Opis:
Amorphous Boron Powder (ABP) is used as a fuel in air breathing propulsion systems due to its high gravimetric and volumetric heat value. ABP is sensitive to air and undergoes slow oxidation during storage and handling, leading to the formation of a boric acid layer on the particle surface. This paper describes an analytical method for the estimation of boric acid in ABP. In-house samples obtained from the pilot plant of this laboratory, as well as commercial samples, were assayed for their boric acid content. The study is substantiated by characterization of the ABP samples by SEM with EDX and FTIR. The ageing characteristics of in-house boron powder was also studied.

Opis:
The non-isothermal TG/DSC technique has been used to study the kinetic triplet and heat of ignition reaction of ammonium nitrate(V) (AN)/thiourea (TU) pyrotechnic in the presence of Mn2O3 catalyst nanoparticles under an argon atmosphere at different heating rates (5 K·min−1, 10 K·min−1, 15 K·min−1 and 20 K·min−1). The activation energies for the ignition reaction of AN/TU were calculated using the non-isothermal isoconversional Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS) and Friedman equations for different conversion fraction (α) values in the range 0.1-0.9. The pre-exponential factor and kinetic model were determined by means of the compensation effect and the selected model was confirmed by a nonlinear fitting method. The average activation energies in the absence and presence of 5 wt.% Mn2O3 nanoparticles were 110.1 kJ·mol−1 to 117.3 kJ·mol−1 for the reaction model A3 (g(α) = [−ln(1−α)]1/3), and 86.5 kJ·mol−1 to 101.8 kJ·mol−1 for the reaction model A4 (g(α) = [−ln(1−α)]1/4). The evolved heat (ΔH) of ignition reaction in the presence of Mn2O3 was about 4 times that in the absence of the nano-sized Mn2O3.

Opis:
Magnetic Fe3O4@polycitric acid (Fe3O4@PCA) nanoparticles were prepared by the reaction of Fe3O4 nanoparticles with an excess amount of citric acid at 100-160 °C. The magnetic Fe3O4@PCA nanoparticles were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). Finally, the synthesized magnetic Fe3O4@PCA nanoparticles were used as a heterogeneous solid acid catalyst for the synthesis of HBIW from benzylamine and glyoxal in acetonitrile-water solvent under ultrasonic irradiation conditions. The catalyst could be reused up to 6 times without significant loss of activity.

Opis:
All of the possible TNAZ/H2O complexes (1, 2 and 3), as well as the uncomplexed form, were fully optimized with the density functional method. Complex 3 was the most stable, with the largest corrected intermolecular interaction energy. Charge redistribution mainly occurs on the adjacent N–O...H atoms of the submolecules. Strong hydrogen bonds predominantly contribute to the interaction energies. It is energetically and thermodynamically unfavourable for TNAZ to bind with H2O and to form any stable complexes at room temperature.

Opis:
A new group of insecticides belonging to the category of bio-pesticides, namely – spinosyns, is discussed. The spinosyns are the products of bacterial fermentation by microorganisms Saccharopolyspora spinosa (Actinomycetes group) in a nutrient media. The chemical structures of spinosyns, also those developed by the semi-synthetic and biochemical modifications, as well as their insecticidal properties and mechanism of biological activity, the range of their application in crop protection and the commercially available products based on them, are reviewed.
