Opis:
In the present paper the uni-univalent and uni-bivalent ion exchange reactions were investigated using nuclear grade anion exchange resin Indion-223 in H+ form. For both H+/K+ uni-univalet ion exchange reactions and H+/Mg2+ uni-bivalet ion exchange reactions, the equilibrium constant K values increases from 0.01710 to 0.02374 and from 0.000177 to 0.000333 respectively as the reaction temperature rises from 35.0 °C to 45.0 °C. The increase in K values with temperature suggest endothermic ion exchange reactions having the enthalpy change values of 22.72 and 51.46 kJ/ mol respectively. The results of such studies will help in selection of suitable ion exchange resins in order to bring about efficient separation of different ionic species present in the waste water effluents released from nuclear as well as chemical process industries.

In this research work, a deterministic mathematical model for schistosomiasis transmission dynamics is presented. The model consists of five non-liniar ordinary differential equations incorporating the acute and chronic infectious compartments. The basic reproductive number, (the number of secondary infections when a single infectious individual is introduced into a population where everyone is susceptible) was obtained. Furthermore, we gained and analyzed for stability, the disease-free and endemic equilibrium. The qualitative feature of the model shows that the long-term behavior of the model is independent of initial conditions. Numerical simulation of the various state variables were obtained using matlab software.

In this work, a large number of optical model available parameters were used to calculate the inverse reaction cross section and compared to investigate the effect of the mass number and incident particle energy on the inverse reaction cross section. All the calculations were performed using MATHLAB programming language.

Opis:
Stability of structures such as embankments, dams and natural riverside slopes are hampered due to the seismic loading. To evaluate the seismic effect on the stability of slopes is a major concern in the field of geotechnical engineering. Two-dimensional limit equilibrium method (LEM) is a common approach for analyzing slope stability. Usually LEM is used to find out potential failure mechanisms and factors of safety for the slopes. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of seismic loading on the stability of Mahananda River Embankment of Bangladesh by using LEM. The Bishop, Spencer, Fellenius, Janbu and Morgenster-price simplified methods were used for LEM. To conduct the study three locations of Mahananda River Embankment were selected. Soil properties were obtained from laboratory testing. The numerical analysis was carried out using geotechnical software GEO5 which is generally used for analyzing LEM based slope stability problems. From the analysis, it was noted that the factors of safety decreased with the increase of horizontal seismic coefficient for the slopes. The horizontal seismic coefficient alone affects the stability of slope severely than the combined effect of horizontal and vertical seismic coefficient. The results concluded that the present condition of the Mahananda river embankment is stabilized under seismic loading.

Opis:
On the basis of the thermodynamic theory of transfer and transformation of all forms of energy and of the principle of mass-energy equivalence is established a more general law of gravity, according to which in the non-baryonic matter there is a gravitational force of attraction and repulsion. This theory predicts the existence of gravitational equilibrium, strong and weak gravity, as well as the presence of huge free gravitational energy reserves with the possibility of its use. This makes unnecessary the introduction of dark energy as a hypothetical medium, causing the accelerated expansion of the Universe. The theory considers the occurrence of radiation capable baryonic matter as a result of the phase transition (condensation) non-baryonic matter during its compaction forces of gravity with the rise of the new degrees of freedom. She explains the presence of libration zones, phenomenon of stellar matter overflow in binary systems, the anomalies in the behavior of space probes, structuring processes in the Universe, collapse, flash "supernova" etc. The predictions of the theory are confirmed data of astronomical observations of recent years.

Consumption of water contaminated with pathogens and heavy metals is responsible for the demise of millions of people around the globe. To find a low cost, facile and benign route for developing a biosorbent capable of handling the challenges associated with unsafe drinking water, the study report the preparation, activation, adsorption and removal of cadmium and pathogenic organisms from water samples. Modified plantain peel biochar (MPPB) was characterized using Braunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area and X-Ray diffraction (XRD). Surface area and pore size of the MPPB determined from BET surface area plot are 8.79 cc/g and 16.69 m2/g respectively with XRD crystallite size of 14.56 nm. The maximum adsorption capacity was observed to be 366.300 mmolkg-1. Equilibrium isotherm indicated the coefficient of determination to increase from Jovanovich →Elovic→Temkin→Freundlich→Langmuir model. Surface interaction and mass transfer kinetics shows a mixture of intra-particle diffusion and mass transfer process. The adsorption kinetics and surface interaction models coefficient of determination increased from Bangham pore diffusion →mass transfer model→Liquid film diffusion→pseudo first order→Dunwald-Wagner→Elovic→Pseudo-second order→Weber and Moris model. The adsorption indicated a chemisorption process with rate limitimg step likely to involve electron pair donor-acceptor interactions, hydrogen bonding and dipole dipole interactions. Antimicrobial evaluation of MPPB showed that it is a potential antimicrobial agent against common micro-organisms.

In this paper, a deterministic mathematical model for the transmission dynamics of Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) was formulated and analyzed. The basic reproductive number R0 was obtained using the next generation matrix method. The model which was parameterized using the 2011 cases of Visceral Leishmaniasis in South Sudan, was used to assess two control measures. Numerical simulation reveals that the exposed population is reduced by high detection rate, and low biting rate of sandflies. Further, our model simulation gave the values of the contact rate of susceptible human, α1 and the detection rate of new cases, σ at which the basic reproductive number is less than one, (R0 < 1), equal to one (R0 = 1) and greater than one (R0 > 1).

A field form of the Coulomb law is proposed, which describes the electric field as a function of the charge density gradient. This law is analogous in form to the modified Newton's law and similarly it reveals the possibility of attraction and repulsion of charges of the same sign as a function of the direction of the gradient of its density, and also the existence of electrostatic equilibrium. As an example of the use of this law, the erroneousness of the assertion that there are no free charges in the volume of the conductor is shown and a new treatment of the polarization processes is given as a result of the redistribution of charges of the same sign in it. A solution is proposed for the stability of atoms and their nuclei on the basis of electrostatic equilibrium and the wave concept of the structure of matter. Experimental confirmations of the proposed concept are presented.

The thermodynamic approach was applied to predict the trend selectivity of industrial grade anion exchange resin Auchlite A-378 in chloride form towards iodide and bromide ions in the solution. The study was conducted by performing the Clˉ/Iˉ and Clˉ/Brˉ uni-univalent ion exchange reactions under gradually increasing temperature conditions. The thermodynamic equilibrium constants K values were used to calculate the enthalpies of the two uni-univalent ion exchange reactions. It was observed that the K values for Clˉ/Iˉ ion exchange reaction were higher than Clˉ/Brˉ exchange reaction under identical experimental conditions. Also the enthalpy values for the two uni-univalent ion exchange reactions were calculated as -39.51 and -18.38 kJ/mol respectively. The high K and low enthalpy values obtained for Clˉ/Iˉ ion exchange reaction is responsible for higher selectivity of the resin towards iodide ions as compared to that towards bromide ions, when both the ions are present in the same solution.
