Opis:
There are a number of factors to keep our health in good condition. One of them is the role of the proper amount of nutrient metals which play the important role in many reactions in the body and it becomes increasingly evident that keeping a balance level of nutrient metals in every organ is very important for maintaining a healthy body, although metals comprise only a fraction of total body weight (mg). They play crucial role for many body functions in the metabolic regulations of the human body including transporting oxygen, normalizing the nervous system. The present investigation is focused to find out the different nutrient metals that exist in the vegetable Cucurbita pepo (squash) a source of natural nutrient metals abandance and to determine the relative concentration of each metal element. Investigation has been performed on the skin, the flesh, the seed, the leaves, the stems and the roots of squash to determine the relative levels of concentrations of various metals such as elements such as Al, Ca, Cd, Co,Cr, Fe,K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, Pb and Zn. The Atomic Absorption Spectrometry technique is used. The proper vegetable consumption can improve the mineral and trace metal regulation and reduce cardiovascular diseases and certain cancer risks.

Opis:
Diabetes is a major disease condition that is accountable for 5% of annual cause of death globally and it continues to escalate. In this research the levels of minerals in persons with type 2 diabetes were investigated using hair as the biopsy specimen. The philosophy behind is that minerals are involved in countless metabolic functions in all phases of the life process, an imbalance of which can have widespread implication, while hair due to its physiology serves an invaluable record of the body's exposure to minerals. Hair metal testing is a fascinating new diagnostic tool and often gives unexpected clues to mineral imbalances in the body. In executing the research samples of head hair collected from 6 type 2 diabetic patients were washed to remove exogenous contaminants, then subjected to open vessel acid digestion and subsequent analysis for the elements Ca, Cd, Cr, Cu Fe, K, Mg, Na and Zn using Flame Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (FLAAS). After comparing the concentration of the elements to a range that is considered to be normal it was found that Ca, Zn, Fe, Mg, K, Cu, Cd and Cr were off range while Na was normal. Upon investigating the function and effects of the elements that were off range it was found that a deficiency of chromium and an excess of iron could be a possible cause of diabetes.

Opis:
Calotropis (Asclepiadaceae) commonly known as “madar” is a useful medicinal plant. The two species i.e. Calotropis gigantea and Calotropis procera are to a great extent having a very similar chemical properties, but the colours of their flowers are different. The pH of latex of these two species has been found different in the present study. The temperature effects have been noticed on their pH values which is varying from 7.2 to 8.1 between the temperatures 25 °C to 45 °C and then remains constant for Calotropis gigantia. The milky latex contains hydrocarbons, fatty acids, sterols and terpenels. Seven spots have been observed on the TLC plates; out of which 3 were identified as calotoxin, uscharin and calactin. Aluminum, calcium, cadmiun, cobalt, chromium, copper, iron, magnese, magnesium, nickel, lead, and zinc metal elements were investigated in the latex and similarly in the leaves and bark from the AA spectra. The amount of magnese was found the highest in the latex of both species but calcium was found highest in leaves and bark of both species. Copper, chromium and lead were not found at all in latex but a very little amount of copper and lead were found in leaves and bark. The atomic absorption spectrophotometer was used to investigate the metals which were measured in the order of ppm.

Opis:
The current study was aimed to find out the heavy metal concentration of groundwater in the Veppanthattai block. Here, 45 water samples from different sites were collected during the year 2015 at post monsoon, and Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb and Zn heavy metal content was analyzed using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS), The obtained results were then compared with the WHO standard for the specific highest pollution level. Accordingly, some or all water samples are above the permissible limit, particularly for Cd metal (all samples). The elevated concentration of cadmium in water samples of the study area may be due to agricultural runoff, as pesticides and cadmium-containing fertilizer have been used. The study showed that without proper treatment, the groundwater of the study area is not suitable for domestic applications.

Opis:
Eichhornia crassipes is a floating macrophyte. It is capable of assimilating large quantities of toxic metals, some of which are essential for plant growth. Water Hyacinth grows rapidly in water with a high level of nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorous. The plants have been shown to absorb trace elements such as Silver (Ag), Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd) and Copper (Cu) reported by Lu et al [1]. The purpose of this study is to determine the distribution of heavy metals in different parts of the Water Hyacinth . Such a detail study has been taken for the first time. It is expected that the metal distribution within the plant species would be a representation of the concentration and distribution of the water in which it is found. Plants have the ability to accumulate non-essential and essential trace elements and this ability could be harnessed to remove pollutant metals from the environment. Aluminum, cadmium, calcium, copper, iron, lead, magnesium and zinc have been found in different amounts in roots, stems , leaves and flowers.

The present study was initiated to understand the accumulation of toxic heavy metals in sediments of Bhavan's College Lake of Andheri, Mumbai. The study was performed for a period of one year starting from June 2011 to May 2012 to quantify the toxic heavy metals like Cu, Pb, Cr, Ni, Fe, Hg, As and Cd by atomic absorption spectroscopy technique coupled with cold vapour technique (for Hg analysis) and hydride generation technique(for As analysis). It was observed that the yearly average concentrations of these heavy metals in lake sediments were 0.53, 0.25, 0.42, 0.43, 4.6, 0.14, 0.12 and 0.11 ppm respectively which were above the WHO limits for aquatic life and CPCB limits for inland surface water. These heavy metals accumulated in lake sediments may enter the water thereby creating threat to aquatic life. They may enter the food chain through biomagnifications and may create adverse effect on human health. It is expected that in addition to the water analysis which is practiced for years, sediment analysis performed in the present investigation will help in evaluating quality of the total ecosystem of the lake. It will also provide environmentally significant information about natural and anthropogenic influence on the water body.
