Opis:
This work is devoted to the study of the content of mineral forms of nitrogen in the water of small rivers in Khabarovsk and its surroundings, represented by the Bolshekhekhtsirsky Nature Reserve, during the winter low water of 2017-2021, which lasts from December to February. The dynamics of quantitative distribution of ammonium, nitrite, and nitrate nitrogen in relation to different groups of watercourses were considered. The correlation analysis enabled to reveal the probable reasons for such correlations of their content.

Opis:
The paper deals with the problem of wastewater treatment with specific physicochemical composition (increased ammonium nitrogen concentration) which were generated in Motor Rest Areas (MRA). Conventional biological wastewater treatment systems with activated sludge were used to purify the wastewater from sanitary equipment used in MRA. On the basis of the research conducted on four MRA, an attempt was made to determine the impact of the wastewater quality on biological wastewater treatment processes. The wastewater supplied to the treatment system was characterized by predominance of biologically non-degradable organic matter (average BOD/ COD ratio 4.39 – 10.42) as well as high concentration of ammonium nitrogen 273.9 – 334.55 mgN-NH4/dm3. The wastewater alkalinity determined by high content of ammonium nitrogen had a negative impact on the biological treatment processes. Unequal pollution load and temporary, high hydraulic load caused leaching of solid suspension from settling tank as well as leaching of particles of activated sludge from the reactor’s chamber. The lack of organic matter susceptible to biological decomposition makes it difficult to develop the biocenosis of activated sludge, and the limits of ammonium nitrogen concentration inhibit the nitrification processes.

Opis:
The aim of the research was to initially assess the changes in the physicochemical composition of water in the reservoirs of the city moat (Wrocław) in the context of the analysis of the type of pollutants flowing into the inner-city water reservoirs and in relation to the impact of air quality directly in the vicinity of the reservoirs. As an element of the urban landscape, the inner-city water reservoirs play an important role in improving the local climatic conditions, increasing the biodiversity of the landscape, and eliminating the negative impact of urban heat islands. The measurement campaign was conducted for 11 months. The following parameters were determined in the analyzed water samples: turbidity, pH, electrolytic conductivity, as well as concentrations of nitrogen forms (ammonium nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen, and nitrate nitrogen), total phosphorus and sulfates. Additionally, the air quality parameters in the direct location of the reservoirs were analyzed, including: concentrations of nitrogen oxides, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, humidity level and selected meteorological data, i.e. daily precipitation and average daily air temperature. The average concentrations of nitrogenous forms in the waters of the downtown water reservoir were as follows: ammonium nitrogen 0.155 mg•dm-3, nitrite nitrogen 0.084 mg•dm-3, and nitrate nitrogen 1.15 mg•dm-3. The sulfate concentrations showed greater variability 67.805–180.973 mg•dm-3. On the basis of the conducted observations and analyses, a statistically significant relationship was found between the quality parameters of water in municipal water reservoirs and external factors such as air quality, and in particular the correlation of air humidity with the concentration of nitrite and nitrate ions in the water. The conducted research confirms the influence of air quality on the levels of pollutants in the waters collected in the urban water reservoir.

Opis:
The possibilities of using a natural sorbent – peat for the wastewater treatment of ammonium ions and phosphates discharged from runoff into natural reservoirs at high concentrations were investigated. The peat of from the Vereshchytsya-Yanovske deposit of Ukraine of two depths: lowland and upland, was studied. It was established that the lowland samples of peat have higher sorption properties to the investigated pollutants from the aquatic environment than the upland ones. A greater moisture loss in the lowland peat species was observed, as well as the major part of the plant fibers in its structure, which explains its sorption properties. Due to the high content of humic substances, the extraction of cations from the water by peat can occur due to the ion exchange. The adsorption isotherms of both ammonium and phosphate ions on the top and lowland peat species of the Vereshchytsya-Yanovske deposit were constructed and presented. The adsorption isotherm obtained in the experimental studies was used to mathematically establish the isotherm equation, using the Langmuir and Freundlich models to describe the equilibrium of the sorption processes under study. The degree of appropriation of linear equations to the experimental data was evaluated on the basis of the deterministic coefficient, which enabled to determine that in each case the Langmuir equations describe the adsorption isotherms more adequately.

Opis:
Pollution migration is the main problem of the landfills that have been located, installed and operated without meeting basic environmental protection requirements. Undertaking effective reclamation treatments is conditioned by a good recognition of the object and its close and distant surroundings. The purpose of the work was to determine the potential hazard to the soil and water environment, based on selected factors, in the vicinity of a closed waste landfill at Głębocka Street in Warsaw. In the soil samples taken at the site from various depths, high concentrations of chlorides, EC, ammonium nitrogen and phosphates were found. Furthermore, the high ammonium nitrogen content correlated with the scent of ammonia, and the content of phosphates with the scent of organic compounds. These pollutants testify to the progressive decomposition of substances occurring in the mass of littering waste, which may pose a serious threat to groundwater. The landfill is also a potential geotechnical hazard because it is a dynamically changing object that can change stability, create caverns and landslides.

Opis:
Jednym z problemów w technologii oczyszczania ścieków jest powstawanie piany/kożucha na powierzchni bioreaktorów osadu czynnego. Niszczenie piany przeprowadza się różnymi sposobami, do których należą także metody dezintegracji. Hybrydowa dezintegracja (rozkład/liza chemiczny i kawitacja hydrodynamiczna) mikroorganizmów piany powoduje uwolnienie fosforu, azotu amonowego, magnezu i potasu z fazy stałej piany do fazy ciekłej. Zastosowanie hybrydowego procesu obróbki wstępnej, spowodowało zwiększenie stężeń fosforanów o ok. 677 mg PO43- L-1 oraz azotu amonowego o ok. 41 mg N-NH4+ L-1. Stężenie jonów Mg2+ w roztworze wzrosło z 6,2 do 31,1 mg Mg2+ L-1, potasu z 22,4 do 102,0 mg K+ L-1.
One of the problems in wastewater treatment technologies is the formation of foam/scum on the surface of bioreactors. The foam elimination/destruction can be carried out by various methods among which disintegration is included. Hybrid disintegration (chemical decomposition and hydrodynamic cavitation) of the foam microorganisms results in phosphates, ammonium nitrogen, magnesium and potassium transferred from the foam solids into the liquid phase. Application of both methods as a hybrid pre-treatment process caused in an increased concentration of phosphates of about 677 mg PO43- L-1, ammonium nitrogen about 41 mg N- NH4+ L-1. The concentration of Mg2+ and K+ in the solution increased from 6.2 to 31.1 mg Mg2+ L-1and from 22.4 to 102.0 mg K+ L-1, respectively. The confirmation of physicochemical changes and release of cellular matter as a result of cellular lysis (hybrid disintegration) was IR analysis. It was demonstrated that the disintegration of foam permits removal of a part of nutrients in the form of struvite.
