Opis:
The literature does not provide a systematic analysis of the effect of electrostatic powder coating repainting of structural and constructional aluminum elements on their technological parameters. It is industrial practice that worn or damaged coatings be repainted. It is crucial to determine the effect of electrostatic sprayed coatings repainting on their microstructure, roughness and mechanical properties. The aim of the work is to determinate the influence of repainting of powder deposited polyester coatings on their mechanical properties, roughness and microstructure. This study examined three different electrostatic spray epoxy coatings with matt, silk gloss and fine structure-matt finish. Test panels were prepared as single- and double-layer paint coatings on the aluminum alloy 6060 substrate. Hence, six test sets of coatings were deposited. Each set contained six samples. The microstructure of the cross section of coating was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and light optical microscopy (metallographic and stereoscopy microscope). The chemical composition of coating was analyzed by the SEM-EDS method. The 2D surface roughness of single- and double-layer coatings and 3D surface topography maps were examined using a profile measurement gauge. The mechanical properties of coatings were measured by cupping, bending, impact, adhesion to substrate tests run according to standard procedures. As a result, the influence of repainting of polyester powder coatings on their properties was determined. The results demonstrate that repainting has no effect on the microstructure and coating adhesion to substrate as well as the bending test results and roughness of matt and silk gloss coatings. It has been found that repainting affects the results of impact and cupping tests as well as the roughness of samples with fine structure surface finish.

Opis:
TRIP type steels have a multi-phase structure, which includes such phases as: austenite, bainite, ferrite and martensite. The presence of so many co-existing phases creates difficulties in their accurate identification. One of the methods used to identify the components of the microstructure is color metallography. Methods of color metallography in contrary to some methods of microstructure identification (e.g. TEM, EBSD) are simple to use, cheap and not very time-consuming. However, there are still no detailed recommendations on the use of this method. The paper examines the possibilities of application of colored etching methods, to distinguish the components of the microstructure of the as-received material and the welds of the TRIP type steel. Light microscopy methods were used for the study. The obtained results allow for a qualitative distinction of individual components of the microstructure.
W pracy zbadano możliwości aplikacji metod trawienia kolorowego, do rozróżnienia składników mikrostruktury materiału rodzimego oraz spoiny stali typu TRIP Do badań użyto metod mikroskopii świetlnej. Otrzymane wyniki, pozwalają na jakościowe rozróżnienie poszczególnych składników mikrostruktury.

Opis:
Electron Beam Welding (EBM) is a high-energy density fusion process where joint is bombarded to be welded with strongly focused beam of electrons. This method is often used for advanced materials and complex, critical parts, like turbine rotors, but it can also be used for many simpler processes involving large production runs. It is very suitable for butt welding materials of different thicknesses. The aim of this work was to study the microstructure, hardness, and electrochemical corrosion behavior between the dissimilar welds were investigated. Electron Beam Welding of dissimilar steel alloys Inconel 625 and AISI 430 was studied. In welding process there was used only welded materials without filling material. Results showed the microstructure of the weld solidified in dendritic morphology. The microstructure of fusion zone showed that dendrites grew in different directions for each grain. The dendrites and columnar grains are mainly exposed to the fusion boundary with some equiaxed grains. The hardness of the overall joint was non-uniform. The highest hardness of the HAZ/Inconel 625 (the heat-affected zone) was 258 HV, and the lowest weld zone hardness was 178 HV. The decrease in weld hardness may be due to the linear welding energy, which led to grain growth and excessive cooling. HAZ/AISI 430 steel has the lowest current density and the highest corrosion potential. Steel has a more negative corrosion potential and a lower corrosion current density than joints, likely due to higher levels of chromium. In this study, a metallographic investigation of the joints revealed no defects such as microcracks or pores. The melting temperatures of the two materials were quite different, but with the help of gravity, stainless steel acts as a permanent joint, like a rivet.

Opis:
In this research, aluminium metal matrix composites (AMMCs) have been manufactured through friction stir processing (FSP) by reinforcing nano-sized SiC particles in an Al6061-T6 alloy. The consequences of the volume percentage of reinforced SiC particles on mechanical properties and microstructural features were analyzed for the developed AMMCs. Microstructural evaluation of a cross-section of a friction stir processed (FSPed) sample has been conducted through Electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and a scanning electron microscope (SEM) technique. Microhardness tests were conducted athwart the cross section of FSPed specimen to obtain microhardness feature. A tensile test of FSPed samples has been conducted on a universal testing machine (UTM). Homogeneous distributions of SiC particles were found in the stir zone without any consolidation of particles. The size of the reinforcement particles was decreased slightly by increasing the volume fraction. It has been found that increasing the volume fraction of SiC particles, enhance the tensile strength and microhardness, but decreases the ductility of the aluminium. The maximum ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and microhardness were obtained as 390 MPa and 150.71 HV, respectively, at 12% volume percentage of reinforcement particles. UTS and microhardness of the FSPed Al/SiC have been improved by 38.29% and 59.48% respectively as compared to Al6061-T6. The brittle nature of the FSPed Al/SiC has increased due to a rise in the volume fraction of nanosized SiC particles, which causes a decrease in ductility.

Opis:
In the field of surface engineering, thermal spraying is very wide adopted in many branches of the industry. The main reasons of such situation are its flexibility as well as cost effectiveness. Among others, High Velocity Oxy Fuel (HVOF) technique is dedicated for spraying hardmetal and cermet coatings, especially for wear- and corrosion resistance. Such type of coating could be a promising candidate as protective layer for magnesium alloys elements. These materials need a strong improvement in the corrosion protection as well as on the field of wear resistance in order to be widely used in the industry. In this work, different WC-based coatings, namely: (i) WC-Co, (ii) WC-Co-Cr and (iii) WC-Cr3C2-Ni manufactured by HVOF spraying, were investigated. The form of all feedstock materials was agglomerated and sintered powder. All coatings were sprayed with the same technological parameters, especially spray distance which was equal to 400 mm on the AZ91 magnesium alloy substrate. The main aim of the studies was to investigate the influence of the powder material on the corrosion resistance of obtained coatings. The manufactured coatings were examined in terms of its microstructure, using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and corrosion performance, which was assessed in the electrochemical corrosion investigations in 3.5% NaCl solution by Tafel method. The study showed that the corrosion resistance increasing in such order: AZ91 < WC-Cr3C2-Ni < WC-Co < WC-Co-Cr. It should be stressed that WC-Cr3C2-Ni coating exhibits very low corrosion performance, which could be effected by relatively high porosity (c.a. 3 vol.%) and because of that the more complex composition promotes creation of many corrosion cells.

This article presents the results of the investigation of structure and chemical composition of wear scar surfaces that influence antiwear characteristics of bioadditives received from waste materials from refining of rape oil. It has been concluded that the type of lubricant used influences the mechanism of surface layer creation, resulting in a change of friction surface microstructure. The content of carbon and, in some cases, oxygen in the wear contact region has been higher than outside this region. It can be evidence of the formation of organic compounds or oxides and carbides during friction.

The subject of the research in this work was the S49 rail made of R260 rail steel (1.0623). The carried out investigations concern microstructure tests and tests of mechanical properties of rails after several years of exposure in the open air without usage. The purpose of the work was to determine on the basis of the results of research the possibilities of using the tested rail for usage and application for the construction of tracks on railway sidings. For investigations there were used diverse techniques reaching such engineering materials investigations like light or scanning electron microscope for microstructure investigations, as well as hardness and microhardness test were performed for determinations of the microstructural changes occurred in the upper area of the rails surface. The microstructure changes concerns especially the ferritic and pearlitic structure and the breaks in the present carbide mesh. During investigations it was found out that the tested railway rails are fully useful for application, after machining to achieve required dimensional parameters. It is also of high importance, of the economical point of view, that their price, also in case of earlier installation of the rails, may be lower than the current price offered on the marked for a entire new product. The price difference reaches dimensions in the range of 5% - 10%.

The Al2O3+TiO2 coatings are of the interest of surface engineering due to their high hardness and wear resistance but also increased toughness, when compared to pure Al2O3 ones. This article describes the deposition of Al2O3+3 wt.% TiO2 coatings by Atmospheric Plasma Spraying (APS) technique. The commercial AMI 6300.1 powder (-45 + 22 μm) was used as a feedstock. The 2k+1 spraying experiment, based on two variables, namely spray distance and torch velocity, was designed. The samples were characterized in the terms of morphology, microstructure, microhardness and roughness. It was observed that the shorter spray distance resulted in lower porosity, higher microhardness and lower roughness of coatings.
