Opis:
The main aim of the present study is to develop an automatic method to identify and classify the different cell types of bacilli bacterial cells in digital microscopic cell images using active contour method. Snakes, or active contours, are used widely in computer vision and machine learning applications, particularly to locate object boundaries. GLCM, HOG and LBP features are used to identify the arrangement of bacilli bacterial cells, namely, bacillus, cocobacilli, diplobacilli, palisades and streptobacilli using SVM classifier. The current methods rely on the subjective reading of profiles by a human expert based on the various manual staining methods. In this paper, it is proposed a method for bacilli bacterial cell classification by segmenting digital bacterial cell images using active contour model and extracting GLCM, HOG and LBP features. The experimental results proves that, the SVM classifier has yielded an overall accuracy of 97.2% with GLCM features, HOG features has yielded an accuracy of 74.8% and LBP features yielded 91.2% accuracy. The GLCM features with SVM classifier has got good classification results compared to HOG and LBP feature sets for bacilli bacteria cell types.

A Microbial Fuel Cell is a device where the bacteria can grow on one electrode, they breakdown organic matter and release electrons from it. The bacteria can do this by keeping them separate from the oxygen, and when they release those electrons it creates a potential between the two electrodes of about half a volt and voltage times current is power, and that is how power is generated from it. But MFCs are not restricted to generating power they can also be used to produce biofuels. Process can also be used to extract hydrogen and methane using appropriate membrane between the anode and cathode. Given paper explores this spectrum of scenarios and speculates the possibility of generating power using the Himalayan top soil.

Dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) shows great promise as an alternative to conventional p-n junction solar cells due to their low fabrication cost and reasonably high efficiency. DSSC was assembled by using natural dye extracted from red amaranth (Amaranthus Gangeticus) as a sensitizer and different catalysts for counter electrode were applied for maximum energy conversion efficiency. Annealing temperature and thickness of electrode were also investigated and optimized. Catalyst, annealing temperature and thickness were optimized by the determination of cell performance considering photoelectrochemical output and measuring current and voltage; then calculating efficiency and other electrical parameters. The experimental results indicated that samples having 40 μm electrode thickness and prepared at 450 o C annealing temperature showed the best performance.

Opis:
Plummer Vinson syndrome, also known as ‘Paterson Brown-Kelly’ syndrome is a syndrome associated with the triad of symptoms comprising microcytic hypochromic anaemia, oesophageal strictures and dysphagia. PVS (Plummer Vinson Syndrome) is commonly found in women of middle age especially in the fourth and fifth decade of life and is rarely reported in males and young females. Symptoms resulting from anaemia predominate the clinical picture, apart from additional features such as glossitis, angular cheilitis, and dysphagia. Dysphagia, however, is the main clinical feature of PVS. PVS carries an increased risk of development of squamous cell carcinoma of oesophagus and pharynx[1]. A classic case report of PVS associated with swelling of the salivary gland with clinical features, oral manifestations, malignant potential, differential diagnosis, investigation, and treatment is discussed here. This article carries the message that oral and pharyngeal manifestations should be considered to rule out malignancy in PVS, moreover, that PVS increases the risk factor of salivary gland squamous cell carcinoma. Early identification and diagnosis improves the prognosis and better chances of survival. We have to be familiar, therefore, with the oral manifestations of anaemia and be able to suspect PVS to aid in early diagnosis and prompt treatment. This case study was taken from Medcare hospital, Karimnagar, Telangana.

Zinc oxide thin films was deposited by chemical spray pyrolysis (CSP) at 400 °C substrate temperature and different thickness (60, 80, and 100) nm on the texturized p-Si wafer to fabricate ZnO/p-Si heterojunction solar cell. Structural, optical, electrical and photovoltaic properties are investigated for the samples. XRD analysis reveals that all the as deposited ZnO films show polycrystalline structure, without any change due to increase of thickness. Average diameter calculated from AFM images shows an increase in its value with increasing thickness, ranging from 59.82-95.7 nm. The optical reflections for samples are measured using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Photoluminescence (PL) spectra of (CSP) grown ZnO/p-Si with different thickness were used to study the energy gap. The electrical properties of heterojunction were obtained by I-V (dark and illuminated) and C-V measurement. I-V characteristic of the ZnO/p-Si heterojunction shows good rectifying behavior under dark condition. The ideality factor and the saturation current density was calculated. Under illuminated the photovoltaic measurements (open-circuit voltage (Voc), short-circuit current density (JSC), fill factor (FF), and quantum efficiencies are calculated for all samples. The built- in potential (Vbi), carrier concentration and depletion width are determined under different thickness from C-V measurement.

The article focuses on the use of thermoelectrics for the energy harvesting from waste heat. There were discussed the thermoelectric effects and the solutions of converting the waste heat into electricity were shown. The application and operation of thermoelectrics for heat recovery from cars, the cogeneration of heat for home and in wristwatches were presented. An analysis of the possibilities of using Peltier cells in municipal and long-distance transport was conducted. The aim of the study was to evaluate the possibility of reducing fuel costs by obtaining electricity from the Peltier cells instead of the alternator. The efficiency tests of operation the Peltier cells were carried out. On their basis was possible to determine the amount of recovered energy thanks to their use. On the basis of calculations it was concluded that at the current price of unit cell, the use of this solution is not fully economically justifiable. However, there are possible solutions that could increase the efficiency of the cell. The advantages of using cells is reducing the vehicle engine wear and emission of harmful substances into the environment. It was found that most justifiable is the mounting of cells in vehicles equipped with multiple electrical receivers with low efficiency of the engine. It was indicated that more and more new thermoelectric materials that provide efficient and cheap energy harvesting on a large scale are looking for. In Google Patents and Espacenet are posted many solutions of waste heat recovery, which indicates that this field is constantly evolving.

Opis:
The primary physical and chemical parameters that define the hypopolarized plasma cell membrane of malignant (cancer) cells compared to non-malignant cells reflect universal characteristics. The median value for the resting membrane potential is the constant for the Nernst equation without reference to discrepancies in ion concentrations and is identical to Boltzmann energies at 37 °C. The threshold energy defining space-time converges with access to entropic processes that are reflected in the morphology of cancer cells and tumors. Slowing of growth in cancer cell lines but not normal cells following exposure to weak (~1 to 10 μT) patterned magnetic fields occurs when the energy induced within the cell corresponds to the energy equivalent of the hypopolarized membrane potential. The optimal temporal parameters for the efficacy of these fields can be derived from Hubble‟s parameter and the transform function for “noise” or “random” patterns within the system. Quantitative solutions and experimental data indicate that the cancer cell may be dominated by entropic process that can be attenuated or blocked by temporally-structured applied magnetic fields whose intensity matches the increment of energy associated with this threshold.

Published information about anatomical studies of the lignocellulosic material derived from the rhizomes of Thaumatococcus daniellii is almost non-existent, thereby necessitating this current study. This is aimed at examining, microscopically, the anatomical features of the cell wall structure of this plant’s rhizomes. Consequently, rhizomes differentiated into sections, based on the mean height of stalks growing on each section, were harvested in the arboretum of the Department of Forest Resources and Wildlife Management, University of Benin campus, Benin City Nigeria, washed thoroughly with clean water to remove sand from the surface, placed in ethanol, taken to the laboratory and further fixed in increasingly concentrated ethanol for periods ranging from 1 to 3 hours. Using a microtome, thin slices of tissues 30μm thickness were obtained from the different sections along the rhizomes in the cross-sectional transverse and longitudinal planes, stained, mounted on glass slides and dried. Observation of tissues mounted on glass slides, including capturing of photomicrographs, were carried out by employing a photomicroscope at 40X magnification. On analysing the different photomicrographs, we saw that the anatomical features of the cell wall for lignocellulosic tissues from the different parts of the rhizome were similar in preponderance and shape in each of the planes. It is expected that the outcome of this research will contribute to the series of background information needed in utilisation and for further researches that will improve knowledge concerning this lignocellulosic material.
