Opis:
The aim of this study was to manufacture amorphous Co22Y54Al24 alloy in a form of thin ribbons and to investigate their properties. The investigated ribbons were prepared by rapid solidification of molten metal on a rotating copper cylinder (melt-spinning). In order to obtain the material with amorphous structure, the cooling rate of the liquid alloy should vary in a range from 104 to 106 K/s. The microstructure studies were performed using X-ray diffractometery. The mechanical properties were investigated by metallographic studies, micro-hardness and tribological resistance tests moreover the surface roughness profile were analyzed. All studies were performed for two sides of tapes, since the differences in ribbons surface, related with manufacturing process, are clearly visible. The surface from the bottom (drum side) was glossy and from the top side it was shiny.

Opis:
The contemporary work manifests that friction stir welding (FSW) is a viable avenue for joining AA1100 aluminium (Al) to C12200 copper (Cu) plates. In this present study, the response of distinctive welding parameters (viz. tool geometries, tool rotational speed, tool travel speed, and tool plunging depth) on weld quality has been investigated. The present work focused on both microstructural investigation and mechanical properties examination. It has been observed that the process parameters have significant effects on weld quality. The design of the experiments has been executed considering four welding input parameters in two variables and selected L-16 orthogonal array to limit the experimental replications. It has been observed that good quality of welds produced by keeping the tool pin offset around 4mm towards the aluminium side and 2mm towards the copper side. And it has also been noticed that right-hand threaded tool pins are giving good weld quality compared to left-handed thread. The joint efficiencies for the welds E2, E14 which were welded by RHT tools were 75.3% and 74.61% and the Strength (UTS) of the welds for the same tools exhibit’s greater than the LHT tools i.e., 98 and 95Mpa. Moderate hardness values are observed for the same welds E1 and E14 with the parameters 1100rpm, 98welding speed, and 1.6mm tool plunge depth. . It also noticed that the weld quality can be significantly enhanced by using proper tool plunge and tool pin geometries compared to the other process parameters.

Opis:
Shape memory alloys are important biomaterials but difficult-to-machine (DTM). Their machining needs to be done using intelligent techniques to obtain a better machinability. Hybrid optimization is one of such techniques which can do modelling and optimization of machining parameters for the best values of machinability indicators. Wire electric discharge machining (WEDM) of shape memory alloy has been found as a prominent alternate to the conventional machining techniques, however it needs the assistance of intelligent techniques to machine such materials to get the optimum values of machinability indicators. In this paper, WEDM of shape memory alloy Ni55.8Ti is reported. WEDM has been done by varying four process parameters i.e. servo voltage SV, pulse-on time Pon, pulse-off time Poff, and wire feed rate WF using Taguchi L16 robust design of experiment technique. A hybrid optimization technique TOPSIS-Fuzzy-PSO has been successfully used to optimize these parameters (SV-50V; Pon-1µs; Poff-17 µs; WF-4 m/min) for the best possible values of material removal rate (MRR)- 0.049 g/min, maximum roughness- 11.45 µm, and recast layer- 22.10 µm simultaneously.

The influence of nitrogen ion implantation on the tribological properties of Stellite 6 cobalt alloy was investigated. The tribological tests were conducted using a pin / ball on disc in the atmosphere of engine fuels. In the study, cobalt alloy was implanted with 60 keV nitrogen ions at the fluence of 1∙1016 and 5∙1016 N+/cm2. The wear trace was measured using the Form Talysurf Intra Taylor Hobson profilometer. The results demonstrate that nitrogen ion implantation affects the friction coefficient and wear. The effect of nitrogen ion implantation depends on the environment in which the tribological test is carried out, the sample temperature and the presence of friction products in the friction node.

Opis:
The paper presents an overview of high-performance milling techniques of thin-walled elements. Currently, the tendency to simplify semi-finished products is used in aviation. In that case even 95% of semi-finished product mass is converted into chips, hence the increasing interest in such technol-ogies as: High Performance Cutting and High Speed Cutting. The aim of the paper was to research high-performance milling techniques of thin-walled elements in reference to conventional machin-ing. The material was the EN AW-7075 T651 aluminium alloy. A thin-walled pocket structure was designed and manufactured. The aspects related to geometric accuracy, surface quality and cutting time were analysed. On the basis of the obtained results, it was found that in case of geometric accu-racy related to the wall deformation, the greatest deformation was obtained after HPC, while the smallest one after HSC. The difference was over 400% (comparing HPC to HSC). A similar relation-ship was also received for the quality of the machined surface. Analysing the cutting time, the best result was achieved after HPC in reference to HSC and conventional machining. Taking into ac-count all analysed variables, the best solution was a combination of HPC and HSC. Thanks to the use of high-speed machining as a finishing, it is possible to receive high geometric accuracy and quality of the machined surface, while the application of HPC for roughing allows to shorten the cutting time, translating into an increase in the efficiency of the milling process. Conventional ma-chining is slightly less advantageous in terms of geometric accuracy and surface quality and it could possibly be used alternatively with High Speed Cutting, but its weakness is significantly lower effi-ciency compared to high-performance machining.

Opis:
The article presents an analysis of the macrostructure and mechanical properties of spot welds of joints made by Refill Friction Spot Stir Welding (RFSSW) method. RFSSW is a relatively new technology that is gaining wider use, not only in the automotive and aviation industries because it is a less energy intensive method than resistance spot welding. The primary focus of the article is the effect of welding time on the quality of the welded joints of sheet metal using the aforementioned method. The research was conducted on a joint between two pieces of sheet metal of various thicknesses (1.6 mm and 0.8 mm) made of a common aviation grade aluminium alloy 7075-T6 Alclad. Metallographic sections of select variants were made in order to analyze the structure of the joint. Strength tests with a static load were conducted in different loading configurations. A traditional tensile strength test was conducted on the lap joint, which revealed a complex stress state within the joint and an analogous test was conducted with the use of a stiffening holder that ensured a pure shear state in the joint. Peel tests were also performed on the lap joints with using a special holder.

Opis:
Heat treatment is the most suitable technique for altering the microstructure and, consequently, it is possible to create the optimal balance of corrosion resistance and mechanical strength in a material by carefully regulating the conditions during the heating process. The present work aims to investigate the effect of heat treatments (annealing) at (300°C) at different times (10, 20, and 30 hr) on the magnesium alloy. How the Mg17Al12 phase influences the corrosion behavior of AZ91D magnesium alloy was quantified in different solution (SBF, Lactic and Ringer). It was able to construct an extensive range of Mg17Al12 phase volume fractions by varying the annealing period. The corrosion potential of many specimens with varied proportions of the Mg17Al12 phase was evaluated. The results of the conducted tests manifested that the material's resistance to corrosion greatly improved with an increase in the volume fraction of Mg17Al12 phase. The effect of heat treatment on the microstructure was analyzed using transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The SEM photographs evinced that the amount of β-Mg17Al12 phase decreased significantly, with the distribution occurring at the grain boundaries and with increasing the time of annealing, resulting in a highly saturated α-grain. The XRD validated the all material peaks of phases that are present. The corrosion test behavior of AZ91 alloy in the simulated body fluid (SBF), lactic, and Ringer solutions was investigated through electrochemical measurements, the result was elucidated as measured along the Tafel slope, and the corrosion current density of all heat treated samples was lower than that of the as-cast sample. The measurement of hardness (HV) demonstrated that the hardness decreased to (64.5 HV0.5) during the heat treatment. The result antibacterial efficiency was revealed that AZ91 at 30 hr was best then as cast against the bacteria E.coli.

This study presents the results of tests on impact of vibratory and rotational shot peening of the Ti6A12Mo2Cr titanium alloy onto the processed object surface roughness and surface layer microhardness. The external surfaces of ring-shaped samples were shot peened. The preceding process consisted of turning with a cubic boron nitride blade knife. Steel beads, having a diameter of 6 mm, were used as a processing medium. The variable parameters of shot peening were vibrator amplitude and shot peening time. The range of recommended technological parameters for vibratory and rotational shot peening was determined. As a result of shot peening, the surface roughness could be reduced by approximately 4 times and the surface layer could be hardened to the depth of approximately 0.4 mm.

Thermal energy produced by discrete and random electric sparks in electric discharge machining (EDM) melts surface material. A portion of this molten material is removed and the remaining material resolidified by rapid cooling in a hydrocarbon oil. The effect of repeated heating and cooling of the surface and sub surface material with complex temperature gradients results in residual stresses in machined parts. The aim of this investigation is to determine the distribution of residual stresses in the depth of machined material with respect to discharge current, most important electric parameter during EDM. It is well known that surface finish is dependent on discharge current. Therefore, investigations were carried out for smaller discharge current levels i.e. 3, 6, 9, 12 ampere. Hole-drill strain gauge method is used for the determination of residual stresses in the depth of material. For comparison purposes, residual stresses are also determined for conventionally turned specimens. This study provided quantitative analysis of the residual stresses for various discharge current in EDM which is a key parameter in deciding the service life of material.
