Opis:
Biodiversity of mycocoenoses of oral cavity, throat and nose of children aged 6-15 years. The purpose of this study was analysis of biodiversity of mycoflora in selected ontocenoses of healthy children. The material for the study was consisted of swabs taken from oral cavity, pharynx, and nose of healthy children: 128 girls and 142 boys. The material for the study was collected in May and November, dividing the children into two age groups: 6-9 years and 10-15 years. A total of 13 species representing 5 genera: Candida, Rhodotorula, Saccharomyces, Saccharomycopsis and Trichosporon were found in the material studied. The dominant group were yeasts-like fungi. Candida albicans, the basic etiological factor of the majority of mycotic diseases in humans, was found most frequently. Appearance of Candida glabrata and C. krusei is a reason for concern, as increasing numbers of their strains are resistant to basic antimycotic drugs, as weil as relatively frequent appearance of Trichosporon beigelii, Saccharomycopsis capsularis, and Saccharomyces sp. - the fungi showing increasing expansiveness and enzymatic activity. The fungi were most frequently isolated from oral cavity and pharynx. No phenological changes in fungal prevalence were found in the pharynx. In the other ontocenoses fungi were found much more frequently in the spring than in the autumn. Regardless of the season, the largest fluctuations in biodiversity and numbers of the studied mycocoenoses were observed in the oral cavity and nose - the organs that come into direct contact with environmental contaminants and many agents of transmission for potentially pathological fungi.

Opis:
Current data about fungi prevalence in various ontocenoses in women during procreation period. The aim of study was to analyse fungi prevalence in three ontocenoses (vagina, oral cavity and anus) in women during procreation period, which should be helpful in developing prophylactic programmes for pregnanl womem, newborns and infants infected with fungi. In 716 examined women (age 20-45 yares), 1411 samples of appropriate biological materials were taken and inoculated in the fluid Sabouraud medium and then axenic fungi strains were isolated in Sabouraud agar. High fungi prevalence in three ontocenoses of examined women was noted. Mean percentage for ontocenosis was: 39% ± 1.8% for vagina, 42.18% ± 1.8% for oral cavity and 25.03 ± 1.6% for anus. These data indicate the necessity for further examinations of multifocal fungal infection in women during procreation period.

Familial infections with Trichomonas tenax (O.F. Müller, 1773), Dobel, 1939. Aim of the study was to research familial occurrence of Trichomonas tenax and relationship between infection with the protozoan and both a state of parodontium and hygiene of oral cavity. The study involved 10 families (22 individuals). Trichomonas tenax was found in 16 patients. Simultaneously izolates of protozoans were examined with the methods of molecular biology. The study showed the dependence of infection with Trichomonas tenax on both bad hygiene of oral cavity and occurrence of pathological lesions in the paradontium.

Opis:
The role of fungi in the etiology and pathogenesis of periodontal diseases is unclear. What more, there exist only few studies concerning occurrence of fungi in the oral cavity of patients with periodontitis. The aim of the study was to assess the frequency of fungi occurrence and to search relationship between its presence and the state of paradontium, indices of oral hygiene as well as to evaluate periodontal treatment needs. The study involved a group of 189 patients of both sexes aged 20 to 87 years, never treated because of periodontitis. On the basis of clinical examination Oral Hygiene Index−Simplified and CPITN were calculated for every patient. Material from the oral cavity was taken in a form of rising for fungi cultures. Among the examined patients fungi were found in 114 cases (61,3%). The study did not find any significant dependence between age and sex of examined infected or not−infected patients but revealed dependence between the frequency of the occurrence of fungi and the type of periodontal disease and smoking.

Opis:
The occurrence of trichomonads in oral cavity of HIV patients is not well known. HIV patients often suffer from oral lesions (candidiosis, advanced caries) and it remains unclear if any oral parasites can affect that, therefore the aim of the study was verification of species that can occur in HIV patients” oral cavity. Diagnosis of oral trichomonads can be performed by conventional methods (microscopic observation of wet and stained preparations and cultivation) but these are time consuming and insufficient for proper species differentiation, therefore in order to detect and identify species of parasites precisely, molecular methods such as PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) and sequencing of its product, were applied. 54 HIV patients (18 females and 36 males at the age of 20-54) were examined. All of them were addicted to intravenous drugs for at least 6 years. Saliva, smears and spittle samples were collected and used for cultivation, preparations and molecular diagnosis. For PCR amplification a pair of primers (T1 and T2) specific for ITS 1 — 5.8 SrRNA — ITS 2 region was designed. The oral trichomonads were detected in saliva samples of 3 HIV patients; these were males at the age of 25, 27 and 44. The identification of species by PCR and sequencing of the PCR products showed the trichomonads belonging to Trichomonas tenax. Infection of HIV patients’ oral cavity caused by T. tenax is rather related with inflammatory processes than with the immunosuppression of these patients but should be considered as a potential factor in pathogenesis of oral disorders in immunosuppressed patients.

Analysis of sIgA concentrations in the contents of the cervical canal of the uterus and of the oral cavily in women with Candida or without fungi in ontocenoses of these organs. The aim of the study was to search for fungi in ontocenoses of genital organs and oral cavity (the fungal reservoir for multifocal infections) in women; evaluation of the concentration of sIgA in the contents of the cervical canal of the uterus and of the oral cavity. 102 women (age: 18- 35 years) were examined. Fungi were isolated from ontocenoses of the vagina and the oral cavity; axenic strains were differentiated with API 20 C and API 20 C AUX tests (bioMerieux). The concentrations of sIgA in the content of the cervical canal of the uterus and from the oral cavity were evaluated by LC-Partigen IgA (Behring) tests. Candida occurence in the oral cavity was significant (p<0,02) higher than in the vagina. Candida albicans (6 codes) was the predominat species; there were also C. tropicalis, C. kefyr, C. krusei, C. guilliermondii and C. glabrata. There were no significant differences between sIgA concentrations and the presence or absence of fungi in the vagina or oral cavity.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was to examine oral cavity condition, identify microorganisms and evaluate interrelation between protozoans, bacteria and fungi occurring in mouths of insuline treated diabetics. 30 men and women, 25-60 years old, were clinically assessed for their oral cavity condition including pH range. Fifteen of them were the insuline treated diabetics. Swabs taken of different sites of periodontium, dental plaques and dental pockets collected from each patients were used for detection and identification of protozoans, bacteria and fungi. Mucosal inflammation, dental caries, loose teeth, periodontitis were observed in the diabetic patients, whereas the oral cavities were generally in better condition in the control patients. Prevalence of the protozoan parasites Entamoeba gingivalis and Trichomonas tenax was higher in the control patients than in the diabetics (26.6% and 13.3%, respectively). Fecal bacteria Enterococcus fecalis, E. faecium, Klebsiella pneumoniae occurred with significantly higher frequency in the insuline treated patients (60%) than in the control (6.6%). Various Candida albicans strains were more often found in the diabetic (53.2%) than in the control patients (13.3%). The results of our studies show a clear interrelation between alteration of oral health and the occurrence of microorganisms in the insuline treated diabetics. Metabolic disease that causes serious multi-organ disturbances as well as insulinotherapy are the very important factors changing oral cavity ecology of the persons with diabetes mellitus; decresed pH (the average 5.5) may inhibit development of infection with protozoans in the oral cavity of these patients and favour subclinical infections with other microorganisms. Thus, in the insuline treated diabetics, examination of mouths with regard to the occurrence of opportunistic fecal bacteria and fungi, particularly before a therapy with antibiotics is strongly recommended.
