Opis:
The paper presents comparative characteristics of the length as well as start and end dates of the forest vegetation period (FVP) in the years 1981−2010 determined on the basis of the average daily air temperature and data generated for the conditions of two−fold higher CO2 concentration. To simulate meteorological data for that conditions, we applied the WGENK data generator, considering assumptions of GISS Model E scenario of climate change. The results showed that the average start date of FVP in Poland in the period of 1981−2010 was April 25th, while the average end date of FVP was October 10th. The average length of FVP for Poland equalled 165 days. It was discovered that, on average, the FVP start accelerated by 8 days per 30 years and the FVP end was slightly delayed by 3 days per 30 years. During the analyzed period, the FVP in Poland extended by 10 days on average. According to the applied scenario of the climate change, the trend indicates a possible increase in the FVP by 30 days when compared to the present state. The FVP may start 2−3 weeks earlier and finish 1−2 weeks later than presently. The generated data pointed at April 9th as the average date of the FVP start and October 24th as the date of its end.

Opis:
In the context of climate change and global warming, a growing number of studies reported lengthening of the growing season for most of the Northern Hemisphere, which is associated with increase of air temperature. Evidences of the increase of the growing season length were noted through satellite data and phonological and meteorological observations. This article presents the studies on the temporal and spatial tendencies in the thermal growing season (TGS) length in north−eastern Poland in 1951−2015. The analyses were conducted using long−term and homogeneity daily data sets from 13 meteorological stations (fig. 1). The dates of beginning and end of the TGS were determined by Huculak−Makowiec method. Trends in the TGS length as well as start and end dates were analysed for the whole study period as well as for successive 30−years periods: 1951−1980, 1961−1990, 1971−2000 and 1981−2010. The results show a general increase of the length of the TGS in the north−eastern Poland in 1951−2015 period, however, there are spatial and temporal differences in TGS evolution. In the western and central part of the region, the growing season in the past 65 years became ca. 20 days longer, while in the eastern part the lengthening of TGS was weaker and amounted to 7−10 days. Most of this change is due to earlier onset of the TGS in spring (average for the western part =2.1 days/10 years, while for the eastern one – 1.2 days/10 years). The observed trends and tendencies show spatial and temporal variability in TGS evolution. Trends in parameters of TGS, calculated for 30−years period, varied directionally and spatially with no significant trends before 1980. In the period 1981−2010 the growing season was longer than in the previous years, the largest increases were found in the central part of the region (1.2 days/year), while the smallest in the south−eastern part (0.5 day/year). Since the 1980s the frequency of long growing seasons increased. A particularly large and steady increase of TGS occurred over the first 15 years of the 21st century. Length as well as start and end dates of the TGS displayed large inter−annual and decadal variability with tendencies for increased range of variability.

Opis:
This paper presents research results on analysis of climatic water balance in forest in Wyrchczadeczka forest nursery. The data comes from measurements from 1995−2004, which were collected at the meteorological station of the Department of Forest Climatology in Istebna. Detailed analysis concerned vegetation seasons. The lowest value of climatic water balance was August on average –27,1 mm·m–2. The highest value was July, 93,5 mm·m–2. Average value of index in whole vegetation period has totalled 275 mm·m–2. Despite big disparity of sum of precipitation and evaporation, climatic conditions promote of forest species vegetation in this terrain. In researched period, months presented with negative values of climatic water balances near 30% on average, it 70% cases of positive values remaining.

Opis:
The paper aims at assessing the impact of meteorological conditions on the start of the growing season (SOS) over forests in north−eastern Poland. The main objective was to study which, and if so to what extent, the meteorological parameters can describe the changes of the onset of vegetation in broadleaved forests. Study area encompasses forest complexes located in north−eastern Poland, which are under the influence of maritime and continental climate characterized by a shorter vegetation period and large temperature fluctuations. In this study forest mask containing only pixels with 50% cover of broadleaved forests defined by CLC2012 was applied. The time−series of satellite images derived from VEGETATION mission were applied for determining the start of the growing season. 10−day composites of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) from 1999 to 2016, derived at 1 km pixel resolution were filtered with double logistic function in order to determine the SOS. The meteorological parameters such as maximum air temperature, total precipitation and surface solar radiation derived from field measurements one month before the start of the growing season were taken into account. The Pearson correlation results proved that only maximum air temperature was related to the onset of the growing season. The strength of the relations depended on the dominant trees recognized within the forest area. There were no statistically significant relations with the precipitation and solar surface radiation which could be explained by frequent clouds during the month before the SOS and not observed unfavorable conditions that could have impacted on the changes of the growing season in forests.
