Opis:: The author presents the nature and objectives of a teaching subject, which is offered for several years on German Studies Institute at the University of Warsaw by employees of the Department of German-speaking courtiers as a part of Intercultural Communication specialization. Comparative studies in culture are a term, which differs from philological comparative studies. It means a sub-discipline, which concerned with aspects of culture outside of literature and linguistics, in this case with comparisons of German and Polish culture.

Opis:: The number of migrants in contemporary Germany is constantly growing. There are also increasing problems arising as a result of cultural differences between the immigrants and the local population and also due to different habits of both groups. These differences, foreign traditions and their perception in Germany seem to be important topics from viewpoint of cultural studies not only for scientist, but also for students of German Studies, especially if the customs and forms of life become the subject of literature. In the following article the authoress is trying to bring near some of the main cultural differences between migrants and the local community depicted in the literature. To achieve this goal she analyses selected texts of German writers of Turkish origin. She also makes an attempt at answering the question whether and to what extent such a kind of literature can be useful for the audience outside Germany.

Opis:: The contribution discusses the choice of language of French Germanists in their scientific publications. Contrary to the international academic world and the spreading of English in it, this pilot study to a bigger survey shows that the discipline of German Studies in France only uses two languages: German as the object language and the lingua franca of the guild, and French as meta-language and conveying code for the national language community. However as a recent development a slight Anglicisation can be observed.

Opis:: The aim of this paper is semantic classification of German loan words in the Polish language at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. Its research body is the press, published in the period 1890–1910 in Cracow, in the former Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria. This is the time in which Galicia as a part of Austria-Hungary enjoys since 1873 under Polish leadership the complete autonomy. The influence of German is no more as strong as in the pre-autonomous period but it is still there. It comes over in the form of foreign words, borrowings and more or less successful translation loans, which, although constructed of native lexemes of Polish, show their German origin clearly. The paper tries to show which areas of daily life were subject to the greatest influence of German vocabulary and the ways how the assimilation took place.
