Opis:
Investigated was the sorption of heavy metals (Fe(III), Pb(II), Ni(II), Co(II) Cd(II) and Zn(II)) from aqueous solutions on carbon adsorbents which varied in surface properties. To examine the efficiency of single metal concentration on the carbon adsorbent use was made of the solid phase extraction technique. The initial carbon material was purchased from GRYFSKAND (Hajnówka, Poland). The adsorbents were processed by a variety physicochemical methods in order to change the porous structure, as well as the amount and type of the polar groups on the surface. Metal concentrations were measured by atomic absorption spectroscopy. Analysis of the sorption isotherms for heavy metals on modified active carbons suggests that the sorption process was affected by the type of the metal sorbed, by the pH of the solution, by the nature of the adsorbent surface and by the presence of other ions in aqueous solution.

Opis:
Investigated was the potentiality of using sodium carbonate for the regeneration of activated carbons spent in the course of chromate onion desorption. The experiments were carried out on WD-extra carbon treated with muriatic acid for partial removal of ash particles. The regeneration procedure involved sodium carbonate and was conducted in a through-flow system. The desorption and sorption effects were related to three values of Na2CO3 concentration (2,5 and 10%) and two values of flow velocity (2 and 4 m/h). The best sorption effects were achieved on carbon regenerated with the 2% Na2CO3 solution. When use was made of increased (5% or 10%) sodium carbonate concentrations, consecutive sorptions were less effective. This finding, however, cannot be explained by the amount of the desorbed chromium. The sorption effects following the regeneration procedure were found to be adversely influenced by the local increase of pH in the micropores of the activated carbon. Of importance was also the overall number of the regeneration procedures performed. Each successive procedure reduced noticeably the adsorbing capacity of the carbon with respect to chromate onion. The contribution of flow velocity to the sorption effect was less distinct. However, the flow velocity of the Na2CO3 solution contributed markedly to the duration of the regenerating procedure and to the quantity of the reagent to be used. Thus, at the flow velocity of 2 m/h, the length of regeneration increased, whereas the quantity of the sodium carbonate used decreased.

Opis:
Five heavy metals (Pb,Ni,Zn,Cu,Cd) were investigated for efficiency of removal from model solutions, using mineral-carbon adsorbents. For the purpose of comparision, use was also made of a non-modified activated carbon,Norit, which is widely applied to watertreatment.Experiments were run with mineral-carbon adsorbents(both powdered and granural) which had been prepered by thermal carbonization of the organic substances contained in natural aluminiosilicates. The experiments also involved a granular mineral-carbon adsorbent, the composition of which had been modified so as to increase chemisorption and fixation of metal cations in the mass and on the surface of the grain. The modified adsorbent was found to be most efficient in removing the investigated heavy metals from the agueous solutions.Activated carbon (Norit)showed wery poor adsorbing capacity for hesvy metals. Thus, the efficiency of adsorption(R) for the Pb cation (which showed the highest removal in this study) was only 17.9% at a carbon dose of 30g/dm3 and a Pb concentration of 100 g/m3.
