Opis:
In this study, the results of fish composition, distribution and abundance are presented according to the effects of water physicochemical parameters from the Livoq Lake in the eastern part of Kosovo. The fish specimens were sampled in six sampling stations in 2018 by using a variety of methods, including electro-fishing devices, fishing rod and cast nets. The measured physicochemical parameters included: water temperature, dissolved oxygen, saturation of dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity, total dissolved solids. In total, 320 fish specimens were collected, belonging to 10 species of the following 5 families: Cyprinidae, Silurideae, Esocideae, Percideae and Centrarhideae. The most species rich family is Cyprinidae with 6 species in total: Cyprinus caprio Linnaeus, 1758, Rutilus rutilus Linnaeus, 1758, Carassius carassius Linnaeus, 1758, Squalius cephalus Linnaeus, 1758, Leucaspius delineatus Linnaeeus, 1758 and Alburnus alburnus Linnaeus, 1758. Four other families are represented by one species each: Silurideae with Siluris glanis Linnaeus, 1758, Esocidea with Esox lucius Linnaeus, 1758, Percideae with Perca fluviatilis Linnaeus, 1758 and Centrarhideae with Lepomis gibosus Linnaeus, 1758. The knowledge on fish fauna in Kosovo is still very fragmentary, and this investigation contributes to determining the qualitative composition and abundance features based on the water physicochemical parameters in this part of the Balkan Peninsula.

Opis:
The studies were conducted in the summers of 2017 and 2018 on three watercourses in Central and North-Western Poland, the where maintenance works involving disposal of sediment and silt were performed in the autumn of 2017. Monitoring of the ichthyofauna in the Rurzyca River and the Tywa River before (year 2017) and after the maintenance works (year 2018) indicated a decrease in the number of species. Altogether, 23 fish species were caught in all the watercourses. Out of these, 12 species were not recorded after the studied rivers had been dredged. A slight decrease in the number of fish species was observed in each studied river after the maintenance works. The values of physicochemical parameters obtained for each watercourse indicate a low quality of the waters. After silt had been removed from the watercourses, lower N-NO3values were observed at most research sites, whereas the N-NH4+ values increased significantly (except for one site on the Kanał Habdziński). Additionally, high volumes of P-PO43-were observed (except for sites 2 and 3 on the Kanał Habdziński and site 2 on the Rurzyca River). Maintenance works performed on small watercourses have a negative impact on the quality of waters and a less significant impact on the number of fish and biodiversity. This appears to be connected with migration of fish in the river during the maintenance works and avoidance of the consequent unfavourable conditions to gradually return to their habitats afterwards.

The work presents changes of oxygen indices in carp ponds during the summer season. The basis of the research were regular water tests conducted in two ponds: Mydlniki II intended for carp farming in the second year of fish production cycle and Bocian used for carp farming in the third (final) year of breeding. The temperature of pond water in July and August was optimal for development and farming of cyprinid fish and ranged from 16.6 to 30.5 °C. The lowest value of oxygen dissolved in water (6.4 mg·dm sup>-3) was registered in Mydlniki II pond and was higher than the oxygen optimum for carp (5 mg·dm sup>-3). Oxygen saturation in water of fish ponds exceeded the optimum upper limit value (168%) on a few dates, however, it posed no lethal threat for fish. In August in Bocian pond oxygen saturation fell within the range of optimal values, creating better conditions for fish development. In the secondary pond (Mydlniki II) it was found that oxygen saturation in water on 12 dates was lower than the low optimal value (96%).

This study aims to optimize the removal of total suspended solids (TSS) in pump water from fish flour factories through electrocoagulation technology and to determine the effects of the main operation parameters. Pump water has high conductivity (40.1 mS), due to the presence of dissolved salts and contains high concentration of organic substances (12,360 mg/L of TSS and 520 mg/L of fats). In this study, pump water was treated in an electrocoagulation reactor with aluminum electrodes using Response Surface Methodology with a 3k factorial design based on two factors, current intensity (I) of 8-13 A and treatment time (t) of 20-40 minutes. The percentage of TSS removed from the water was used as the response variable. The results revealed that I and t significantly (p < 0.05) influenced the process. In accordance, the optimal operational parameters for TSS removal were I = 13 A and t = 30 minutes. Using these conditions, TSS removal efficiency of 99.9% was achieved. The sewage sludge generated with these optimal process conditions indicated 19.3% of ash content, 6.2% of salt, 1.7% of aluminum, 0.3% of iron, 0.4% of potassium, 256 ppm of zinc, and 2.1% of phosphorus. Hence, the results of this study affirm that electrocoagulation can be considered as a solution for marine pollution caused by fishing industries.

The young coal mining pits (young pits) found in West Aceh cause many problems. These pits that form ponds have the potential to be utilized for aquaculture activities. However, the main problem faced in the young pits is the high content of heavy metals. This makes the ponds dangerous for fish farming. Hazardous heavy metals in coal mines are Pb and Fe. Humic acid is one of the materials that can be used to minimize heavy metals and increase water pH. The use of humic acid is more efficient because this technology is easy and cheap and the raw materials are abundant. Humic acid acts as a substance of cation exchange ability found in compost. This research has a long-term goal of making humic acid contained in compost as an alternative material that can minimize heavy metals Pb and Fe, so that it can be used for fish farming activities. The specific objective is to determine the best capacity (dose of humic acid) in minimizing heavy metals and increasing the pH of young pond water in former mines and its effect on fish farming. This research method used a completely randomized design consisting of one factor, namely the dose of humic acid (0 g/L, 2.5 g/L, 5 g/L, 7.5 g/L) and three replications. The results showed that humic acid was able to minimize the content of heavy metals Pb and Fe in coal mine water with the best dose of 5 g/L. The percentage reduction produced was more than 90%. The results of fish rearing using ex-mining pond water treated with humic acid showed that the survival rate and growth rate of fish were higher.

One of more important elements affecting the efficiency of fish passes is a 3D spatial structure of the flow and the flow velocity. The paper presents an analysis pertaining to the deformations of these elements caused by the modification of the fishway’s partition geometry. It has a crucial meaning for the ability of fish to migrate through the fish pass. The research has a key practical significance as it proves the way the apparent modification of the partition geometry affects the hydraulic conditions within the entire the channel of the fishway. It may have very serious consequences for the design assumptions. The presented results of the experimental research were obtained as a consequence of the site and laboratory tests carried outusing a physical model. The measurements were performedfor 3 components of flow’s instantaneous speed within the indicated measurement sections. The results were developed using Matlab software. It was established that the number of whirls produced in the fishway’s pool depends on the quantity of spillway slots and – what seems to have the greatest impact on the flow structure – on the location of slots. The size of whirls is determined by the geometry of spillway slots. The presence of additional spillway slots in the pool, except for the huge main migration slot, contributes to the generation of more whirl structures within the recirculation zone. The more whirls produced in each of the whirl zones, the smaller their diameter. Thisshould create more favourable conditions for the fish migration.

Opis:
One of the factors that contributed to the construction of approx.77 km2 offish ponds in the catchment of Barycz starting from the 13th century, which in turn transformed the woods into a mosaic of waters, forests and arable land, were the advantageous physiographic conditions. Fish farming operations conducted in this area led to the creation of a cultural landscape characterised by unique natural values, similar to the natural landscape. Approx. 240 species of birds are observed here, of which 170 are nesting species. Due to its natural values, this area has been subject to natural reserve protection as part of the Landscape Park “Dolina Baryczy” (the Barycz Valley). It was entered in the “Living Lakes” list and it is protected under the Ramsar Convention as well as under the European nature protection network Natura 2000. The established forms of nature protection mean the introduction of a certain binding regime, pursuant to which the economic activity conducted in protected areas must take into account the prohibitions and orders introduced by documents that establish the said forms of protection. Additionally, there is a legal requirement to create a protection plan or conservation plan that constitutes a basis for the realisation of conservation-related objectives. A commercial company Stawy Milickie S.A. (public limited company) operates in the area of this largest fish pond complex in Poland. The scope of its operations includes more than just the breeding and sale of freshwater fish (6500 ha of ponds) but also environmental protection, environmental education and the development of tourism as well as stimulating the development and professional activation of local communities basing on the natural resources that exist in the catchment of Barycz. This study presents the conditions related to fish farming operations conducted in this area. Conducting an extensive management (i.e. often uneconomical from the economic point of view) is a prerequisite for maintaining the biodiversity of this naturally valuable area. The conservation plan of the nature reserve “Stawy Milickie” (Milicz Ponds) contains a series of obligations and limitations with respect to fish farming. The development strategy of the Stawy Milickie SA Company takes into account all these conditions.

Due to the high nutrient and organic matter contents of fish pond water, the water must be treated before disposal to prevent the eutrophication and deterioration of natural receiving waters. Floating wetlands (FTWs) and biofilters are environmentally friendly ecological treatments that can be used for this water. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the performance of FTWs with biofilters (FTW/Bs) for nutrient and organic compound removal. Two FTW/ Bs were applied in a pond with 5,000 Nile tilapia. The macrophyte species in the FTWs were Cyperus (Cyperus spp.) and Heliconia (Heliconia spp.). The buoyant mats of the FTWs were made from bamboo, and 200 bioballs were loaded below the mats. The water quality parameters in the pond were monitored for 5 weeks between the control test without the FTW/Bs and the experimental test with FTW/Bs at sites 1 (S1) to 8 (S8). The FTW/Bs were located at sites 2 (S2) and 3 (S3). The results showed reductions in all water quality parameters except orthophosphate (ortho-P) at S2 and S3. The COD, BOD, NH4-N, and SS at S2 and S3 parameters during the experimental test were significantly lower than those during the control test, in the ranges of 20.34–33.96, 25.47–29.41, 25.86–27.87, and 26.00–28.44%, respectively.

The investigated fish pass is a part of а low-head hydrostatic pressure machine (HPM) located on an existing weir in the upper Iskar River. Monitoring of the hydraulic features of the fish pass was performed under different hydraulic conditions. Diversity and abundance of the local fish fauna was investigated with the aim to verify target fish species. A major limiting factor for using of the fish pass during flood periods was high water velocity (both inside the fish pass and at the fish pass downstream entrance), while during the low water discharge periods it was the insufficient water depth in some pools and the significant differences between the water levels in adjacent pools. The difference between the water levels at the entrance and exit of the fish pass reduces the chances for access of small-sized fish species. Some measures for improving fish pass functionality were developed. Several re-construction solutions were proposed in an attempt to help solving the identified problems.

Surface sediment quality of potential rivers in Peru was evaluated using indicators of contamination, accumulation and ecological risk of heavy metals and As. Surface sediment samples were collected at 54 sampling sites in the Tishgo and Chia rivers during 2018. The determination of Cu, Pb, Zn and As was performed by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The results revealed the decreasing order of the mean concentrations of heavy metals and As in the Chia River of Zn > Cu > As > Pb and Tishgo of Zn > Pb > As > Cu. The PLI for the Tishgo River were greater than one (PLI > 1) denoting the deterioration it has been experiencing. In the Chia River, 60% of the sampling sites indicated no appreciable contamination by these elements (PLI < 1). The Igeo values of As in both rivers showed a state of contamination, from moderately to severely contaminated. In the Tishgo River the potential ecological risk varied from low to moderate and in the Chia River from low to considerable. Finally, this study reveals the applicability of the evaluation indexes of contamination, accumulation and potential ecological risk of toxic metals so that special control measures can be adopted.

The contents of Ni, Zn, Cr, Cu and Cd were deter-mined in an air-acetylene flame using the flame atomic absorption spectrophotometric method. The average crop yield of the overground parts of maize in the series without additional mineral fertilization and with mineral N-fertilization was higher compared to objects without mineral N-fertilization. The highest crop yield was noted in the case of compost containing fish waste and straw with addition of lignite and with bark and lignite. The addition of lignite to the compost mass in the series with mineral N fertilization had stronger influence on the content of cadmium, chromium, nickel and zinc in the overground parts of maize.

The pollution of rivers from human activities such as housing, markets, workshops, transportation, land cultivation, and industry has become an issue. The increasing contribution of heavy metals to pollution in rivers has a direct effect on the metal bioaccumulation in fish. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the concentrations of Cd, Cu, and Pb in the waters, sediment, and fish harvested from the Krueng Sabee River, Aceh Province, Indonesia. Furthermore, the water, sediment, and fish samples were collected from six locations representing the upstream and downstream regions of the river. Cd, Cu, and Pb were analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). The results showed that Cd, Cu, and Pb were not detected in the water, while the concentration of Cd in the sediments ranges between 0.0544 to 0.2683 mg kg-1, Cu ranges between 4.4149 to 14.8160 mg kg-1, and Pb ranges between 0.9186–15.4954 mg kg-1. Therefore, Cd, Cu, and Pb in the water and sediment were below the quality standard, but these heavy metals in the fish sample met the threshold limit. The highest Cd concentration was reported in Tor soro (5.5591 mg kg-1), and the highest concentration of Cu was reported in Mugil cephalus (6.7021 mg kg-1), while the higher Pb concentration was reported in Cyclocheilichthys Apogon (0.0279 mg kg-1).

The aim of the article is to analyse hydraulic conditions of water flow in a fish pass. The test facility is part of the Pomiłowo barrage in the commune of Sławno, Poland. The authors applied HEC-RAS software for modelling hydraulic parameters of the water flow in the fish pass. The data from field measurements was implemented in the software and calculations of changes in the water table in the fish pass were made. The results confirmed the usefulness of HEC-RAS software for estimating hydraulic parameters of water flow in a fish pass.
