Opis:
In the time, when the whole world is increasingly engaged in environmental protection, it is necessary to come up with a fuel alternative for transportation, which means generally abandon the use of non-renewable resources (petrol, oil and fossil fuel in general), as they are one of the many factors influencing the emergence of greenhouse gases and the associated global warming. In today's Europe, the pressure is put mainly on automotive companies, to search for sources other than conventional fuels. At present, there is a big boom in the area of electric cars powered from the power network – the vast majority of electric energy, however, is produced in fossil fuel power plants. The second option of possible development in this area is the use of hydrogen as an alternative fuel. This technology, whether it be direct combustion as in diesel or eventually in petrol engines, or energy production in a hydrogen fuel cell, is certainly the way suitable for further development. With hydrogen as a fuel, it is possible to reduce pollutants almost to zero. The article presents a comparison of electricity generated using renewable and non-renewable sources and focuses on a closer understanding of the myth of the dangers connected with using hydrogen as fuel. Furthermore, compares conventional fuels to re-newable hydrogen technologies and focuses on the hydrogen combustion engines together with hydrogen storage and application in transportation.

Opis:
Mining industry is currently one of the biggest industries in the world. All mines produce “indispensable” minerals, starting from fuels such as coal and ending with noble metals such as gold or copper. Mines in the world compete in the volumes of mined minerals what requires use of state-of-the-art, more efficient and, and what is more important, safer machines. Such trend favors development of technology and mobilize engineers to adapt the technologies that were used so far in easier environment to the needs of the mining industry. The article presents the issue of energy recuperation in mining battery locomotives. Simulation tests of the power supply and control system of the Lea type battery locomotive are discussed. The results of tests on the electric energy consumption of the locomotive during the operational change in the mine were presented, which were referred to the simulation results. Factors influencing the efficiency of energy recovery and the risk resulting from hydrogen emission in the recuperation process have been indicated. Also discussed is the study of the concentration of hydrogen concentration emitted from the battery of lead-acid cells during their recharging in the process of electrical braking with energy recuperation.

Opis:
The article presents idea of installation to energy storage in the form of hydrogen - Power to Gas (P2G). The results of laboratory tests carried out at the Silesian University of Technology in the Institute of Power Engineering and Turbomachinery (IMiUE), covering selected aspects of hydrogen generators most frequently used in these types of installations are presented. The influence of water conductivity and temperature during continuous operation of the electrolyzer at constant current value and in operation at variable current on the efficiency of the tested devices are shown. A hydrogen generator equipped with two AEM electrolyzers with a performance of 0.5 Nm3H2/h and a generator containing four PEM electrolyzers connected in series, with a maximum performance of 1.58 Ndm3/min were tested. The efficiency characteristics of the electrolysis process, efficiency of the electrolyzers and changes in the resistance values for both types of electrolyzers were presented. Calculations to estimate effect of temperature change on the efficiency characteristic of AEM electrolyzers were also made.
