Opis:
In this paper, we consider the problem of 3D maps building based on the 3D laser scanner indications. The map of the environmem is represented as a 2D array of cells. Each cell represents rectangular region of the scene and consits of list of objects. The key idea of the system is lines extraction from the raw laser data and assigning them to the proper cells. Based on the lines, a set of objects (planes) is built and assigned to each cell. Objects represent obstacles in the environment. The main advantages of the system are real-time map building and Iow memory consumption. We prove that the system works property in real indoor environment but the system can be extended in order ta buiit the map of uristructured robots surrounding.

Opis:
The paper presents a method of semantic localization of a mobile robot. The robot is equipped with a Sick laser finder and a Kinect sensor. The simplest source of informa tion about an environment is a scan obtained by the range sensor. The polygonal approximation of an observed area is performed. The shape of the polygon allows us to distinguish corridors from other places using a simple rule based system. During the next step rooms are classified based on objects which have been recognized. Each object votes for a set of classes of rooms. In a real environment we deal with uncertainty. Usually probabilistic theory is used to solve the problem but it is not capable of capturing subjective uncertainty. In our approach instead of the classic Bayesian method we proposed to perform classification using Dempster-Shafer theory (DST), which can be regarded as a generalization of the Bayesian theory and is able to deal with subjective uncertainty. The experiments performed in real office environment proved the efficiency of our approach.

Opis:
Grammatical Evolution (GE) is a form of Genetic Programming (GP) based on Context-Free Grammar (CF Grammar). Due to the use of grammars, GE is capable of creating syntactically correct solutions. GE uses a genotype encoding and is necessary to apply a Mapping Process (MP) to obtain the phenotype representation. There exist some well-known MPs in the state-of-art like Breadth-First (BF), Depth-First (DF), among others. These MPs select the codons from the genotype in a sequential manner to do the mapping. The present work proposes a variation in the selection order for genotype’s codons; to achieve that, it is applied a random permutation for the genotype’s codons order-taking in the mapping. The proposal’s results were compared using a statistical test with the results obtained by the traditional BF and DF using the Symbolic Regression Problem (SRP) as a benchmark.

In this article we propose the application of service mobile robots for control of building safety parameters. Indoor mobile robots are becoming a reality and their availability and applications are expected to grow rapidly in the near future. Such robots are usually equipped with cameras and laser range finders, which could be used to detect hazardous situations in their operating environment, such as evacuation route obstructions, emergency sign occlusions or accumulation of dangerous materials. We demonstrate how these safety-related augmentations of a mobile robot system can be achieved with few additional resources and validate experimentally the concept using an indoor robot for emergency sign and evacuation route control.

The paper concerns the research related to the improvement of control and supervision of web connected mobile robots using Physic Processing Unit (PPU). PPU computations taken into the consideration include rigid body dynamics, collision detection and raycasting. The result is improved by Human Machine Interface that allows performing semantic simulation during multi robot task execution. Semantic simulation engine provides tools to implement the mobile robot simulation, which is based on real data delivered by robot’s observations in INDOOR environment. The supervision of real objects such as robots is performed by association with its virtual representation in the simulation, therefore events such as object intersection, robot orientation - pitch and roll are able to be monitored. The simulation can be integrated with real part of the system with an assumption of robust localization of real entities, therefore Augmented Reality capabilities are available.

Opis:
In this paper, we use non-invariant Fourier descriptors to derive transformation variables which allow us to optimally localize and reorient robot-generated maps based on the map shapes in order to determine, in an automated way, the accuracy of the generated maps. Our method uses only 4 simple calculations for alignment, therefore is extremely fast and gives a very good optimization for data maps that contain consistent, high frequency noise. A drawback to this method is occlusions in the map which affect the low frequency Fourier descriptors and cause localization and orientation errors. Preprocessing and optimization can help minimize these drawbacks. This application can be easily adapted to other areas such as image comparison or fault detection.

Teleoperation of unmanned aerial vehicles often demands extensive training. Yet, even well trained pilots are prone to mistakes, resulting frequently in collisions of the vehicle with obstacles. This paper presents a method to assist the tele-operation of a quadrotor using an obstacle avoidance approach. In particular, rough map of the nearby environment is constructed using sonar sensors. This map is constructed using FastSLAM to allow tracking of the vehicle position with respect to the map. The map is then used to override operator commands that may lead to a collision. An unknown and GPS denied environment is considered. Experimental results using the USARsim simulator are presented.

Opis:
This paper presents a developed method of 3D maps integration based on overlapping regions detection and matching that works without an initial guess about transformation between maps. The presented solution is based on a classic pipeline approach from computer vision that has been applied to the 3D maps integration with multiple improvements related to model extraction and the descriptors matching. The process of finding transformation between maps consists of three steps. The first one is the extraction of the model from one of the maps. Then the initial transformation is estimated between extracted model and another map based on feature extraction, description, and matching. The assumption is that the maps have an overlapping area that can be used during the feature‐based alignment. In the last step, the initial so‐ lution is corrected using local alignment approaches, for example, ICP or NDT. The maps are stored in the octree based representation (octomaps) but during transformation estimation, a point cloud representation is used as well. In addition, the presented method was verified in various experiments: in a simulation, with wheeled robots, and with publicly available datasets. Eventually, the solution can be applied to many robotic applications related to the exploration of unknown environments. Nevertheless, so far it was validated with a group of wheeled robots. Furthermore, the developed method has been implemented and released as a part of the open‐source ROS package 3d_map_server.

Opis:
Several methods have been proposed in the literature to address the problem of automatic mapping by a robot using range scan data, under localization uncertainty. Most scan matching methods rely on the minimization of the matching error among individual range scans. However, uncertainty in sensor data often leads to erroneous matching, hard to cope with in a purely automatic approach. This paper proposes a semi-automatic approach, denoted interactive mapping, involving a human operator in the process of detecting and correcting erroneous matches. Instead of allowing the operator complete freedom in correcting the matching in a frame by frame basis, the proposed method facilitates the adjustment along the directions with more ambiguity, while constraining the others. Experimental results using LIDAR data are presented to validate empirically the approach, together with a preliminary user study to evaluate the benefits of the approach.

Non-invasive method of the measurement and identification of shape and geometrical characteristics of measured detail based on the computer tomograph is widely applied in medicine with high efficiency. The paper is aimed at presenting the metrological analysis of the accuracy of shape reproduction. The examined shape was described due to the tomography and compared to the results of coordinate measurement. The comparative accuracy analysis of the tomography was performed for the typical details, as well as for the masters made with high accuracy. Using the results of the analysis, the respective models of measured details were created and used as a nominal in the further investigations. The results of the measurement with tomography were compared with the results achieved from the measurement by means of typical coordinate measuring machines and by means of 3D measurement optical scanner. Analysis of the gained values of the form deviations and important geometrical characteristics enabled to perform complex analysis of the shape reproduction of the examined detail with the method of computer tomography. The main purpose of the performed researches was the determination of the reproduction accuracy of surface measured with non-invasive computer tomography method. The investigations and analysis have been performed with the following equipment: computer tomograph, 3D printer and coordinate optical scanner supported with specialized software for advanced CAD data analysis.

Opis:
This paper presents a vision-based navigation system for mobile robots. It enables the robot to build a map of its environment, localize efficiently itself without use of any artificial markers or other modifications, and navigate without colliding with obstacles. The Simultaneous Localization And Mapping (SLAM) procedure builds a global representation of the environment based on several size limited local maps built using the approach introduced by Davison [1]. Two methods for global map are presented; the first method consists in transforming each local map into a global frame before to start building a new local map. While in the second method, the global map consists only in a set of robot positions where new local maps are started (i.e. the base references of the local maps). In both methods, the base frame for the global map is the robot position at instant . Based on the estimated map and its global position, the robot can find a path and navigate without colliding with obstacles to reach a goal defined the user. The moving objects in the scene are detected and their motion is estimated using a combination of Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) background subtraction approach and a Maximum a Posteriori Probability Markov Random Field (MAP-MRF) framework [2]. Experimental results in real scenes are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Opis:
Path planning plays a vital role in a mobile robot navi‐ gation system. It essentially generates the shortest tra‐ versable path between two given points. There are many path planning algorithms that have been proposed by re‐ searchers all over the world; however, there is very little work focussing on path planning for a service environ‐ ment. The general assumption is that either the environ‐ ment is fully known or unknown. Both cases would not be suitable for a service environment. A fully known en‐ vironment will restrict further expansion in terms of the number of navigation points and an unknown environ‐ ment would give an inefficient path. Unlike other envi‐ ronments, service environments have certain factors to be considered, like user‐friendliness, repeatability, sca‐ lability, and portability, which are very essential for a service robot. In this paper, a simple, efficient, robust, and environment‐independent path planning algorithm for an indoor mobile service robot is presented. Initially, the robot is trained to navigate to all the possible desti‐ nations sequentially with a minimal user interface, which will ensure that the robot knows partial paths in the en‐ vironment. With the trained data, the path planning al‐ gorithm maps all the logical paths between all the des‐ tinations, which helps in autonomous navigation. The al‐ gorithm is implemented and tested using a 2D simulator Player/Stage. The proposed system is tested with two dif‐ ferent service environment layouts and proved to have features like scalability, trainability, accuracy, and repe‐ atability. The algorithm is compared with various classi‐ cal path planning algorithms and the results show that the proposed path planning algorithm is on par with the other algorithms in terms of accuracy and efficient path generation.
