Opis:
Finger millet is a staple food crop of many communities in Africa. The crop is highly nutritious and has incredible grain storage quality. Limited research investment in finger millet in the past has resulted in poor yields and there are currently no commercial hybrids. We investigated the response of different finger millet genotypes (Okhale-1, Gulu-E, KACCIMMI-72, IE 2872, IE 4115 and U-15) to the application of a plant growth regulator hormone (Ethrel). Six elite Kenyan finger millet varieties with contrasting agronomic traits were crossed in a 6 x 6 diallel pattern. To enhance male sterility across female parents, we subjected the plants to Ethrel at concentrations of 1,500ppm, 1,750ppm and 2,000ppm against a 0ppm check. Dwarfing of sprayed plants that resulted in less lodging and ultimately higher yields were observed among plants sprayed with Ethrel at different concentrations. Ethrel application at 2,000ppm had the most dwarfing effect on plants while spraying plants with 1,500ppm of Ethrel resulted in increased grain weight. Although our results demonstrate overall positive effect of Ethrel on finger millet production, the optimum concentrations for more efficient hybridization will still need to be determined.

Opis:
For the acusto-optic interactions in liquids, an equation for the diffraction light intensity was obtained in terms of Klein Cook parameter Q. With optimized parameters for Q, incident light wave length of _=633 nm, sound wave length of _=0.1 mm, acusto-optic interaction length L=0.1 m, and refractive index of the liquid in the range of 1 to 2, the existence of ideal Raman-Nath and Bragg diffractions were investigated in terms of phase delay and incident angle. The ideal Raman-Nath diffraction slightly deviated when the Klein Cook parameter was increased from 0 to 1 for low chase delay values and for large phase delay, the characteristics of the Bessel function disappeared. Higher value of Klein Cook parameter gave Bragg diffraction and ideal Bragg diffraction was obtained for Q~100. A slight variation of the incident angle from Bragg angle had a considerable effect on Bragg diffraction pattern. Klein Cook parameter with the change of acoustic wave frequency was investigated for liquids with refractive index in the range1.3-1.7 and their diffraction patterns were compared with practically applicable acusto-optic crystals. For acusto-optic diffractions in liquids, sound velocity plays an important role in Bragg regime with Q increasing with increasing acoustic frequency. As acoustic wave frequency exceeded 10 MHz most of the liquids reached Bragg regime before these crystals.

This particular study deals with the impact of pre-sowing nanotube-based seed treatment technology on rapeseed (Brassica napus) growth and yield. During field tests we identified a significant yield increase as a result of applying the pre-sowing nanotube-based seed treatment technology. The main treatment agents were physiologically active nanochips consisting of carrier matrix nanotubes with eliciting activity ("Taunit", "Taunit-M", "Taunit-MD", and graphene). Enriching nanochips with insecticide-fungicide Kruizer-rape for guaranteed seed protection from crucifer flea allowed to raise the yield up to 8.08 t / ha - 12.28 t / ha.

Opis:
In this study we investigate the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antidiabetic activities of ethanolic leaves extracts of three selected varieties of Phoenyx dactylifera L. namely: “Ghars”, “Deglet Nour” and “Hamraya”. The assessment of the antioxidant potential of crude leaves extracts, using superoxide anions inhibition, DPPH and total antioxidant activity essays, was carried out. Furthermore, the anti-inflammatory properties of the extracts were determined by measuring the inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) production. Moreover, the antidiabetic effect was evaluated by inhibition of α-amylase enzymes. The total phenolic content measured by Folin-ciocalteu method was as well conducted. The raw leaves extracts of the selected varieties was found to contain a high content of total phenolic content (342.45 mg GAE/gDW for GE) and therefore exhibited a higher antioxidant activity and inhibitory effect of radicals scavenging activity against DPPH and superoxide anion (IC50 = 7.44 μg/mL and 39.11 μg/mL respectively). The three varieties exhibited significant inhibition nitric oxide using in-vitro assay (IC50 = 240.28 μg/mL for GE). The extracts also displayed high inhibition actions against α-amylase enzymes. The results suggest that the leaves of the three selected varieties of Phoenyx dactylifera can be considered as a good source of natural antioxidant and anti-inflammation drugs as well as potent antidiabetic medicine.

Solar irradiation is the major source of energy delivered to Earth’s atmosphere. Satellite measurements of total solar irradiation are proportional in time to sunspot numbers. Sunspot numbers have a well-organized periodic nature that is predictable in time. At the present time solar activity is in a very low phase and will be increasing over the next few decades. The atmosphere’s consumption of solar energy strongly depends upon the percentages of carbon dioxide and water vapor in it, which can cause greenhouse effects. The recent increases in the percentage of water vapor and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have caused global warming. Water levels are affected by melting glaciers. The purpose of this paper is to separate the influence of solar activity and greenhouse effects on global warming and to forecast these influences for several decades.
