- Article presents an analysis of performance of a Line Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine LSPMSM, using analytical, magnetically linear model. Analytical model has been validated with the means of a FEM model, similarly to constructions described in previous author's works. It has been shown, that saturation of steel bridges under all operation conditions, allows to treat them as material with air permeability in magnetically linear model. Two types of LSPMSM has been compared, with magnets in rotor forming letters "C" and "U", assuming the same volume of permanent magnet material in both designs. Analysis of the no-load induced voltage has been performed, to find the "C-Shape" construction to be more suitable for the generator appliance. The paper also contains an analysis of the influence of nonlinear magnetizing characteristic B(H) in iron on machine's parameters. Calculation experiments has been conducted to point out the difficulty to determine the relative iron permeability in magnetically linear model, to make it correspond with nonlinear one. It can however be found to give satisfying results, as shown in the paper.
