Opis:
Creating the buffer zones is a function intended to designate an area in particular, of a constant distance around the spatial objects. The aim of the study was to create maps as thematic layers, which served to identify areas of existing and potential contamination of surface water and other environmental elements. Among others, it made possible to localize the areas potentially affected by the surface water pollution due to transport; localize the areas potentially affected by the surface water pollution due to the discharge of sewage from human settlements; localize the zones with mitigated impact of communication emissions due to the natural protection of forests taking the form of so-called geochemical barriers. The spatial analyzes allowed to generate model-zones of the existing and potential threat of water pollution in the Narew river catchment. Designated danger zones can be verified by studies as well as they can be very helpful in determining the monitoring network and for water quality modeling process.

Air pollution regards all chains of environmental prospective. As an actualized and future issue we concentrate our efforts to set a frame on major air pollutants and their relation. The period of study rely on 15 year time interval (2012-2016) and the geographical area is focused on data retrieved from the capital, Tirana. We canalize our investigation mainly on inhalable particle and their behavior toward other particles. The goal is to establish $PM_{10}$ (Particulate Matter with a diameter < 10 μm) trend based on significant associations. We develop the analytical process due to air pollution numbers which turn to be of considerable concern in the country. $PM_{10}$ and Total Suspended Particulate Matter (TSPM) have different diameter but reflect the same trend line. They show strong positive correlation value with $O_3$ and $SO_2$ (r > 0.75). $NO_2$ particles seem to be less (r < 0.25) involved in this interaction. AQI (Air Quality Index) is fully depended (r > 0.92) on $PM_{10}$ behavior. We test also socioeconomic and meteorological parameters that produce interesting results. IDW (Inverse Distance Weight) interpolation maps resume the geographical dispersion of $PM_{10}$ values. The reductive emission index retrieved from Euro standard transition for vehicle fleet develops a new situation. We generate potentially future values of $PM_{10}$ emission. Predictive scenario is created, interpolation maps are the backbone of this methodology.

Determining the soil water content (SWC) in a soil profile is very important task for agriculture and also for a wider ecological context. The spatial and temporal variability of SWC is a elementary issue for agricultural practice, irrigation management, or landscape management globally. Various methods are used for obtaining the SWC data. Every method has some advantages and also disadvantages. Many of them are focused only on one dimension but modern precise agriculture needs the information about SWC in spatial scale. This study is focused on the spatial scale analysis of SWC in the Nitra river catchment for years 2013 and 2014. The HYDRUS 1D hydrological model and GIS tools were used for the creation maps of SWC. Combination of the measured and simulated data was used for the creation of the unique spatial maps of soil moisture in 0–30 and 30–60 cm soil horizons. Validation of our method shows trustworthy results. Soil water storage and fulfillment of maximum soil water storage were analysed with using the created maps.

Opis:
The purpose of the study was to present the principles of creating and implementing an integrated water and wastewater management system based on hydrodynamic modeling of water distribution and sewage disposal systems in small and medium-sized municipal enterprises. The computer modeling of water and sewerage networks is an efficient tool for finding the causes of increased costs of operation of these plants. The simulations carried out in modeling programs enable to quickly find the optimal variant to solve the problem of exploitation or economically effective direction of their modernization. Geospatial data (GIS) is being increasingly often being used to optimally manage the municipial water and sewage infrastructure. This gives an additional analytical tool for planning, designing, obtaining operational data, etc. The integration of hydraulic models of the water supply and living and economic networks into one coherent management system is possible, owing to which, a holistic assessment of the functioning of the water and sewage management system in the city is possible. The decision support systems based on the spatial information system (GIS) associated with various specialized software, are becoming the standard of modern management of a water and sewage company. To date, only about 40% of enterprises in this industry in Poland have used systems of this type. In addition, most of the GIS-based management systems used in practice are limited to an inventory of existing network resources and integration of many databases in one coherent IT system. Only in a few cases, the systems of this type contain modules modeling the network operation under dynamic conditions, which results primarily from the additional implementation costs related to the construction of sufficiently reliable models of the water supply and / or sewerage network. Implementation of the proposed solution includes: construction of a water supply network simulation system, construction of a domestic and economic sewage system simulation system, devising scenarios for system operation under the conditions of city development and climate change, multi-criteria assessment of the economic effectiveness of systems operation taking into account social and environmental criteria, development of an integrated management system the system, taking into account the guidelines for increasing the effectiveness of its operation and work safety.

Opis:
Along with sea-level rise, one of the most detrimental effects of climate change, is salinity leakage, which significantly affects agricultural activities throughout most of the world. This occurrence is becoming increasingly dangerous. The purpose of this study was to use Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to assess the current situation of agricultural lands in the province of Al-Diwaniyah, by employing GIS to document the salt-affected sites and arrive at the most important criteria affecting those lands as well as build an application model for suitability to clarify the affected sites and come up with paper and digital maps. To accomplish this, the study relied on the available data by extrapolating and analyzing remote sensing images using salt equations to analyze the Landsat 8 satellite images, after which these data were subjected to spatial statistical treatment in ArcGIS software. Moreover, 20 samples were taken from ground sampling points and subjected to laboratory analysis to compare and document the results. The research resulted in the creation of an up-to-date database for the locations of salt ratio growth or decrease in the province of Al-Diwaniyah, which can be relied on, starting from and expanding in the future. Land maps, both paper and digital, have been created and can be used and inferred. The findings demonstrated the model’s ability to steadily discriminate among all salinity groups while maintaining consistency with the ground truth data. Each of the four major salinity categories was highlighted. The best-performing indicators were used to build the MLR model, which was then used to anticipate soil salinity. The salt levels may be determined by the MLR combining NDVI and SI-5 with a high correlation value (R2 = 75.29%). Finally, it is shown that by combining spectral indicators with field measurements, it is possible to chart and forecast soil salinity on a large scale.

This study aimed to understand the new management challenges related to the impact of climate change on biodiversity, deterioration of agricultural productivity, food security, and increasing rates of desertification. This constitutes an important indicator for studying Land Degradation Neutrality (SDGs Target 15.3), which is considered a significant target in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals 2030. The present study is concerned with assessing and monitoring land management and land degradation in Wadi El Farigh from 2000 to 2019. Soil quality is a major part of the chain that leads to understanding sustainable land management of natural resources (land, groundwater, and natural vegetation). A geopedological approach produced the studied area’s physiographic and soil map. The study of changes in land degradation level in Wadi El Farigh over 20 years with a period of every five years shows a very high improvement in the study area from the year 2000 up to 2014. From 2015 to 2019, this class was reduced due to the effects of land degradation reflected by the use of saline water for irrigating crops. Using remote sensing and geostatistical analyses within the GIS environment illustrated that the soils were classified as Entisols, representing 79.45 of the total studied area, and Aridisols representing 20.55% of the total studied area.

Opis:
Over the years, Cameron Highlands have witnessed extensive land-use and land-cover (LULC) changes due to the massive agricultural and urbanization activities. This significantly contributed to the erosion problems in the area. Rainfall erosivity that measures the aggressiveness of raindrop in triggering soil erosion is one of its major components that could be influenced by the LULC changes in watersheds. However, the research relating to the LULC changes with the erosivity especially in the complex landscape is scarce. Hence, this study applies geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing techniques to assess the LULC changes and their influence on the rainfall erosivity distribution in mountainous watershed of Cameron Highlands. Four Landsat images and the rainfall data from the period of thirty years were analysed for the development of LULC and erosivity maps respectively in ArcGIS environment. The study showed that the study area experienced immense land-use changes especially in agriculture and urbanization which affected the erosivity distribution. The LULC change for agriculture increased linearly in the last 30 years from 7.9% in 1986 to almost 16.4% in 2016. The results showed that urban development increased from 5.1% in 1986 to 11.4% in 2016. The increasing urbanization trend was targeted to meet up with tourism requirement in Cameron Highlands. However, forest class declined tremendously due to the exploration of land for agriculture practice and other various types of development. Watershed managers and other stakeholders should find this study beneficial in tackling erosion and its associated ecological challenges.

ArcGIS został wykorzystany powtórnie podczas opracowywania wyników i posłużył do wygenerowania nowych rzędnych dna w stanie początkowym i końcowym. Różnica między nimi zobrazowała wielkość zachodzącej erozji i akumulacji. Proces erozji zaszedł w 13 przekrojach na analizowanym odcinku (średnia różnica rzędnych ujemna), natomiast akumulację zaobserwowano w 53 przekrojach. Maksymalna wartość spłycenia dna wyniosła 1,24 m w przekroju w km 18+868, natomiast największe pogłębienie wystąpiło w km 8+654 i wyniosło – 0,76 m. Wszystkie wartości ponownie zostały naniesione na mapę topograficzną dla lepszego zobrazowania uzyskanych wyników.
The aim of this study was to perform a simulation of sediment transport for the section of the river Ner, while also utilizing GIS tools. Using the ArcGIS numerical model of channel and stream valleys were developed, and motion simulations and sediment transport set for 5 ten-year periods were performed in HEC-RAS. Updated geometries after the simulations were created using the tools of RAS Mapper. ArcGIS was used again for analysing the results. It was used to generate ordinates of bottom in the initial state and final. The difference between them illustrated the magnitude of erosion and accumulation. The process of erosion occurred in 13 sections of the analysed model (the standard differential ordinates negative), while the accumulation in 53 sections. The maximum value of shallowing bottom was 1.24 m (cross-section at km 18 + 868), while the largest deepening occurred at km 8 + 654 (– 0.76 m). All values, using ArcGIS, were marked on othophotomap.

Ocenę ryzyka wystąpienia erozji wodnej powierzchniowej w zlewni Potoku Mątny o powierzchni 1,47 km2, położonej w Gorcach przeprowadzono metodą Masoudi’ego i Pathwardhan’a. Parametry do modelu zostały w pełni zidentyfikowane w oparciu o metody i bazy danych wchodzących w zakres szeroko rozumianych technik GIS. W analizowanej zlewni wartości prawdopodobieństwa wystąpienia erozji na ponad połowie badanego obszaru wyniosły poniżej 50%. Zastosowana metoda określania ryzyka erozji może stanowić szczegółowe uzupełnienie dotychczas szeroko stosowanej metody określenia erozji potencjalnej wg Józefaciuków.
Evaluation of surface erosion risk according to be Masoudi and Pathwardhan method was carried out in the Mątny stream basin of area 1.47 km2, located in the Gorce Mountains. The method is based on nine parameters (soil erodibility factor, soil depth, slopes, rainfall intensity, yearly rainfall, ratio of uncovered soil, ratio of plant cover, state of water erosion, geological background), which were grouped in five classes, regarding boundary values, and then depending upon possibility of erosion occurrence in future. A model allows to determine areas maps presenting percentage risk of water erosion. Parameters for the model were fully identified based on methods and databases covering GIS techniques. In the analyzed basin on more than half of the area were below 50%. The used method of erosion risk evaluation may be supplementary for the known very well method elaborated by the Józefaciuk.

On the basis of real data we propose a solution to the problem of how to calculate the average area per one hydrological station, which is the main indicator of the efficiency and performance of the monitoring system in general. We conclude that a comprehensive approach to the monitoring system organization is important, because only hydrometric and hydrochemical activities coordinated in time provide possibilities needed to analyse the underline causes of the observed pollutants content dynamics in water bodies in the long term.

Since the 19th century, the irrigation industry on the territory of the Czech Republic has undergone considerable technological development and an increase in irrigated areas. Irrigation has become an important part of the Czech landscape. Large complex irrigation systems of tens to hundreds of km2 have been built. Towards the end of the 20th century, there was a significant decline due to the change of political regime, abolition of agricultural companies, etc. Irrigation systems and buildings were often destroyed, devastated, left without maintenance. There have also been several changes in the administrative management of the irrigation sector. The consequence was that there was no single database of irrigation systems. At present, a database of these irrigation systems is being compiled by the Research Institute for Soil and Water Conservation using geographical information systems (GIS). In connection with climate change, the threat of drought, and irregular distribution of precipitation during the growing season, and the issue of irrigation are back on trend. In this study the current state of irrigation systems in the Czech Republic was presented. In the Czech Republic, a total of 175115 ha of irrigation area has been recorded so far (of this area, about 41% is currently in functional). Selected historic irrigation structures were documented by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).

Since the appearance on Earth, human has been constantly operating in nature, exploiting its riches, but also adapting it to its own needs. Both developing and developed countries are constantly concerned about the urbanization process. Urbanization, in order to be positive, must be developed correctly. If such a thing does not happen, then this development will negatively affect both the environment and human health. In order to develop adequate strategies and policies for the most sustainable and effective land use management, it is necessary to quantify, monitor, determine the factors that have influenced this change in land use and the spread mapping of the urban environment. In this study, Landsat satellite images were used to determine the spatial-temporal characteristics of the urban sprawl environment in the Municipality of Prishtina for a period of 20 years (2000-2020). To map the land cover for Prishtina from 2000 to 2020, the Supervised maximum likelihood classification was used using the Landsat ETM + and OLI data archives in ArcGIS 10.5 software. Using landscape metrics and detection techniques after the classification of satellite images, enabled and assisted in the evaluation and analysis of trends and patterns of urban sprawl. The determination of the changes and the analysis made revealed that during the period 2000-2020, in Prishtina, there was an increase of the built areas by 16.46 km2 at the expense of the unbuilt areas. That there has been an increase in urban areas was also confirmed by the results of landscape metrics.
