Opis:
Exchange rate is identified as a factor for turning vector of the economic growth of countries which was empirically confirmed by several related studies. But in Sri Lankan context it was not confirmed. Therefore, the objective of this study was to test the impact of exchange rate on the economic growth in Sri Lanka. To achieve this objective, the annual time series data from 1970 to 2015 were used and the variables such as gross domestic product, exchange rate, inflation rate, and interest rate were considered and the multiple regressions model using Ordinary Least squared method was employed. Based on the outcome of the multiple regression model, this study confirmed that the exchange rate positively influenced on the economic growth in Sri Lanka at one percent significant level.

The goal of the study is to analyze the causes of rapid increase of hepatitis A morbidityratein Poland in 2017. In December 2016, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) published a report concerning increase in the number of hepatitis A cases in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands in 2016 caused by two new virus serotypes previously detected in patients in Berlin. Spain, Italy and Germany also reported a regional increase incidence of HAV at that time. In addition to the increase in the number of cases, there was a disproportion between the incidence of women and men and a high percentage of patients declaring homosexual orientation. Patients were not vaccinated against Hepatitis A in the vast majority of cases. In Poland from 1st January 2017 until 12th October 2017 there have been1680 cases of hepatitis A, while in 2016 there have been only 27 infected. Until now, the main route of hepatitis A virus transmission was the faecal - oral path caused by the consumption of contaminated food and lack of hygiene. Based on data from the Voivodship Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Poland and from the report of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC),the number of cases of sexual contact increased. The current situation in Europe is correlated with epidemiological data in Poland - most of infected are young men. The increasing number of incidence of HAV infection among MSM ( man who have sex with man) is a matter of concern due to the difficulties in interrupting the spreading of the epidemic and the prevention of secondary infections related to the participation of infected in the production and trade of food. The hepatitis A vaccine may be use for a prophylactic purpose, protective vaccinations for homosexual men are now particularly recommended. The information compaignes also play an important role in the prevention of the spread of hepatitis A infection. We can make a thesis based on information obtained. The deterioration of the epidemiological situation in Poland could be a consequence of the increase morbidity rate in the European Union countries.

Opis:
Accumulation of municipal solid waste in residential areas is one of the public health problems in Iraq. In the other hand, accurate and reliable information on solid waste generation rate are very important elements to plan and implement solid waste management system. The volume and surface area required for a landfill to dispose the municipal solid wastes generated in Baghdad city is evaluated in this study. The per capita solid wastes generation rates are measured for a family consists of 10 individuals by using portable balance (Salter, 0 to 130 kg). Probability sampling is used to determine the minimum number of measurements needed to evaluate the mean of per capita solid wastes generation rate with a certain level of precision (a specified error level of 5% is selected corresponds to 95% confidence that the mean value is in accurate estimate of the true value). The results indicate that an area of approximately 1603 m on a side is required for the next 20 years as a sanitary landfill for disposing the municipal solid wastes generated in Baghdad city.

Opis:
The use of Luffa cylindrica (LC) and Mucuna sloanei (MS) seeds as coagulants in the removal of dye by coag-flocculation was evaluated using a new approach. The approach uses the coag-flocculation rate constant K11, calculated using experimental data obtained while using LC and MS as coagulants in coag-flocculation process as a valid indicator to determine the optimum condition. The research also applied criterion for critical coag-flocculation rate constant Kc to satisfy World Health Organization’s minimum allowable level of suspended substance for wastewater discharge. In the criterion K11 ≥ Kc indicates better performance. The results indicated that K11 of 0.00214 L/mg·min for LC and 0.00208 L/mg·min for MS surpassed 0.00016 L/mg·min Kc value. This was observed for LC and MS at pH 2, but 1400 mg/L and 1200 mg/L, respectively. From the above, in accordance with the WHO guideline, the dosage of both coagulants meets the requirement. The solution pH could not meet the standard. Nonetheless, MS satisfied the requirement at pH 6, for dosage and pH. These results correspond to what was obtained experimentally. Therefore, in coag-flocculation kinetic modeling, this novel approach can be considered to track the efficiency of these sensitive factors in water treatment plants to meet the effluent quality requirements.

Opis:
Rice (Oryza species) is a unique annual cereal food crop growing under flooded condition up to 3000 m.a.s.l and pH 4.5-8.5. Production of rice depends on several factors: climate and crop management. Varieties had significant influence on grain yield, Protein content, number of spike and 1000 grain weight. Total dry matter and crop growth rate observed due to interaction of N rate and varieties. Low tillering varieties particularly short duration ones gave low number of panicles m-2 while high tillering cultivars caused competition and more shading consequently low yield. The optimum plant spacing of rice must be identified to obtain high yield, through different utilization of below and above ground resources. Nitrogen availability involved directly or indirectly in the enlargement and division of new cells, and production of tissues which is responsible for increase in growth characteristics particularly tiller numbers, finally determining the number of panicles and spikelet’s. N fertilization of rice is affected by varieties, soil type and climatic fluctuations between years, mainly environmental temperature. The interaction effect of varieties, N rate and row spacing significantly determine 1000 grain weight, straw yield and grain yield of rice.

Opis:
The conventional processes of biological nitrogen removal based on nitrification and denitrification does not fit properly into the concept of the circular economy. As the alternative one should consider the deammonification process, which is a combination of partial nitrification (nitritation) and Anammox processes. It consists of removing ammonium nitrogen from wastewater under anaerobic conditions by a group of autotrophic microorganisms. The result is a significant reduction in oxygen demand, while there is no a need for organic compounds that can be converted into biogas in digesters. The deammonification process can be successfully used to treat leachate from the sludge management of WWTP. Currently, research works focus on the use of this process for wastewater treatment in the mainstream of WWTP. This type of research, on a pilot scale, was also carried out at Gdańsk WWTPs. The aim of the presented research was the analysis of the possibility of a simultaneous removal of nitrates, generated during the mentioned deammonification process. The dissolved organic compounds present in the mechanically and chemically treated wastewater can be used in the denitrification process. The efficiency of the process has been determined by performing conventional denitrification rate tests (NUR). The average values of NUR 1 (2.75 mg NOx / gvss ∙ h) and NUR 2 (1.05 NOx / gvss ∙ h) were close to the values typical for mechanically treated municipal sewage. It has been shown that the denitrification process can cause an increase of total nitrogen removal efficiency in the process of deammonification of municipal wastewater. The amount of available organic compounds was sufficient to carry out the denitrification process of nitrates produced during the deammonification process.

Opis:
Economists believe the interest rate is an interim agent for savings, which promotes the people to lose their present consumption continuously. So, this study also assumed that there was a relationship between the interest rate and savings. Based on that, the objective of this study was to explore the interest rate dynamics on savings in Sri Lank over the period of 1977 to 2017. In this study annual time series data for the following variables: interest rate, savings, and gross domestic product were used, and the Johansen and Juselius cointegration technique was employed to test the cointegration relationship between the variables. In this study, interest rate was considered as key independent variable and savings was dependent variable. Both Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) and Kwiatkowski – Phillips – Schmidt – Shin tests were employed to test the stationarity of the variables. In terms of these tests, all variable were stationary at first difference level. Furthermore, interest rate and savings had the long run relationship and there was short-run causality between interest rate and savings which was confirmed by the results of Vector Error Correction model (VECM). Therefore, the interest rate had long - run and short - run relationship on the savings in Sri Lanka. Finally, this study recommends the policy makers should consider interest rate friendly policy to boost the savings in Sri Lanka.

Opis:
Background: Active labour market policies (ALMP) are relatively new government programmes for Central European countries. The Visegrad Group (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) have enjoyed economic growth since 1989, when Soviet Union influence decreased. Second event, which triggered their rapid growth, was the membership in the European Union of all V4 countries in 2004. The most important and still unsolved problem among these countries is the unemployment. In many economies, both developed and developing, we can assume that proper labour market policy can be a source of legitimacy for governments (King and Rothstein 1994, p. 291). This article addresses the question about the value of ALMP in relationship between government performance on the one hand and citizen satisfaction and trust in government on the other. Research aims: The aim of the study is to compare three main categories of ALMP (public employment services, training schemas, employment subsidies) in the V4 member states and analysis of their impact to legitimacy of governments according to the three hypotheses: (1) the trade-off hypothesis, (2) the synergy hypothesis and (3) the independence hypothesis. Methodology: The adopted research method was an analysis of the reports of the public sector in the Visegrad Group countries, as well as foreign and national literature studies. Key findings: The analysed research results clearly show a different approach in performance of ALMP in the V4 member states. Well performed active labour market policy (for example signified by low unemployment rate) is a source of legitimacy for governments according to the synergy hypothesis.

Opis:
Natural landscape features are considered to be one of the most significant factors determining spatial distribution of tourist traffic in case of long-term holidays. This type of vacations seems to be crucial for economic impact of the tourism, as tourism multiplier points out accommodation as services with largest further turnover. Perception of the natural environment may be very subjective, however some of its elements can be easily measured and compared, thus may be treated as a specific determinant having influence on tourism. Therefore the paper is an attempt to find a statistical relationship, measured by correlation, between the size of forests, protected areas and surface of inland waters, as well as their share in the overall area of administrative units, and the number of beds in tourist accommodation establishments and their occupancy rate in years 2012 and 2014. The research area was Eastern Region of Poland (by NUTS 1 classification), which covers Podlaskie, Lubelskie, Podkarpackie and Świętokrzyskie provinces. The advantage of such delimitation is an analysis of areas with inner landscape diversification, from lake sites and plains in the north, through uplands and low hills in the center, to mountains in the south. Moreover, this region is also famous for the presence of numerous and varied forms of nature conservation. In the paper statistical measures were used and the main source of data were databases of Central Statistical Office of Poland.
