Opis:
The study shows the content of macro- and microelements in the leaves and rhizomes of Glyceria maxima of the Słupia River in Słupsk. The content of macro and micro-elements in G. maxima was analyzed for each component separately and in an integrated way, and comparing the demand for nutritions. The largest quantity of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and calcium were found in the leaves, meanwhile zinc, iron, manganese, nickel and copper in the G. maxima rhizomes. The amount of Zn and Cu, in all of the tested positions, within the range of the limit for the plants, and the concentrations of Ni and Mn exceed physiological needs. The U Mann Whitney test showed a number of statistically significant differences in the concentration of the analyzed elements in leaves – rhizomes, leaves – bottom sediment and rhizome bottom sediment relation. The relations between designated heavy metals formed a following series: Mn>Fe>Zn>Ni>Cu in leaves and Fe>Mn>Zn>Ni>Cu in rhizomes. The G. maxima shoots accumulated 985.8 do 1441.4 mmolc∙kg-1 in all the analyzed components, and the lower value of the sum of the accumulated macro and microelements were found in rhizomes. The sum of ion comospition of the macronutrients in the leaves and rhizomes was similar. The content of nitrogen was 51.7–53.7% of this amount, 5.8–8.6% phosphorus, potassium 22.8 – 26.6%, 4.9-5.8% of magnesium, calcium, 8.2–11.9%, and trace elements were 0.58% in total, in the case of leaves and 8.70% in the rhizomes.

Opis:
The study utilized data from a field experiment carried out at the Experimental Station in Zawady owned by the University of Natural Sciences and Humanities in Siedlce in the years 2005–2007. The experimental factors included two soil tillage systems and seven weed control methods in potato. Iron, copper and zinc in weeds were deter- mined with the AAS method. The trace element content in weed dry matter before row closure of potato depended significantly on soil tillage methods (excluding Cu), weed control methods and weather conditions, and, prior to tuber harvest, on soil tillage and weather conditions during the growing season. The uptake of Fe, Cu, and Zn by weeds from the area of 1 hectare depended on the experimental factors, weed biomass and weed chemical composition.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to assess the spatial distributions of total trace elements content in the bottom sediments of Dzierżno Duże water reservoir, along with the comparison of the accuracy and characteristics of Kriging and IDW interpolations. On the basis of regular measurement grid consisting of 53 points, bottom sediments samples were collected. Mean values of total trace elements content in bottom sediments of Dzierżno Duże were as follows: Zn – 410 mg/kg, Pb – 57 mg/kg, Cr – 36 mg/kg, Cu – 40 mg/kg, Cd – 5 mg/kg, Ni – 16 mg/kg and Ba – 267 mg/kg. According to the geochemical quality classification, the concentrations of Cd in 32% of samples were assigned to class IV (heavily contaminated), 45% to class III (contaminated), Zn in 42% samples to class III with 1 sample in class IV and 26% to class II (slightly contaminated), Pb in 9% to class III and 58% to class II, Cu in 4% to class III and 68% to class II, Cr in 17% to class II, Ni in 55% to class II, Ba in 8% to class III and 61% in class II. Coefficient of determination was determined between each case of trace elements content. The highest correlation (R2 in range from 0.81 to 0.96) was observed between Zn and Pb, Zn and Cu, Zn and Cr, Zn and Ni, Pb and Cu, Pb and Cr, Cu and Cr, Cr and Ni. Significant correlation (R2 in range from 0.70 to 0.80) occurred between: Zn and Cd, Pb and Ni, Cu and Ni, Cd and Ni. The lowest correlations (R2 in range from 0.25 to 0.70) were observed between concentration of Ba and the rest of trace elements. Two different interpolation methods were chosen for the purpose of generating spatial distributions – Inverse Distance Weighted and Ordinary Kriging. These methods were chosen for purpose of obtaining optimal accuracy result of spatial distributions. The distributions of trace elements content were classified by means of geochemical criteria. In the case of accuracy comparison between IDW and Ordinary Kriging, the former had slightly better results in terms of mean value and root mean square. The generated spatial distributions allowed to determine the most contaminated areas, which were mainly northern-central and southern-central parts of water Dzierżno Duże reservoir.

The current study considered the distribution of trace elements in snow cover taking into account the functional zoning of the territory of Berezniki-Solikamsk industrial hub, Perm Region, Russia. The concentrations of 22 trace elements were determined in the dissolved phase of snowmelt using ICP-MS method. On the basis of on the background approach, it was found that Ni, Se, Cu, and Sn are actively accumulated in the snow cover. Snowmelt surface runoff during snow melting period significantly contributes to the total watershed discharge of rivers; therefore, the compliance with the Russian fishery quality standards was assessed. It was found that meltwater is the source of Cu, Mn, Se, Zn, V in surface waters. Significant concentrations of Pb, Cd, W, As, Se in snow are characteristic of conditionally background sites in comparison with average values of global concentrations of dissolved trace elements in river waters, and Se, W, Pb, Ni, As, Cd are characteristic of all functional zones. This study presented the possible sources of priority pollutants. The greatest technogenic impact was observed in the area of transport infrastructure development. Upon that, recreational and residential functional zones also experience significant anthropogenic impact. In order to create a comfortable and healthy urban environment it is necessary to implement the measures to restore these areas.

Opis:
The sewage sludge originating from wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) serving rural areas is suggested for agricultural or natural usage. However, sewage sludge is beforehand subjected to the several pre-treatments, which involve stabilization, hygienisation and pre-composting. These methods mainly decrease the amount of organic substances and the presence of microorganisms, but hardly affect the concentrations of heavy metals. The advantages of using sludges as fertilizer for improving and sustaining soil fertility and crop production are numerous. The addition of sewage sludge to soils could affect the potential availability of heavy metals. Trace elements are distributed in the soil in various forms: solid phases, free ions in soil solution, soluble organic-mineral complexes, or adsorbed on colloidal particles. The most undesirable heavy metals in sewage sludge that are toxic for the living organisms include: cadmium, chromium, nickel, lead and mercury. In the study, the concentrations of trace elements (Pb, Cd, Cr, Hg, Ni, Zn, Al, As, Se, B, Ba, Br, Ca, Cu, Fe, Mn, Na, Ga, Li, Mo, Sr, Mg, K, Ru, Tl, V, U) were tested in the sewage sludge obtained from a WWTP serving rural areas (PE< 9 000). In each case, the tested sewage sludge was meeting the criteria of stabilization and was used for agriculture and land reclamation purpose. All the samples were collected in 2016 and subjected to microwave mineralization in a closed system in aqua regia. The total amounts of macro and microelements were determined with a spectrophotometer Coupled Plasma emission ICP-OES. It was found that the total concentrations of trace metals in all of sewage sludges are the same as the Polish regulation limit of pollutants for sludge to be used in agriculture. European legislation is less restrictive and permits higher contents of heavy metals in sludge used for agriculture than Asia. The trace elements (cadmium: 1.16 mg·kg-1/d.m. in thePolish sewage sludge, are much higher than those in the other countries. Copper and zinc were the most prevalent elements observed (111.28 mg·kg-1/d.m. and 282.94 mg·kg-1/d.m., respectively). The concentrations of copper in the Polish sewage sludge are much lower (49–130 mg·kg-1/d.m.) than european sewage sludge (522–562 mg·kg-1/d.m.). The two of the tested heavy metals (beryllium, bismuth) were under the detection limit, while gallium, molybdenum, thallium, vanadium and silver were detected in the concentrations lower than 0.005 mg·kg-1/d.m. According to the obtained results, in all the tested samples, the total amount of trace elements, did not exceed the limit values in sewage sludge for their use in agriculture and land reclamation.

Opis:
The recent deterioration of the ecological condition of agricultural lands, the tendency of reducing soil fertility, and the production of plant products, mostly of low quality, necessitate an understanding of the role of trace elements in the process of plant formation. The content of trace elements in soils affects the efficiency of absorption of basic nutrients by plants. Deficiency of iron, manganese and zinc reduces the supply of nitrogen to plants. Copper and calcium promote the absorption of phosphorus by plants, but excess of iron inhibits it. Excess of copper and molybdenum reduces the transfer of potassium to plants. Due to high yields of agricultural crops, a significant amount of trace elements is removed from the soil, so the introduction of the optimal amount of trace elements against the background of high agricultural technology is an additional measure to increase the yields and quality of agricultural products. Heavy metals are an important environmental factor, which, on the one hand, is necessary for living organisms, and on the other (with increasing concentration of these elements in the environment) constitutes a negative factor in their lives. The activities of industrial enterprises, car exhausts and other attributes of civilization, increase the content of heavy metals in soils and as a consequence negatively affect their quality. The term “heavy metals” is used for the metals with a specific gravity exceeding 5 g/cm3 or an atomic number of more than 20. Among them, lead and cadmium are considered the most dangerous. Therefore, modeling the content of trace elements and heavy metals in the Steppe soils of Ukraine is an additional mechanism for quality control of agricultural land and, as a consequence, of obtaining quality products to ensure food security of the state.

In order to evaluate the degree of sediment contamination by metallic trace elements in the watershed of Oued Inaouene (North-East of Morocco), samples of surface sediments were taken along the river and at the level of the Idriss 1st dam. The objective was to obtain thorough knowledge of the environment (metallic element content, organic matter content, granulometry, and pH, EC, CaCO3 content) in order to identify the degree of pollution in these sediments. The results of analysis have highlighted a contamination accentuated by Ba, Sr, P, Cu, Pb, In fact, this element is present at very high levels, with a maximum content ppm for the samples taken upstream of Oued Inaouene. This increase is related to the physicochemical conditions of the environment, despite the diversity of sources of pollutants. The analysis of hazardous heavy metals showed the values under the detection limits. The qualitative study allowed to identifying the source of contamination, it is an anthropogenic source related to the discharges of cities in vicinity of Oued Inaouene, and natural considered as the main source of pollution by trace elements of sediments that constitute an important reserve of pollutants in the environment.

Opis:
Over a long period of time, a huge amount of technogenic bottom sediments has been accumulating in the Kosva Bay with significant concentrations of amorphous iron and aluminium hydroxides, which, in turn, are active sorbents of pollutants. This study examines the distribution of trace elements and rare earth elements and their toxicity in the Kosva Bay of the Kama Reservoir (Perm Region, Russia). In the middle reach, the Kosva River crosses the Kizel coal basin, where acid mine water is discharged from closed mines. The average content of trace elements in the samples of bottom sediments of the bay varies from 0.10 mg/kg (Se) to 176.36 mg/kg (Ba). The amount of rare earth elements varies from 66.8 to 83.6 mg/kg. The ecological significance of trace elements and rare earth elements was studied using an element-by-element assessment (EF and Igeo), Potential Ecological Risk Index (RI), Mean Probable Effect Concentration Quotient (PECQ), and two bioassays (Daphnia magna Straus and Scenedesmus quadricauda (Turp.) Breb. The highest Hg enrichment was found at two sampling points. Taking into account the average value of Igeo, the pollution by Co, V, Nb, Hg, Sn, Zn, Sm, Ni, Cr, and Gd is the highest and corresponds to extremely contaminated category. The RI values indicate that pollution categories vary from moderate risk to considerable risk. According to mean PECQ values, bottom sediments of the bay have moderate potential toxicity towards biological communities. Results of chronic and acute toxicity on test objects D. magna and Scenedesmus quadricauda Breb show the water extract from bottom sediments having no effects on the test objects. The results of the study show that in order to assess the quality of bottom sediments, an integrated approach, combining chemical and ecotoxicological analyses, is needed.

The precise determination of trace element concentrations in the soil of the Al-Qadisiyah Governorate is part of the Iraqi sedimentary plain is required to eliminate high levels of harmful elements in polluted soils. The soil samples were collected from 28 representative profiles in Al-Shamiyah city. The soil profiles were defined using virtual characterization. In this study, I-geo was used to analyze soil pollution. The goals and destinations of the I-geo readings Contamination of Cd, Ni, Pb, and Zn in various soil strata. I-geo (Cd) generally range from 0.58 to 4.71, I-geo (Ni) range from 0.09 to 4.07, I-geo (Pb) ranged range from 0.07 to 2.79, and I-geo (Zn) ranges from zero to 2.79, depicting the local differences in I-geo for pollutants in the research area. Suggesting that the research area had been heavily polluted from Cd in the varied layers of the soils. On the maps pertaining to Zn and Pb, the majority of the research area was primarily covered in the orange and blue hues, suggesting that a significant portion of the research area was likely to be severely polluted from Cd and Ni. Moreover, the land cover layouts of Ni in layers of the soils revealed concentrations rising towards to the western sections, which could be attributed to proximity to a major drain. The results display that its I-geo value of four trace metals generally range from non-pollute to significantly heavily polluted. The I-geo data show significant differences in levels of the Ni, Cd, Zn, and Pb in different soils strata. Including these findings, the soil in Al-Shamiya, Al-Qadisiyah Governorate contains high levels of Cd, Ni, Pb, and Zn. Industries of fossil fuel combustion, as well as other man-made wastes include agricultural nutrients, soil conditioners, and sludge, particularly, ammonium phosphate pollution in soils. The pollutant load index (PLI) reveals a baseline level of contamination in 28 locations, as well as a decline in soil quality in four others. Finally, assessing the danger of contamination for trace metals utilizing the I-geo and PLI by using the GIS method and multimodal models is a helpful and relevant strategy.

The investigation within the framework of this study was carried out on three marine species fished off in Moroccan coasts, namely: a fish, the sole (Solea Vulgaris), a cephalopod, the cuttlefish (Sepia Officinalis) and a crustacean, the pink shrimp (Parapenaeus Longirostris). The aims of this study were assessing the level of concentration in these three marine species, of three metallic trace elements: lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd) and mercury (Hg) and giving a reflection on the way in which Moroccan deep-sea fishing professionals can join a food safety management system to ensure the safety of their product and promote their competitiveness. Sampling was carried out at the port of Agadir city after landing of the deep-sea fishing boats which operate beyond 10 nautical miles, offshoring the seabed of Agadir for pink shrimp (Parapenaeus Longirostris), and in Dakhla city offshore for sole (Solea Vulgaris) and cuttlefish (Sepia Officinalis). Trace metal analysis was performed on individual muscles belonging to the three species. The results of the conducted investigations show that the Pb content varies between 0.01 ppm and 0.27 ppm in Solea Vulgaris; between 0.015 ppm and 0.16 ppm in Sepia Officinalis and between 0.022 ppm and 0.38 ppm for Parapenaeus Longirostris. For Cd, the concentrations vary between 0.0047 ppm and 0.050 ppm in Solea Vulgaris; between 0.0025 ppm and 0.254 ppm in Sepia Officinalis and between 0.0065 ppm and 0.11 ppm in Parapenaeus Longirostris. Concerning Hg, the contents vary between 0.0006 ppm and 0.075 ppm in Solea Vulgaris; between 0.0008 ppm and 0.05 ppm in Sepia Officinalis and between 0.0016 ppm and 0.09 ppm in Parapenaeus Longirostris. It appears from this study that the metal contents detected at the level of the three species of seafood investigated are below the regulatory thresholds. These results can be considered as the first basis for validating the control measure linked to the absence of metallic contamination of the three species in the sites studied.

Use the resources and structure of the soil has been studied in Podkarpackie province in the years 1946-2005, divided into three periods of time due to administrative changes in the country and the region (I: 1946-1970, II: 1975-1995, III: 2000-2005). The three time periods studied decreased share of agricultural land and arable land in the general area of the province. In the years 2000-2005 has increased significantly the share of forests and other lands, at the expense of the exclusion of the arable lands and grasslands in agricultural production, which turned into fallow and uncultivated land. The farms 32.7% of arable lands was excluded from the cultivation and has evolved into a fallow and uncultivated land. The holdings of the public sector, this situation was even more unfavorable as it was, and took 86.1% of arable lands for fallow and outfield. During the study period, the structure of individual crops sown undergone substantial changes in the direction of simplification cereal monoculture. The soils of Podkarpackie province are acidic and urgently require liming treatment. Unfavorably was presented a richness soils of available forms macronutrients (P and K) in Podkarpackie province, especially in available phosphorus, which was the result of limitations of organic fertilization and low consumption of mineral fertilizers. Over 90% of agricultural soils of Podkarpackie province exhibits natural content of metals (Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn). The aim of the study was to analyze the structure of the Earth's land use and soils, taking into account the structure of crops and some elements of soil fertility and degradation in the context of a slowdown adverse changes.
