Ixodes ricinus
Opis:
The occurrence of Ixodes ricinus in the selected recreative areas in the province of Szczecin. Part III. Within the last years, the incidences of diseascs transmitted by Ixodes ricinus tick have rapidly increased. We estimated the occurrence of Ixodes ricinus in the popuJlr recreation urban areas in Szczecin and in the Province of Szczecin. The study was carried out in 1999, with two samples at each site, and were compared with data of 1998. The temperature and humidity of air were measured. The most ticks were found in the range of 70-80% relative humidity of air. Among 3.198 specimens collected 59.5% were nymphs, 19.0% larvae, 11.1 % females and 10.4% males. The nymphs were the most frequent in spring and in autumn, while the larvae were most frequent in autumn (26.2%) then in spring (11.9%).

Opis:
To explore the seasonal prevalence of tick infections in mithun (Bos frontalis) and yak (B. grunniens) a study was conducted in Papum Pare district, Kurung-Kumey district and West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, India from December 2012 to November 2014. Adult ticks were collected from both the animals during the month of December 2012 to November 2014. Ectoparasites were identified on the basis of their morpho-anatomical features observed through light microscope. A total of nine different species of ectoparasites recovered belong to the family Ixodidae are Rhipicephalus (B.) microplus, R. (B.) geigy, Haemaphysalis davisi, H. darjeeling, H. longicornis, H. bispinosa, Ixodes acutitarsus, I. ricinus and Rhipicephalus sanguineus. Out of 129 mithun examined during the survey R. (B.) microplus and H. davisi showed 100% prevalence of infections throughout the year followed by H. longicornis (35.65%), H. bispinosa (30.23%), R. (B.) geigy (25.58%), I. acutitarsus (20.93%), H. darjeeling (7.75%), I. ricinus (1.55%) and Rhipicephalus sanguineus (0.77%). Similarly, all 21 yak examined revealed to be infected with R. (B.) microplus (100%) followed by I. acutitarsus (51.14%) and H. davisi (33.33%). In mithun the rate of infection due to all the nine ectoparasites rose to a peak during June to August. Except for the winter season, R. (B.) geigy occurred throughout the year. I. acutitarsus and H. darjeeling showed their occurrence throughout the year except during spring, however, I. ricinus and R. sanguineus occurs only during rainy season.

Opis:
Cryptosporidium is an opportunistic protozoan parasite that can cause severe diarrhoea in immunocompromised patients. The transmission of this pathogen in humans and animals is not fully understood. C. meleagridis, originally described in birds, is the only Cryptosporidium species known to naturally infect mammalian and avian species. This study documents the first detection of C. meleagridis in an HIV-infected woman in Poland.

Ixodes ricinus
Opis:
The aim of the study was to estimate the occurrence (the quantative and rate percent) of Ixodes ricinus in the popular recreation areas in Szczecin (Arkonka, Osów, Głębokie, Landscape Park of Szczecin, Dąbie Forest Park, Zdroje Forest Park) and in province of Szczecin (Forest of Goleniów, Ińsko, Pobierowo, Chojna). Investigations were performed in 1998 year, twice on each places; in May/June and repeted in September/October. The temperature and humidity of air were measured. Obtained specimens were regard of sex and growing stage during each collection. A total of 2.055 specimens collected 49% were nymphs, 13.9% female, 11.3% male and 25.8% larvaes. The nymphs the most frequently were in spring when humidity of air was 55% and temperature 24°C. The larvaes, in autumn were most frequently (31.4%) then in spring (20.5%) when the temperature of the air was 18-22°C, and the humidity from 60 to 85% during the collections.

Opis:
The guinea pigs were administrated vit. A (400 i.u.), vit. B₂ (1 mg) or vit. B₁₅ (5 mg). On the 9-th day of the experiment part of them was infectpd with 5000 invasive eggs of Ascaris suum. The invasion lasted 6 days and was controlled by lungs and kidney weight, and number of larvae in the lungs. The activity of amylase was determined by saccharogenic method in both organs. In the lungs of infected animals the activity of alpha-amylase was abouth 3 times lower than in the control. The infection of guinea pigs which were given vitamins did not cause change of enzyme's activity. In the kidney directive tendency was the same, but the differences were smaller. The infection resulted in an increase of relative mass of lungs. This index and number of larvae was considerable smaller in guinea pigs with vitamins A and B₁₅ administration. Any testing agent did not cause change of relative weight of kidney.

Opis:
Studies of fungi and fungus- like organisms in the northeastern Poland have mainly concentrated on running waters in the vicinity of Białystok, including the Horodnianka River. The main objective was to investigate biodiversity of fungi and fungus-like organisms which take part in decomposition of organic matter commonly found in inland waters. To obtain a complete picture of species composition of fungi and fungus-like organisms in running waters we decided to explore representative sites of the Horodnianka River such as Olmonty, Hryniewicze and Horodniany with close localization of landfill. Fungal species were isolated using baiting technique. Baits of onion skin (Alium cepa), hemp-seeds (Cannabis sativa), impregnated cellophane and snake skin (Natrix natrix) were applied to isolate fungi from water of the Horodnianka River. The fungal community consists of 26 species, 10 species of fungi belonging to class Chytridiomycetes (3), anamorphic fungi (6), and Zygomycetes (1). 16 species belong to fungus-like organisms from class Oomycetes. Most of the recognized species have already been found in other running waters. From all the examined habitats the fungi belonging to 26 species of 18 genera Achlya, Alternaria, Aphanomyces, Aspergillus, Catenophlyctis, Dictyuchus, Fusarium, Karlingia, Lagenidium, Leptomitus, Olpidiopsis, Penicillium, Phlyctochytrium, Pythium, Saprolegnia, Scoliognia, Thraustotheca and Zoophagus were obtained. Certain fungal species like Aphanomyces laevis, Fusarium aqueductum, F. moniliforme, F. oxysporum, Leptomitus lacteus, Saprolegnia feax and S. parasitica were found at all the study sites. Among fungi potentially pathogenic and allergogenic for humans the genera Alternaria, Aspergillus, Fusarium, Lagenidium and Penicillium have already been described. However, the species Lagenidium giganteum and Achlya androgyna are new in the fungal biota of Poland. The greatest number of fungal species occurred in Olmonty (24), the smallest in Horodniany (13). Presence of fungi such as Leptomitus lacteus, Fusarium aqueductum in the water of the Horodnianka River offers the possibility of using them as indicators of water quality.
