Opis:
The analysis of shoreline change trends is fundamental to a broad range of investigations undertaken by coastal scientists, coastal engineers, and coastal managers, as well as the government, in this case, the coastal development policy-maker. In order to know the changing of shoreline position around the coastal area of Kuala Terengganu, an analysis and then simulation of shoreline change was performed over, respectively, 2 years, 3 years and 4 years. In this simulation, the longshore distance was divided into 87 cells of length 34 m. Shoreline positions from satellite imagery in 2010 were used in this simulation as the initial condition. Based on the numerical result, both erosion (north side) and accretion (south side) occurred around the Sultan Mahmud Airport, Kuala Terengganu. The average erosion and accretion during the 4 year period is 42.93 m and 40.89 m, respectively.

Opis:
The model for the free nonlinear oscillation of the slider-crank mechanism is very complicated and difficult to solve accurately using most of the existing approximate analytical schemes. However, the continuous piecewise linearization method (CPLM), which is a recently proposed semi-analytical algorithm, is capable of producing simple and accurate periodic solutions for conservative systems irrespective of the complexity of the nonlinear restoring force. Hence, this study applied the CPLM to solve and analyze the complex nonlinear oscillations arising in the slider-crank mechanism. The CPLM results were verified using numerical solutions and it was found that the CPLM solution was accurate to less than 1.0% for angular amplitudes up to 165°. Analysis of the frequency-amplitude response revealed the existence of asymptotic behaviour as the ratio of the crank radius to the connecting rod length approaches zero or unity. Hence, oscillation models for the observed asymptotic responses were derived and found to be significantly simpler compared to the original oscillation model. Finally, analysis of the large-amplitude oscillations of the slider-crank mechanism revealed the presence of strong anharmonic response.

Opis:
The aim of present work is the development of a quasi-steady state model for the time course concentration profile describing the oxygen diffusion and consumption in a multilayered corneal tissue and investigation of the effect of various model parameters on the oxygen concentration for open and closed eyes. A simple mathematical model for the oxygen transport in multilayered corneal tissue was developed using Fick’s law of diffusion, Michaelis-Menten kinetics of metabolism. A Crank-Nicolson finite difference scheme of the equation describing the oxygen diffusion and consumption was written, in which spatial diffusive terms of the equation were approximated by central differences while the temporal terms were approximated by average of forward and backward time differences. A system of linear equations obtained from the Crank-Nicholson finite differences schemes was solved by the Thomas Algorithm in which successive improve approximate results are obtained.
