Opis:
An innovative method for investigation of deformation-induced damage of elastic-plastic materials is proposed. A static tension test, performed on a specimen with a variable cross- -section gage part enabled analysis of degradation of the material structure for all stages of permanent deformation. Modified Johnson model has been used to quantify damage. Analysis of the damage of the specimen surface as well as observations of the damage induced inside the gage part of the specimen has been performed using SEM observations. Debonding at the interface between a hard inclusion and a ductile matrix has been found to be responsible for initiation of cracks on the specimen surface as well as inside the gage part of the specimen. Analysis of the subsequent void growth has been performed. Surface cracks are associated with plastic deformation resulting in an increase of the surface roughness. Variations of the specimen surface roughness have been found to be in good correlation with the damage parameter. This correlation enables the use of surface roughness as the relative damage indicator for the investigated material and deformation mode.

Opis:
Void initiation and growth serve as an important mechanism in ductile failures in metals. Particularly, on the micron-level, the extra hardening effect associated with strain gradient is accounted for by adopting strain gradient elasto-plasticity instead of the conventional plasticity. Effects of inertial, strain gradient hardening and thermal softening are formulated analytically for the case where a spherical void expands under external hydrostatic stress. As demonstrated by our results, the inertia effect firstly tends to hinder but then promotes the void growth. The threshold stress required for rapid void growth is lifted due to extra hardening of strain gradient so that the growth of a smaller void is delayed more remarkably. A considerable thermal softening phenomenon is observed here, which is caused by plastic work during the deformation process. The final void growth rate is mainly related to the maximum loading, which is consistent with the prediction based on the classical plastic theory.

Opis:
To study evolution of the void in the material of a motor rotor under different working conditions from a mesoscopic perspective, damage analysis of the rotor has been carried out based on thermal-mechanical coupling theory. According to the test methods of GB/T 228.1-2010 Part 1 and GB/T 228.2-2015 Part 2, tensile tests were conducted on rotor ma- terials at different temperatures to obtain basic mechanical property parameters, and pa- rameters of the fine-scale damage model at different temperatures were fitted by combining orthogonal tests and a finite element inverse calibration method. Then, the accurate tem- perature distribution law of the motor rotor was obtained through CFD calculation. Based on the material parameters and temperature data, the void evolution of the rotor material under thermal-mechanical load was studied by using the finite element method. The results show that: under the rated conditions, the stress concentration of the rotor is mainly ap- peared in the joint with the shaft, the maximum stress was 304.1MPa, which did not reach the yield limit of the material. No plastic deformation occurred, so the volume fraction of voids inside the rotor material did not change still for the initial pore volume fraction of 2.5 · 10−3. In the peak condition, the stress concentration appeared in the rotor plate across the joint of the magnetic bridge and pole shoe with a maximum stress of 354.4MPa and a small plastic strain of 1.133 ·10−3. The pore volume fraction increased to 2.503 ·10−3, where the initial pore growth of 2.150 · 10−6 and the secondary pore nucleation of 2.079 · 10−12.
