnification using the image processing technique. Findings: The electrolyte with 5 g/l H2O2 additive have been elaborated as an optimal composition for synthesis of a coating with an increased content of corundum (a-Al2O3) as compared to a coating synthesized in the same mode in the 3KOH+2Na2SiO3 electrolyte without H2O2. This synthesis mode allows obtaining a coating with a high corundum content at low energy consumption. Research limitations/implications: For further optimization of the synthesis modes, it is necessary to analyse the influence of the phase composition and porosity of the obtained oxide ceramic coatings on their microhardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance. Practical implications: Based on the developed modes of synthesis of the coatings, it will be possible to obtain wear and corrosion resistant oxide ceramic coatings with predetermined functional properties and to reduce energy consumption for their formation. Originality/value: Methods for accelerating the formation of coatings have been proposed and tested, in particular, by adding various amounts of hydrogen peroxide to the electrolyte. The content of oxides in the obtained coatings, in particular, their ratios at various concentrations of hydrogen peroxide in the electrolyte, were determined by X-ray phase analysis. The modes of synthesis of the coatings were developed which allow obtaining a continuous coating without cracks with simultaneous decreasing porosity from 4.32% to 3.55-3.53%.

Opis:
Purpose: This work aims to study the water vapor adsorption property of fine silica particles from semi-burned rice husk ash. The semi-burned rice husk ash is selected as the raw material since it contains high silica and is easily found as a by-product of pottery furnace combustion. Design/methodology/approach: The silica adsorbent from semi-burned rice husk ash was prepared through a sol-gel method using various NaOH concentrations. In doing so, the different pH precipitation was also observed. Here, the fine silica powder was obtained by pulverizing dry sol-gel. The product characterizations were conducted based on water adsorption capacity at different air relative humidity. Findings: The results show no significant effects of different treatments in the extraction and gelation process. The fine silica particles exhibit large porous surfaces with agglomerated nano-sized particles that formed pores. This porous structure is related to the distributions of pore size of each sample, which mostly obey the mesoporous characteristics. From sorption isotherm, weak adsorbent-adsorbate bonding was observed and demonstrated multilayer adsorption of mesoporous materials. Research limitations/implications: The study of water adsorption was carried out at room temperature, which can change at any time, even though has no significant effect on the humidity. However, it is needed to study the adsorption in an incubated area to receive a constant temperature. Practical implications: The products namely silica prepared from semi-burned rice husk ash show a high moisture uptake, especially at a high relative humidity region. This property can be comparable with the other silica preparation methods. So, this product can be a highly potential adsorbent for air or gas dehumidification systems. Originality/value: The silica-based semi-burned rice husk ash as a water adsorbent is more sustainable than commercial silica. This is a positive contribution to find a potentially develop water vapor adsorbent with good adsorption capacity. Besides, the synthesis process is a simple and low-cost process.

Purpose: The purpose of the work is to synthesize and investigate the character of structure formation, phase composition and properties of model alloys Fe75Cr25, Fe70Cr25Zr5, and Fe69Cr25Zr5B1. Design/methodology/approach: Model alloys are created using traditional powder metallurgy approaches. The sintering process was carried out in an electric arc furnace with a tungsten cathode in a purified argon atmosphere under a pressure of 6·104 Pa on a water cooled copper anode. Annealing of sintered alloys was carried out at a temperature of 800°C for 3 h in an electrocorundum tube. The XRD analysis was performed on diffractometers DRON-3.0M and DRON-4.0M. Microstructure study and phase identification were performed on a REMMA-102-02 scanning electron microscope. The microhardness was measured on a PMT-3M microhardness meter. Findings: When alloying a model alloy of the Fe-Cr system with zirconium in an amount of up to 5%, it is possible to obtain a microstructure of a composite type consisting of a mechanical mixture of a basic Fe2(Cr) solid solution, solid solutions based on Laves phases and dispersive precipitates of these phases of Fe2Zr and FeCrZr compositions. In alloys of such systems or in coatings formed based on such systems, an increase in hardness and wear resistance and creep resistance at a temperature about 800°C will be reached. Research limitations/implications: The obtained results were verified during laser doping with powder mixtures of appropriate composition on stainless steels of ferrite and ferrite-martensitic classes. Practical implications: The character of the structure formation of model alloys and the determined phase transformations in the Fe-Cr, Fe-Cr-Zr, and Fe-Cr-B-Zr systems can be used to improve the chemical composition of alloying plasters during the formation of ferrite and ferrite-martensitic stainless steel coatings. Originality/value: The model alloys were synthesized and their phase composition and microstructure were studied; also, their microhardness was measured. The influence of the chemical composition of the studied materials on the character of structure formation and their properties was analysed.

Purpose: The purpose of this work is to evaluate the propensity to brittle fracture of YSZ ceramics stabilized by the various amount of yttria, based on a study of changes in the microstructure, phase composition, and fracture micromechanisms. Design/methodology/approach: The series of 3YSZ, 4YSZ, and 5YSZ ceramic specimens were sintered in an argon atmosphere. Three sintering temperatures were used for each series: 1450°C, 1500°C, and 1550°C. Microhardness measurements were performed on a NOVOTEST TC-MKB1 microhardness tester. The configuration of the imprints and cracks formed was studied on an optical microscope Neophot-21. The fracture toughness of the material was estimated using both the Vickers indentation method and a single-edge notch beam (SENB) test performed under three-point bending at 20°C in air. The microstructure and morphology of the fracture surface of the specimens were studied using a scanning electron microscope Carl Zeiss EVO-40XVP. The chemical composition was determined using an INCA ENERGY 350 spectrometer. Findings: Peculiarities of changes in the microstructure, the morphology of specimens fracture surface, and mechanical characteristics of YSZ ceramic materials of different chemical and phase compositions sintered in a temperature range of 1450°C to 1550°C are found. Research limitations/implications: To study the actual behaviour of YSZ ceramic materials under operating conditions, it is necessary to evaluate their Young’s moduli, strength, microhardness, and fracture toughness in an operating environment of the corresponding parameters (temperature, pressure, etc.).Practical implications: Based on the developed approach to estimating the propensity to brittle fracture of the formed YSZ ceramic microstructure, it is possible to obtain YSZ ceramic material that will provide the necessary physical and mechanical properties of a wide variety of precision ceramic products. Originality/value: An approach to estimating the propensity to brittle fracture of YSZ ceramics stabilized by the various amount of yttria is proposed based on two methods of evaluating crack growth resistance of materials, namely, the Vickers indentation method and SENB method.

Purpose: Friction drilling is a unique way of creating holes in steel. In a solitary advance, a rotating conical tool is utilized to enter by penetrating as an opening on the surface of the sheet and making a bushing without making a chip. During this process, the heat produced by the frictional power linking the device and the sheet metal workpiece is used to pierce and make a bushing out of work. The goal of this novel hole-making process is to improve the bushing length in the thin-walled sheet metals by forming a bush and then combining thin sheet metals. The inconceivable utilizations of warm grating penetrating in a few modern areas will introduce another period of interfacing processes for different work materials in automobiles. Design/methodology/approach: Researchers have undergone numerous experiments based on the machining parameters, including spindle speed, feed rates, Friction Contact Ratio (FACR), tool angle, tool diameter, sheet thickness, and the output of the friction drilling, includes the bushing length, surface roughness, tool wear, hardness, thrust force, torque and microstructural evaluation. Findings: The crucial concerns that should be addressed and researched by researchers in the near future, such as determining the optimal machining parameters of such process and analysing, bushing length, microstructural impacts on the many aspects and their performance, are highlighted. Research limitations/implications: This research paper tends to examine the advancements in research on the friction drilling method and its applications, taking into account the benefits and limits of friction drilling. Practical implications: The present paper identifies the machining parameters and their contribution towards the output level of various materials like Stainless steel, Brass, aluminium, titanium, tempered steel and nickel-based compounds of different thickness. Originality/value: The machining parameters like spindle speeds, feed rate, tool angles, thrust force, Torque, surface roundness, bushing height, frictional heat and tool diameter are optimized in the friction drilling. The incorrect bushing is formed due to the high thrust force, and Low temperatures cause ductility and softening issues.

Purpose: This research examined the effects of artificial-aging temperature and time on tensile strength, hardness, microstructure, and fault morphology in AlSiMg. Design/methodology/approach: This research was conducted using aluminium alloy at 120°C, 150°C, and 180°C artificial-aging temperature and 6 hours holding time. The tensile test used ASTM B211-03 standard and hardness test adapted to ALCOA 6061 standard. Findings: Tensile test results indicated the highest tenacity on aluminium alloy at a 150ºC temperature that was 47.263% strain level. In addition to the strain level, this research also obtained the highest tensile strength level at 180ºC that was 62.267 kgf/mm2 and the highest hardness value that was 110 HV. The increase in tensile strength and hardness at 180°C was caused by the increase in Mg, Si, and Al. Based on the microstructure test, the highest tenacity was obtained at 150°C temperature as the result of closed and gathered Mg2Si precipitates; while at 180°C temperature, the precipitates appeared to be more distributed, causing a rise in hardness value and tensile strength. AlSiMg tenacity also exhibited from the number of dimples compared to cleavages at 150°C temperature. Research limitations/implications: The limitation that found in this research was conducted using AlSiMg aluminium Al6061 specimen with an artificial-aging treatment at 120ºC, 150°C, and 180°C temperature for 6 hours and then compared to the raw material. AlSiMg tensile specimen was made according to ASTM E8-E8M standard. Practical implications: This research can be applied in industrial manufacture process to find tensile strength, hardness, microstructure, and fault morphology of Al6061 alloy. Originality/value: According to research result, can be understood that by conducting these experiments, Artificial-aging treatment temperature variations in AlSiMg aluminium alloy could increase hardness.

Purpose: This research aimed to prepare tetragonal zirconia polycrystals powder by coprecipitation method and study effects of addition of different amounts of nano Al2O3 (1, 2 and 4) wt.% on its microstructure and mechanical properties of (5Y-TZP) composite. Design/methodology/approach: The powder was uniaxial pressed at a pressure of 150 MPa and held for 60 s, and sintered at the 1500°C, held for two hours and then cooling down at 5°C/min to room temperature. Microhardness and fracture toughness tests were utilized to evaluate the mechanical properties of yttria tetragonal zirconia polycrystal composite. The microstructure has been observed using field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM). Findings: The results showed an addition of nano Al2O3 has a great influence on hardness and microstructure, the increase in Vicker's microhardness of composite samples with the increase in the nano Al2O3 wt.% and microstructure were characterized with homogeneous zirconia distribution, grain growth destruction with the increasing percentage of nano Al2O3. The most important influence is the enhancing of the densification process as the porosity decreased. The highest hardness and maximum fracture toughness were recorded at 4 wt.% nano Al2O3. Research limitations/implications: Ceramic matrix composites are developed to overcome the brittleness of ZrO2 and the low toughness of alumina by formation, a large difference of elastic behavior between matrix and particles(dispersion phase )which disturbs the stress field as a dislocation comes near a particle. Practical implications: Zirconia has mechanical properties similar to those of stainless steel. Yttria-stabilized tetragonal Zirconia (Y-TZP) is growing used in dentistry due to its good mechanical properties such as hardness and fracture toughness. Thus, controlling of microstructure by adding nanoalumina plays an important role in enhancing these properties. Originality/value: Study the adding bitty percentage from nano alumina on microstructure and mechanical properties of (5Y-TZP) ceramic.

Opis:
Purpose: The results presented the microstructure and corrosive behavior of SnSb12Cu6Pb alloy (B82) in H2SO4 aqueous solution and NaCl aqueous solution. Design/methodology/approach: The electrochemical corrosion has been investigated in two different aqueous solutions: 0.1M sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and 0.5M sodium chloride (NaCl) solution measuring of potential changes relative to immersion time and conducting mass loss test. Microscopic investigations before and after corrosion tests were made using scanning electron microscopy. Findings: The obtained results indicate very good corrosion resistance of the alloy tested in NaCl solution. Corrosion progresses faster in a sulfuric acid aqueous solution compared to sodium chloride aqueous solution. Also, it was found that the dominant mechanism of corrosion degradation in both solutions is selective corrosion which is a particularly undesirable type of corrosion because it involves the loss of one alloying component and the formation of porous structure on the alloy surface. Research limitations/implications: The aqueous solutions used in this study are not a natural working environment of the bearing. However, a comparison of acidic and neutral solutions allows explaining the corrosion behavior of tin babbitts due to contaminants of oil lubricants. Further research should be conducted in more aggressive environments characteristic of industrial conditions. Practical implications: One of the important properties of bearing alloys are corrosion resistance. Corrosion properties are extremely important for the transport and storage of metallic components before they are used. Also, the working environment can have a destructive effect on the properties of the materials used. Industry environment, aging stagnant oil, and some acids may lead to selective corrosion of the tin, copper, lead, or antimony components and leaving a rough and weakened the babbitt surface. Electrochemical corrosion can contribute to the acceleration of bearing wear and consequent to bearing damage. Originality/value: Studies of the corrosion of tin-babbitt bearings are not extensive in the literature due to rare tin corrosion. This study could be an important complement to knowledge about the corrosion behavior of tin-based bearing alloys.

Purpose: In dental practice, there is necessary to weld gold with titanium under the conditions of a dental technique laboratory, which is difficult. The aim was to assess the weldability of pure gold with the titanium alloy Ti6Al4V using a prosthetic laser welding machine. Design/methodology/approach: Gold wire in a diameter of 0.4 mm made with the use of a jewellery drawbar (GOLDPORT, Szczecin, Poland) was welded to a titanium alloy Ti6Al4V substrate of dental implant abutment screw (MegaGen). Dental laser welding parameters (Bego Laser Star T plus) were 230 V; 6.5 ms; 2.5 Hz; laser spot 0.3 mm, and argon blow. Samples were included in resin, ground (500-4000 SiC), polished (Al2O3 suspension) and etched (Kroll solution) per 20 s before observation under a light microscope. Findings: There were well-welded and poorly joined zones. The discontinuities and voids there were not visible or sparse next to the initial weld point. Dendritic structure at well-welded remelting zones and two-phase microstructure of titanium and Ti3Au phase were found. The heat-affected zone was about of 20 microns. Research limitations/implications: Light microscopy was used, and precise phase identification required further investigations. Weld strength assessment requires further micro-hardness and load-bearing ability tests. Weldability concerns the model system with pure gold. Practical implications: In the case of elements with dimensions below 0.4 mm, the use of a laser with a smaller spot should be considered for better control of the remelting zone and mechanical positioning of the elements in order to stabilize and avoid discontinuities and voids. Originality/value: Prosthetic laser welding with a laser spot about of 0.3 mm allows to obtain well-welded parts of 0.3 mm in diameter under stable stitching conditions and higher than 0.4 mm in dimensions.

Purpose: Determine the possibility of modifying aluminium alloys of the Al-Si system with an ultrafine SiC modifier with a particie size of 3-5 pm. Design/methodology/approach: Processing of the Al-Si alloy was carried out by introducing an ultrafine modifier in the amount of 0.1, 0.2, or 0.3 wt.%. Silicon carbide (SiC) with a particle size in the range of 3-5 pm was used as a modifier. To study the microstructure of the formed surface layers, a metallographic analysis was performed according to the standard method on a microscope MIKPOTEX® MMT-14C using TopView software. Microhardness studies of the samples were carried out on a Vickers microhardness tester NOVOTEST TC-MKV1. The microstructure of castings of the AlSi12 grade was studied at magnification from 100 to 400 times on the horizontal and vertical surfaces of the samples after etching with a 2% NaOH aqueous solution. Findings: Aluminium cast alloy of Al-Si system has been synthesized with the addition of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 wt.% ultrafine SiC modifier. It was found that the modification of the AlSi12 alloy by SiC particles of 3-5 pm in size led to an improvement of its microstructure due to the reduction of the volume fraction of micropores and primary Si crystals. It was shown that the AlSi12 aluminium alloy due to the modification by 0.2 wt.% SiC has the best micromechanical properties and macrostructure density. Research limitations/implications: The obtained research results are relevant for cast specimens of the indicated sizes and shapes. The studies did not take into account the influence of the scale factor of the castings. Practical implications: The developed modification technology was recommended for use in the conditions of the foundry "Dnipropetrovsk Aggregate Plant" (Dnipro, Ukraine). Originality/value: The technology of AlSi12 alloy modification of ultrafine SIC modifier with a particle size of 3-5 pm was used for the first time.

Opis:
Purpose: This article is a monographic summary of the most important research results from the last 10 years regarding HSS based materials. This materias were produced with powder metallurgy technology using spontaneous infiltration. The presented results answer the question of how iron, tungsten carbide and copper additives influence the final properties of these materials and present additional microstructural phenomena revealed during their manufacture. Design/methodology/approach: Materials were produced by spontaneous infiltration. Porous skeletons for infiltration were produced by pressing and pressing and sintering of mixed powders. Copper was used as the infiltrant. Findings: The molten copper was drawn into the porous skeletons, through a capillary action, and filled virtually the entire pore volume to get the final densities exceeding 97% of the theoretical value. Research limitations/implications: As part of further research, microstructures of M30WC composites obtained by direct infiltration of copper into as-sintered porous skeletons using TEM are planned. Practical implications: Efficiant mechanical strength, high hardness, adequate heat resistance and good wear resistance of M3 type 2 HSS powder produced by woter atomisation make it an attractive material for manufacture of valve train components, for example valve seat inserts. Originality/value: The novelty in the article are the results of research on the microstructure made using TEM, the results of testing materials after heat treatment, untypical for highspeed steels. The article attempts to explain the influence of iron addition on properties - such a slight loss of mass as a result of its addition. The second aim of this work is to analyse the microstructural changes during sintering porous skeletons made from HSS with WC additions.
