Opis:
Occurrence of acanthocephalans in Perca fluviatilis L. from the Długa river (Mazowiecka Lowland, Poland). Material was collected from fish caught in the Długa river near Halinów (Mazowiecka Lowland). One hundred forty eight perches Perca fluviatilis L., 1875 were examined during the study period (January 2003-March 2004). Seventy one (47.97%) out of all caught fishes were infected with three species of the acanthocephalans: Acanthocephalus lucii (Müller, 1776), Acanthocephalus anguillae (Müller, 1780) and Metechinorhynchus salmonis Müller, 1780. Most fishes (40.54%) were infected by Acanthocephalus lucii, much less infection was noted with Acanthocephalus anguillae – 4.73% and with Metechinorhynchus salmonis – 3.38%. The highest prevalence and intensity of infection with the three species of acanthocephalans were recorded in spring and summer, the lowest – in autumn and winter. The collected data allowed to analyse the occurrence of acanthocephalans in particular parts of alimentary tract of fish. Two species: A. anguillae, M. salmonis were found only in the middle part of the intestine, while A. lucii were noted in each part of the alimentary tract. The highest number of individuals of A. lucii was noted in middle intestine, the lowest number was found in pyloric appendices and stomach. At the high intensity of infection the parasites were found in all parts of the alimentary tract, nevertheless with clear preference to the middle intestine.

Opis:
Background. Parasitological surveys of freshwater fishes rarely include comparisons between two ecologically different bodies of water. Such studies might help to understand processes of establishment of parasite faunas in estuary areas. The results obtained could also provide useful tools for discriminating various fish populations based on the composition of their parasite faunas. The present authors attempted to study such data from Resko Lake-a freshwater coastal lagoon (6 km? surface area), and the adjacent areas of the Baltic Sea. Resko Lake, located 12 km west of the city of Kołobrzeg, is shallow (1.5 m) and is connected to the sea through a small canal (1.3 km long, 30 m wide). Material and methods. The material was collected from April 1969 and July 1970. A total of 159 perch were collected, in this number 104 fish from the lake, 43 from the sea, and 12 from the canal. Results. A total of 32 parasite species were recovered from the fish necropsied. The parasites represented 7 higher taxa: Protozoa (3 species), Cestoda (4), Digenea (13), Nematoda (5), Acanthocephala (3), Mollusca (1), and Crustacea (3). The parasite fauna of perch from the sea was definitely more abundant (31 species) compared to that of the lake (21), and the canal (12 species). Infection parameters of 13 parasite species demonstrated significant differences between the locations studied. The infection level of 6 parasite species was significantly higher in perch from the sea: Bothriocephalus scorpii, Ligula sp., Brachyphallus crenatus, Camallanus truncatus, Hysterothylacium aduncum, and Echinorhynchus gadi. On the other hand, infection levels of 7 other species were higher at the lake: Triaenophorus nodulosus, Bucephalus polymorphus, Azygia lucii, Tylodelphys clavata, Camallanus lacustris, Acanthocephalus lucii, and Achtheres percarum. The infection parameters of the fish from canal were similar to those from the lake. Interesting observations were made on the seasonality of certain parasites of both lake- and Baltic perch. The presently observed differences between parasite faunas of the fish from ecologically different adjacent estuarine locations are certainly caused by diversified environmental conditions that affected the processes of formation of the parasite communities there. Among important factors that could affect compositions of the parasite faunas could have been: availability of the intermediate hosts, exchange of waters (Baltic water influxes to the lake), fish migrations (spawning), and finally the separate identity of the two fish stocks studied.

Opis:
Background. Heavy metals are at present classified among the most important and dangerous water pollutants. Since over 15 years parasites have been used as a bioindicators of water pollution, e.g. using their ability to accumulate heavy metals. Concentration of four elements (Zn, Cd, Ni, Cu) in selected organs of the perch (Perca fluviatilis) and in the tissues of its parasite, plerocercoid of the tapeworm Triaenophorus nodulosus, was analysed. Material and methods. The fish were subject to full helminthological section, resulting in 66 tapeworm larvae isolated from cysts, located in the liver. Plerocecroids, gills, liver and intestine with duodenum were removed and frozen. Content of heavy metals was determined with atomic absorption spectroscopy method. Results. The distribution of the content of Ni, Cd and Zn was similar. In all cases, among all the examined fish organs, the highest mean concentration of the metals was found in the liver, followed by the intestine; it was the lowest in the gills. The mean concentration of the metals in the tapeworm tissues was from 6 to 74 x higher than in the gills, 5−37 x higher than in the intestine and 2.5−28 x higher than in the liver. The concentration of Cu was also the highest in the tapeworm tissues, but its concentration in the fish intestine and liver was nearly the same; it was the lowest in the gills.

Opis:
During the years 2004–2006 the parasitological autopsies of three species of fish: roach Rutilus rutilus (L.), bream Abramis brama (L.) and perch Perca fluviatilis L. from three lakes situated in warmińsko-mazurskie voivodeship were done. The aim of this study was comparable analysis of Metazoan parasite communities which occur in roach, bream and perch in three lakes of river Łyna watershed. These lakes differ by physical (size, depth, eutrophication degree) and biological factors (composition of free-living organisms). The studies showed some relationships between size of fishes and the frequency of some parasite species as well as some relationships in seasonal dynamic of occurrence and maturation of ecto- and endoparasites, which were connected with temperature – main factor regulating processes of fish colonization by parasites and future development of parasites. In quantitative and qualitative analysis of fish parasite community structure the following indexes were used: species richness (S), species diversity of Shannon-Weaver (H’), species diversity of Brillouin (HB) and index of domination Berger-Parker (D). Studies showed that the main indexes of communities structure which indicating on occurring differences between lakes were indexes of diversity component communities and infracommunities and also index of dominance. Communities of monogeneans (roaches and breams) can be use as indicators of water environment. Apart from communities of gills parasites also alfamesotrophic lake Łańskie and eutrophic Mielno lake were differenced by eyes parasites and allogenic community of bream parasites and by intestinal parasites of roach.
