Opis:
The structural and sequence stratigraphy of a Niger Delta onshore field has been analysed from seismic and biostratigraphy data in order to assess the hydrocarbon potential of the area. Seven faults F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6 and F7 were delineated in the seismic sections. The faults, F1, F4, F6 and F7 are synthetic faults, while F2, F3 and F5 are antithetic. Two horizons H1 and H2 were identified in the seismic sections within the time window of 2200-2600 ms. The seismic sequence stratigraphy analysis revealed five sequence boundaries S1, S2, S3, S4 and S5, which represent four depositional sequences. Four maximum flooding surfaces (MFS) were also delineated in the seismic data. The analysis of the biostratigraphy data thus revealed four sequence boundaries (S1, S2, S3, S4) and three maximum surfaces (MFS1, MFS2 and MF3). The age of the sequence boundary ranges from 13.1Ma to 8.3 Ma. The age of the observed maximum flooding surfaces ranges from 12.8 Ma to 9.4 Ma. In vertical succession, the depositional sequences were identified by the order; sequence boundary, lowstand system tract (LST), Transgressive system tract (TST), Maximum flooding surface (MFS), and Highstand system tract (HST). The lowstand system tract is made up of stacking pattern of sand, while the transgressive system tract thinned into the condense section.

Opis:
The complex nature of flow dynamic of water at the subsurface makes it difficult to characterize directly the processes taking place in a porous medium. As a result, carrying out studies on the characteristics of contaminants at the subsurface often relies on indirect measurements of the parameters of the system. To overcome these difficulties and provide information on the subsurface, the continuous use of tracers in simulation studies to model hydrological characteristics at the subsurface has provided an important tool for understanding the flow and mixing dynamics of water resource systems. Results obtained from this radial flow tracer test shows coefficient of longitudinal and transverse dispersion of 2.104×10-3 m2s-1 and 1.54×10-3 m2s-1 respectively, longitudinal and transverse dispersivity of 1.73m and 1.27m respectively. Multidimensional transport in an aquifer involves both longitudinal and transverse dispersion in addition to advection process. Transverse dispersion in an aquifer spreads dissolved contaminant by molecular diffusion when flow velocity of groundwater is highly low. Initial concentration of dissolved contaminants at the point of release can produce an upstream spreading in a longitudinal transverse direction by molecular dispersion which is a diffusion-like process in an aquifer. Results obtained from tracer test can be used to characterize a site and for groundwater monitoring. Having basic knowledge of some physical processes taking place at the subsurface such as that produced from tracer test can also help in the design of environmental network to evaluate possible accidental migration of contaminants once it occur in aquifers and plan suitable mitigation actions to safeguard our water resource.

Opis:
This investigation inspects the contemporary Niger Delta crisis and its socioeconomic problems, as well as the underdevelopment status in the region from one hand and the nation on the other hand to the discovery cum exploration of raw petroleum stores in huge amounts utilizing the Resource Curse hypothesis as a core interest. The investigation contended that the discovery of oil and its exploration in huge amount throughout the years has produced clashes as opposed to harmony between the host communities, the multinational corporations as well as the Government on the on hand, and has generated intra and inter-communal crisis on the other hand. The study addresses these substances and relates same to the exercises of the Federal Government of Nigeria and the act of Quasi-federalism in the nation since her freedom. The study embraces the recorded and scientific structure as it methodological part. This means that relevant data for the study were derived from secondary sources via; textbooks, journal articles, official documents, and web materials. Above all, the investigation proffers valuable suggestions to be embraced by the government of the league to take out blended emotions and crisis in the host communities just as that between the worldwide companies, government and the oil rich communities in the Niger Delta. Likewise of significance, is an extreme way to deal with crisis is for the Government to dispense with the underdevelopment status of the nation in the global financial cum political field?

Opis:
The study was carried out in coastal region of Niger Delta, Nigeria. This study was aimed at evaluating the effect of seawater intrusion and corrosion tendency on coastal aquifer. In other to achieve this aim, 24 groundwater samples was measured and analyzed for various hydrochemical parameters. Results obtained from the study revealed that groundwater was considered to fresh water based on TDS value obtained. Findings from geochemical model showed that 71 % of groundwater samples showed trace of seawater intrusion, while the remaining 29 % showed no trace of seawater intrusion. The value obtained from corrosivity indices such as Chloride-Sulfate Mass Ratio (CSMR) revealed that 33% of groundwater showed no galvanic corrosion potential, 67% showed galvanic corrosion potential, findings obtained from Revelle Index (RI) showed that 2 % of groundwater was not influenced by salinization, 96 % was slightly influenced by salinization and 2% strongly influenced by salinization. Values obtained from Larson-Skold Index (LSI) showed that groundwater samples were classified to be high in corrosion expect for sample locations pH/07 and 23. The plot of Cl¯/HCO3¯ against Cl¯ revealed that 98% of groundwater were classified to be slightly/moderately influenced by sea water intrusion, 2 % was strongly influenced by seawater. Findings from Chadba plots suggested that 97 % of groundwater were of Ca2+ - Mg2+- ˗ Cl¯ water type, 2% were of Na+ ˗ Cl¯ water type and 1% is of Ca2+ - Mg2+ - HCO3¯ water type. On a general note, it was observed that seawater intrusion slightly influenced groundwater of the study area.
