Opis:
This case study describes a manufacturing process of composite chassis also known as monocoque. The structure is made using carbon fibre reinforced polymers (CFRP) which are manufactured in out-of-autoclave (OOA) process from pre-impregnated carbon fabrics and aluminium alloy honeycomb core. Since the material cost is high the aim of the project was to reduce the cost of manufacturing process i.e. cost of models and moulds. Therefore, instead of high-temp models and moulds a cheaper alternative was used. It consisted of Styrofoam models made using polyurethane (PU) paste and moulds made from CFRP using wet layup process which were cured at room temperature. Such moulds had to be adapted to withstand high temperatures during pre-preg cure. This was done with gradual heat annealing process which increased the maximum service temperature from 45C to 90C. This was enough for the low-temp cure of pre-preg material, but it might be possible to increase the temperature even further. As a result, the cost of manufacturing process had been reduced by 50%.

Opis:
Lean is a culture of real and continuous optimization. As a concept of continuous optimization in the midst of limited resources, it must be practiced continuously as a long-term organizational norm. This paper revels why changeover time reduction is important in manufacturing industries and from the various tools and techniques available within Lean manufacturing describes mainly SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Dies) for changeover time reduction and its application in Shaft manufacturing industry. This paper also describes principles, benefits, procedures and practical application of SMED. Theoretical bases are verified in a practical part that describes the analysis and design optimization of non-productive time at changeover honing machine in a selected shaft manufacturing company. The output is the structural design of universal palettes and an evaluation of productivity due to optimization of operations of time honing gear shafts. The results achieved show considerable reduction in delay arising out of machine setting time, batch-setting time and demonstration delay.

Opis:
According to the prevailing marketing trend that seeks to fulfil the customer's needs in their entirety, timely execution of production orders became the main criterion for evaluation of the quality of the company's performance. One way of achieving this aim is a proper planning of technological processes and a proper arrangement of production orders to be executed. This paper investigates the issue of sequencing the production orders in a dynamic manufacturing environment. It is assumed that it is possible to add further production orders while the manufacturing system is in operation. A new method for determining the sequence of production orders is proposed; the method is optimal with regard to minimizing the sum of tardiness. The algorithm designed allows deciding whether the base sequence, determined by the minimum deadline calculation, is optimal with regard to minimizing the sum of tardiness. Otherwise, a new sequence of production orders that is optimal in terms of minimizing the sum of tardiness is determined. The method yields better results than the method of minimum deadline, machining time, or time reserve.

The publications increasingly describe the support of production processes in both manufacturing and assembly areas. The support in industry is due, among other things, to the insufficient manpower, the need to improve productivity or to increase reliability of production in terms of errors. This article presents an example of an industrial implementation in the welding area. The main objective of the application of the presented example was to replace a commercial product and to speed up the manufacturing process of an axisymmetric workpiece of the sleeve type. The presented proposal was implemented in a company where welding is the main manufacturing technology.

Opis:
Powstają koncepcje budowy systemów o elastyczności odpowiadającej charakterowi bieżącej produkcji i posiadajacych w przyszłości możliwość przystosowania do określonego niepewnością rozwoju produktu. Znaczenie tego tematu potwierdzane jest wzrostem zainteresowania przedsiębiorstw stawiających pierwsze kroki na polu elastycznej auomatyzacji. Jedna z koncepcji proponuje systemy o wymaganej zgodnej z potrzebami elastyczności o nazwie Focused Flexibility Manufacturing Systems (FFMS).
Flexibility is related to the technological development of a product and to frequent shifts in rate of production. However, investment in flexibility is a serious finacial burden for many companies, which is why manufacturing system providers seek new solutions for desingning systems of required flexibility at moderate costs. The idea is to construct a system of flexibility suited for a current manufacturing cycle while capable of being adjusted to the future development of the product, which as of today is unforseeable. The singnificance of this concept is confirmed by an increased interest from the new enterprises in the field of flexible automatisation. One of the concepts introduces a system called Focused Flexibility Manufacturing Systems (FFMS).

Opis:
The paper presents a method, developed by the authors, for manufacturing polymer composites with the matrix manufactured in a layered manner (via 3D printing – Fused Deposition Modeling) out of a thermoplastic material. As an example of practical application of this method, functional prototypes are presented, which were used as elements of foundry tooling – patterns for sand molding. In case of manufacturing prototype castings or short series of products, foundries usually cooperate with modeling studios, which produce patterns by conventional, subtractive manufacturing technologies. If patterns have complex shapes, this results in high manufacturing costs and significantly longer time of tooling preparation. The method proposed by the authors allows manufacturing functional prototypes in a short time thanks to utilizing capabilities of additive manufacturing (3D printing) technology. Thanks to using two types of materials simultaneously (ABS combined with chemically hardened resins), the produced prototypes are capable of carrying increased loads. Moreover, the method developed by the authors is characterized by manufacturing costs lower than in the basic technology of Fused Deposition Modeling. During the presented studies, the pattern was produced as a polymer composite and it was used to prepare a mold and a set of metal castings.

However, this requires knowledge of the geometrical relationships of a threaded itself and the strength of materials from which the screw-threaded joint is made. Thanks to the development of research models and conducting tests related to dimensional accuracy and surface roughness, it was possible to test the models made by MEX process of ABS-M30, PLA, ABS, PETG materials, and PolyJet process from RGD720 polymer material. In the case of measurements carried out on the MarSurf XC20 system, the internal and external thread profile was obtained.Measurements of the surface roughness of the printed models were made using the Taylor Hobson TalyScan 150 profilometer. Based on the obtained surface, following the ISO 25178-2 standard, selected parameters were determined.

The methodology for precision analysis rests on a selected simplified numerical calculation model of a manufacturing machine on which virtual machining has been conducted. The mechanical inaccuracy itself is calculated by computer via the FEM analysis. The results are processed for visualization by the Excel software.
