Opis:
This article explores the phenomenon of the Iranian ‘Constitutional Revolu-tion’ of 1906, focusing on its historical context and, more specifically, on the changes in Iranian social consciousness that it triggered. Some important issues regarding the constitutional debate, concerning human and civil rights, are presented. In this author’s opinion, the second Iranian constitution, that of the Islamic Republic of Iran (1979), is an Islamized continuation of the previous one.

The paper reflects analysis of disastrous consequences regarding the coronavirus epidemy, which may affect geopolitical situation in the world and worldwide status-quo of the main superpowers such as the US, Europe or Russia. While Western countries are still facing the disease, the number of causalities in China decreases and the country tries to recover its main institutions, companies and social activities. In fact, Beijing may reinforce its political, military and economic presence in the world, including Middle East and Gulf countries. Besides, Western countries will be focused on domestic problems such as health and social care, reestablishment of the business as well as improvement of potential unemployment and growing poverty or discouragement of consumerism and mass protests. Moreover, the research focuses on two approaches of Sino-Arab relations: trade and economic presence as well as political and military activities.

Opis:
The article is based on the assumption that the historical meaning of the Constitutional Revolution of Iran should be investigated not only considering the con-stitution itself, but also the process of socio-political and cultural changes preceding it, as well as the debate over the constitution. Filling the gaps in the research on the minorities of that period, the article discusses the Zoroastrian and Assyrian commu-nities from a comparative perspective. It covers the different situations of the mino-rities at the threshold of the Revolution, as well as the ways they participated in the Constitutional Movement. Comparing two different minority communities contributes to a deep understanding of the social changes taking place in Iran along with the accompanying tensions.

Opis:
During the second half of the 19th and early 20th century diplomatic relations on the borders of Central Asia, South Asia and the Middle East were still shaped by the Great Game – a geopolitical rivalry between the Russian and the British Empires. Iran and Afghanistan did not formally become colonial states at this period, but played an extremely important role in the politics of both Moscow and London. While discus-sing Iran’s Constitutional Movement it is worth mentioning the events leading up to the establishment of the constitution in Afghanistan. Numerous Iranian influences and inspirations can be found in this process. A common figure in the discussion on the relations of these countries is Seyyed Jamalouddin al-Afghani, whose Iranian origin is widely contested by Afghans. Adopting the constitution was one of the ways that governments of Muslim states moved towards a modernization of the Muslim world in which al-Afghani saw a way out of dependency on the West.

Opis:
This paper aims to juxtapose two crucial texts for the early history of feminism in Iran: a satirical treatise entitled Maʼayeb al-rejal (The vices of men) from 1894 written by Bibi Khanom Astarabadi (1858/59–1921) and the memoirs of Taj al-Saltana (1884–1936), a daughter of Naser al-Din Shah (r. 1848–1896), penned in 1914. In spite of the authors’ different backgrounds and the diversity of issues raised, both devoted plenty of attention to the desirable qualities of a ‘modern Iranian woman’—a new ideal championed by the Iranian reformist movement of the late 1800s and early 1900s. This progressive ideal of woman, however, remained rooted in a traditional paradigm equating womanhood with wifehood and motherhood. Through a literary analysis of the works of Bibi Khanom and Taj al-Saltana, the author argues that the early Iranian feminists integrated their advocacy for dignity and ‘modernity’ of woman into the patriarchal outlook by reserving for their ‘sisters’ the functions of educators and carers.

The main purpose of the paper is to present the most important conditions and dependencies that characterize current relations between North Korea and Iran. These entities are today one of the most significant threats for international security. The first part of the paper presents the history Iran-North Korean relations, focusing on the Cold War period and North Korea’s support for Iran during the Iraqi-Iranian war. The second part of the paper focuses on tracing the development of the communist regime’s political contacts with Iran from the 1990s to the Arab Spring in 2011, based mainly on mutual support for its nuclear programs. Lastly, the paper follows the cooperation of North Korea and Iran in recent years, primarily regarding issues related to the growing pressure of the United States to stop the development of nuclear weapons in the DPRK and Iran. The conclusion serves as an attempt to answer the question whether future ties between North Korea and Iran should be expected. Another question would be whether the contacts of both countries can be assessed as a real alliance, however, they are more limited in nature. In addition, it is important to address issues such as whether and how the cooperation of both sides will significantly affect the architecture of modern international security.

Polish–Iranian Relations
Opis:
Iran in 1979 was one of Poland’s most important business partners in the Middle East. After the Iranian Revolution the situation changed dramatically. The available documents allow previously unaudited Polish–Iranian relations to be researched and reveal attempts at the closing of both countries in the 1980s. The climax of these attempts was a visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Marian Orzechowski to Tehran in 1987. Showing a complete picture of these contacts required research of documents from the Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Newsreel, and the Institute of National Remembrance in Warsaw. Results of the research were compared with information in the Polish press and the interview with Professor Orzechowski as well as with his written memoires. Orzechowski’s visit to Iran was an actual resumption of Polish–Iranian relations, which had ceased as a result of the Iranian Revolution in 1979.

Mirzade-ye Eshqi (1893–1924) was one of the most curious characters of Iranian intellectual life in the period between the First and the Second World War. Most famous as a poet, he was also a journalist; moreover, in his poetry he often pursued social and political goals with a much greater zeal than his literary ambitions. A fervent radical, he never subscribed to any particular ideology, instead creating his own ideas of a cyclical revolution and the Festival of Blood. This paper aims to explore these ideas through an analysis of Eshqi’s poetry and essays, as well as answer to what degree he truly supported annual mass murder, i.e. the Festival of Blood.

Opis:
The article is an attempt to present and analyze main dimensions of contemporary Iranian dispute concerning the so called ezdevaj-e sefid (“white marriage”) that is a relation of two unmarried people living under one roof. A study of the public domain that involves discussions of academics, journalists, state institutions and religious circles, as well as ordinary Iranians, allows its two main dimensions to be distinguished. The first is focused on describing this phenomenon and assessing its social, demographical, moral and psychological consequences and the second one concerns the legal status of “white marriages” in the Iranian legal system and discusses its possible analogies in Shi’a legal doctrine.
