Opis:
High pressure apparatus is widely used in industries, the design of them depends on stress distributions in their walls. Most of high pressure apparatuses are made in form of cylinders. To raise load-bearing capacity and extend operation life for high pressure apparatus, the autofrettage technology is often used. To design autofrettaged high pressure apparatus, it is necessary to study characteristics of stresses in the wall of thick-wall cylinders, including residual stresses and total stresses, etc. In this study, through investigating the characteristics of stresses of cylinders subjected to internal pressure according to the maximum distortion strain energy theory, a set of simplified equations for residual stresses and total stresses are obtained, the safe and optimum load-bearing conditions for autofrettaged cylinders are found out, which are the basis for design of autofrettaged high pressure apparatus.

Opis:
Establishing a fatigue life prediction model considering the machined surface state is of great significance to improve fatigue life prediction accuracy. Fatigue tests with different machined surface states of GH4169 alloy were conducted firstly. The influence of surface state parameters on the fatigue life was analyzed. Then, the machined surface stress concentration factor and residual stress were introduced into the fatigue crack initiation and propagation models. Finally, the fatigue life prediction model of GH4169 material considering the surface states was established. The prediction results based on the proposed model are almost within a factor of two scatter band of the test results.

With the help of the equation of optimum overstrain or depth of the plastic zone, a set of concise and accurate equations for residual stresses and their equivalent stress as well as the total stress and their equivalent stresses are obtained, and features of these stresses are discussed, thereupon the law of distribution and the varying tendency of these stresses become clearer. Safe and optimum load-bearing conditions for a cylinder are presented.

Opis:
Structural components are often operated under combined stress conditions (primary and secondary stresses), but the stress levels generated by residual stress (or secondary stress) is hardly ever evaluated. Hence, stress intensity factors at the crack tips of a compact tension (CT) specimen under a pre-compressed load condition are analyzed using the finite element method. Then, the average residual stress intensity factor is calculated and analyzed. As the crack length α0/W increases, the average residual stresses σave/σ0 grows under the same pre-compression load. σave/σ0 increases rapidly at a low range of the pre-compression load but tends to a constant in a high range of the load. The distribution of the average residual stress intensity factors Kave and Κave/σ0 of the CT specimen with same crack length under different pre-compression loads have the same tendency. Additionally, the distribution of Κave and KFEM under different pre-compression loads are also similar. Nevertheless, Kave estimated by the average residual stress is too conservative and not accurate, and the method is complex, which depends on the analysis of simulation. Therefore, a simple method for calculating Mode I stress intensity factor K for this model is presented. A group of examples is presented to verify the accuracy of the method.

Opis:
The study is concerned with the modeling of residual stresses in thin coatings thermally deposited with a high speed on a substrate. The modeling includes two stages: solution of the particle-target impact problem using FEM and simulation of the spraying process with the use of a thermo-mechanical model in which the coating has been built layer-by-layer. The samples used in the calculations are comprised of Ti, Cu, and Ni coatings deposited on Al2O3 substrate by the HVOF method. The numerical model is verified experimentally by measuring the deflections of the samples after spraying, and measuring the stresses using the XRD method.

Opis:
The finite element method (FEM) is developed to simulate a discontinuous cutting in the whirlwind milling. Firstly, a simplified arc-cutting model for simulating the actual circular cutting, and a plane-cutting model for simplification were both developed and verified by experiments. Then, the effects of cutting parameters on the cutting force and residual stress were effectively investigated based on the plane-cutting model. Moreover, a plane-second- -cutting model was further developed. It showed that a minor decrease of cutting force and a higher maximum compressive stress were generated in the second cutting. Those results were conducive to predict and improve the whirlwind milling.

Opis:
Regardless of the welding method, a new joint and the surrounding area are inevitably subjected to thermo-physical perturbation. The paper presents analyses of many different issues involved in welding and potential solutions including adoption of simplifying assumptions, application of numerical algorithms and development of reliable representative models. The Finite Element Method is used to determine residual stress distribution, using results from thermo-physical tests and widely known mechanical properties of metals subjected to welding processes. Experimental and numerical methods for determining residual stress are compared for welds generated using both TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) and a laser beam. This data reveals that it is necessary to precisely define location of the analyzed welded fragment to correctly determine thermal boundary conditions.

The dynamical linear theory of a material surface placed in vacuum and subjected to an external strong magnetostatic field is considered. Motion of the surface is described by a position function The material of the surface is assumed to be an isotropic elastic non-magnetizable electric conductor. The residual stress is taken into account. Displacement-based field equations are obtained in coordinate-free notation.
